[Bug 1070701] Re: Volume slider set to minimum each time Rhythmbox starts, no matter what it was at before closing
I think this is a case of misleading UI layout. The horizontal slider in the top-right corner isn't a volume control but a position-in-track control. Yes, fixing CRW would be best, as I also get a blank preview image (which this patch can't help). I'll see if I can figure out what's going on. [Bug 1069206] [NEW] Shotwell search results are slow
Public bug reported: On 64-bit 12.10 (quantal) with unity-lens-photos 0.8-0ubuntu1. [Bug 1069225] [NEW] Shotwell thumbnails not shown for raw photos in results
Public bug reported: On 64-bit 12.10 (quantal) with unity-lens-photos 0.8-0ubuntu1. For search results that include raw photos (.CRW files in my case) the thumbnails are blank. The update_search_results() method looks for files in the thumbnails folder that have the same extension as the source file. However, at least for my files, Shotwell's thumbnails are .jpg and so aren't seen. A basic patch to fix my situation, attached, simply also checks for .jpg thumbnails (so it checks thumb1234.jpg after failing to find thumb1234.crw). [Bug 927218] Re: Unable to unset setguid bit
Thanks for taking the time to report this. The behaviour you describe may seem surprising (and it was to me, too!), but is actually what the man page describes: chmod preserves a directory's set-user-ID and set-group-ID bits unless you explicitly specify otherwise. You can set or clear the bits with symbolic modes like u+s and g-s, and you can set (but not clear) the bits with a numeric mode. So, you can clear the setgid bit on the directory in your example with chmod g-s Y, but not with chmod 0775 Y. Since this is the defined behaviour that others may have come to expect for both interactive use and in long-established scripts, it's unlikely to be changed now. ** Package changed: bash (Ubuntu) = coreutils (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: coreutils (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927218 Title: Unable to unset setguid bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coreutils/+bug/927218/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 830271] [NEW] Suggest commenting-out deb-src lines in default /etc/apt/sources.list
Public bug reported: During a trial install of 11.10 (oneiric) today almost 23MB of sources listings are downloaded (based on du -csh /var/lib/apt/lists/*_Sources). Each daily check thereafter will also re-download those files if they are updated. That's a huge waste of time and bandwidth given that the vast majority of users will never download a source packages. The tiny percentage that do will be able to enable the sources if they really want to. I suggest commenting out these lines by default to improve the speed of installation, marginally reduce disk space requirements, reduce bandwidth use both at install time and each day in the future, and to reduce load on mirrors. [Bug 673536] Re: Delete lost+found folder automatically if it's empty
Hi Simon, lost+found is not only re-created by e2fsck, but also when the filesystem is created. It's meant to be there in advance and left untouched at all times so that in normal operation there's no likely way a crash could break it. [Bug 661642] Re: find: stops when directory matched
Hi there, thanks for taking the time to report this. What you're seeing, however, isn't a bug but a result of how the shell is handling *test*. When you type find -iname *atest*, bash tries to expand *atest* by looking in the current directory. When it doesn't find anything, it leaves *atest* unchanged and things work as you want. When you typed fine -iname *test*, bash again tried to expand *test*. This time, it found 123 test 123. It replaced *test* with 123 test 123, and passed it to find. So what was really executed in this case was find -iname '123 test 123'. Find correctly found exactly one match in this case. To make sure bash leaves your *test* alone, you need to put quotes around it. Something like this: find -iname *test* and it should work as you expect. Closing this as not-a-bug. hronizing, see :help syn-sync. For a long ... section this means it starts in the middle of the text and gets it wrong. If this is a regular problem for you, you can try increase the minlines option (:syntax syn minlines=200), or to be really sure, by setting :syntax sync fromstart, which tells Vim that, no matter how big the file, go right to the start to figure it out (with the possibility of a long wait). [Bug 501730] Re: Very serious bug: rsync transmits identical files when it should not
Thanks for taking the time to write this up. However, I think you've missed a particular detail that explain why rsync is behaving the way it is. Basically, there is a fundamental difference between rsync foo bar and rsync foo/ bar/, which is described under the USAGE section of the man page. The first form, which you used in your initial example, will synchronise a file or folder called foo _into_ a folder called bar. In other words, foo is copied to bar/foo. In the case of your example, therefore, the files that were cp'd into bar are not the files being compared, and so rsync needs to copy them. However the second form, with the trailing slash on the source folder, means to synchronise the files in a folder called foo with the files in a folder called bar, so now it's comparing foo/a with bar/a, etc, which is probably what you wanted. The reason it's seeing differences now is that your initial cp was not set to preserve timestamps (you'd need cp -p or similar), so again rsync thinks they're different and needs to copy the files. Finally, why does it copy the files instead of using the checksum comparison? This is described in the man page under the option -W, --whole-file: when source and destination are both local, it doesn't bother with the checksum comparison as it's less effort. ** Changed in: rsync (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Very serious bug: rsync transmits identical files when it should not https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501730 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 319923] Re: 'cp' needs to read the wildcard (*) on the desintation folder as the destination folder
Thanks for taking the time to file this report. I can see a problem with your suggestion however: * is a perfectly valid file/directory name. For example, using the bash shell, you can do this touch original_file ; mkdir test ; cp original_file test/* ; ls -al test. When * is handled as a wildcard, that is something that your shell is doing, not cp itself. For example, when bash sees * it tries to expand it using file- matching first, and if it matches nothing it just passes it as a literal * to the command. Since cp is a command that changes data, and therefore potentially dangerous, I think it's safer to leave it working as try to do exactly what you asked, and no more. -- 'cp' needs to read the wildcard (*) on the desintation folder as the destination folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/319923 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 198847] Re: Part of the names of Lithuanian cities are incorrect
I've checked all the cities listed in the diff, and the Wikipedia tab works for all except Telšiai, which appears as a few odd control-like characters on my screen. However, if I gunzip .marble/data/cache/wiki_Telšiai and open it in a browser, it looks fine. Can anybody else check if they're having the same problem? -- Part of the names of Lithuanian cities are incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 302057] Re: Reducing scale of png images usually result in bigger file size
The resize is achieved by using ImageMagick to run convert originalfile -resize newsize newfile As noted on this page: http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?f=1t=6245 resizing causes the image to change to 16-bit, probably from 8-bit (run identify filename.png at a command prompt to see). I can see why this is done - as the image is shrunk, pixels are merged and new colours created. However, this makes the file larger. Perhaps the tool should include an option that causes the output to have the same depth as the input? The original image's depth can be determined with: identify -format '%[depth]' filename.png which outputs a single integer. ** Changed in: nautilus-image-converter (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- Reducing scale of png images usually result in bigger file size https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302057 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
