I've been using "xfce4-panel". You can have it float, or dock it to the side of the screen. [Bug 1204069] [NEW] lxc dhcp fails
Public bug reported: With the latest Saucy, LXC containers don't seem to have their network setting configured correctly. I've tried this with both containers created before I upgraded to Saucy, and containers freshly created after the upgrade. In both cases, the guest user-space is 12.04. After the container has started I try to find the address, but it fails: $ host precise 10.0.3.1 Using domain server: Name: 10.0.3.1 Address: 10.0.3.1#53 Aliases: Host precise not found: 2(SERVFAIL) Looking in the syslog reveals that it did try to obtain an address, and dnsmasq did try to serve one (I think). The following is repeated many times: Jul 23 12:07:27 GBN-ASTUBBS-UB dnsmasq-dhcp[1475]: DHCPDISCOVER(lxcbr0) 00:16:3e:9e:0f:ee Jul 23 12:07:27 GBN-ASTUBBS-UB dnsmasq-dhcp[1475]: DHCPOFFER(lxcbr0) 10.0.3.154 00:16:3e:9e:0f:ee But, still, nothing can get in, and nothing can get out. [Bug 1067686] [NEW] Multiple monitor support REGRESSION
Public bug reported: For the last year or two, I have been using Ubuntu in a triple-head setup: 1 laptop screen, plus two DVI monitors. This hasn't always been glitch free, but my recent experiences have been fairly smooth*. I'm using an ATI card with the 'radeon' driver (lshw reports "Whistler XT [AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series]"). Yesterday, the login screen appeared on only two of the three screens, and Unity appeared to hang whilst starting up, again only showing on two screens. After some fiddling I determined that the blank screen's DVI cable has to be physically unplugged for Unity to start correctly. Some fiddling further showed that using a VGA cable for the blank screen allows it to boot to desktop, but I still only get two screens. However, I can now choose which two I want. I suspect that this was related to the update I did the day before. I have attached a screenshot of my update history. Footnote: * It was still the case that the "displays" dialog sometimes failed to bring up all three screens correctly, but, once set, the triple display setup worked very reliably at log-in. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "problem update history" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067686/+attachment/3401268/+files/Screenshot%20from%202012-10-17%2011%3A39%3A36.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067686 Title: Multiple monitor support REGRESSION To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1067686/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

But, so would half a dozen other distros (mostly embedded, I think). Each then add their own patches on top of that, potentially. These patches will fix bugs, add features, add bugs, and change random things to taste. Does the Linaro identifier now mean anything? No, no more so than the GNU macros are working for you now. [Bug 780551] Re: incorrect interface in avxintrin.h
I'm very nervous about adding anything that allows you to tell which distro/vendor/whatever a compiler came from. Yes, there are applications where a careful user could use that information, but the problem is that other people would use that macro incorrectly, and before you know it you have entire packages that are silently depending on these things. Then one day, Ubuntu ceases to use Linaro compilers, and suddenly dozens of packages stop building for no known reason, and all their dependencies also fail to build/install, and it's the compiler team that gets the blame. And, of course, you also gets sources that won't build on other distros, etc. The correct way to handle this is to add a macro per-feature that tells you what form to use. Unfortunately, this really has to be done at the time of the interface changes, or else you still have versions you don't know what to do with. I think that in this case, given that natty gcc is frozen and won't get upgraded to 4.5.3, we should add a small patch which defines a macro _MM_MASKSTORE_PS_NEEDS_NATTY_WORKAROUND. This will only ever exist in natty gcc, and therefore very few people will ever know it exists, and even fewer will have any interest in using it, so nothing will break later. [Bug 721531] Re: [armel] gcc computes wrong address for main() at build time
@Steve: if you want GDB to give the true function address use '*main' - 'main' will give the first address after the prologue (at least when setting breakpoints, it does). @Michael: I think casting pointers from one pointer type to another (type punning) is deeply dodgy due to strict-aliasing rules, but I don't think converting them to integers is a problem (provided they are the same width). The bug here appears to be that GCC assumes that function pointer are always aligned, but fails to realise that thumb function pointers are always aligned+1, so to speak. I don't think it will be too hard to fix it. (Of course, fixing GCC so it's consistent probably won't help mono - that'll still need a fix. In my experience, this concept of off-by-one pointers breaks many, many things in 'interesting' ways.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/721531 Title: [armel] gcc computes wrong address for main() at build time -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 686381] Re: C++ link failure on ARM
I can reproduce the failure under a Natty chroot. The missing symbol, "__exidx_end", is defined by the linker script (see /usr/lib/ldscripts/armelf_linux_eabi.x), so I can't see why it isn't defined, but that's just a symptom of the real problem. For whatever reason, this package is setup to link libstdc++ statically, not dynamically, and this means manually specifying all the hidden libraries, but they have been done incorrectly. If the command is truncated before the "-nodefaultlibs" option, thus allowing the compile driver to do a normal link, it does not use libgcc_eh at all, but uses libgcc_s.so instead, and the link is successful. The following link line works correctly with this compiler: g++ -Wall -Wunused -Wimplicit -Wreturn-type -Wno-unknown-pragmas -Wshadow -g -O2 -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -o luatex luatex-luatex.o -Wl ,--export-dynamic libluatex.a libff.a libluamisc.a libluasocket.a liblua51.a /home/ams/lp686381/luatex-0.60.2/build/libs/zziplib/libzzip.a -lpng -lz -lpoppler /home/ams/lp686381/luatex-0.60.2/build/libs/obsdcompat/libopenbsd- compat.a libmd5.a libmplib.a lib/lib.a /home/ams/lp686381/luatex-0.60.2/build/texk/kpathsea/.libs/libkpathsea.a -ldl -lm -nodefaultlibs -Wl,-Bstatic -lstdc++ -Wl,-Bdynamic -lm -lgcc_s -lgcc -lc -lgcc_s -lgcc ** Changed in: gcc-linaro Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/686381 Title: C++ link failure on ARM -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@ James Hunt Trying to reproduce -O1 or -O2 by listing a set of optimization flags is invalid. a) most optimization flags are no-ops at the default -O0 (optimization disabled); b) There are some optimizations that are enabled at a given optimization level, but do not have a named flag.
