[Bug 1448102] Re: Kubuntu 15.04: plasmashell crashes
I tried the live distro in my computer, and the plasma desktop crashed too. When I tried it in my laptop it runs normally. I tried your solution, but it still doesn't work. However, I found out this message in the konsole terminal when I executed the plasmashell command: "This program requires an X86 processor that supports SSE2 extension, at least a Pentium 4 or newer." [Bug 1448102] Re: Kubuntu 15.04: plasmashell crashes
I used the upstart and the non-upstart kernel options for both kernels that I have installed (3.19.0-15-generic and 3.16.0-34-generic) and none of them work for me. To have some sort of a GUI, I have to login in a terminal with ctrl+alt+F1 and startx, it opens a black screen with a mouse cursor in the middle of the screen. As soon as a program crashes, I can use the trace with gdb option from the debugging KDE window to open a konsole instance, open a new tab with ctrl+shift+T, and open programs manually like firefox or thunderbird. It seems in this environment it only works the System Activity window shortcut with ctrl+ESC. I'm thinking that a much better solution for me at the moment is to downgrade to KDE4. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448102 Title: Kubuntu 15.04: plasmashell crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1448102/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 883375] Re: [needs-packaging] Transcriber AG
I understand what you say Giulio, but in the original Transcriber sourceforge page in http://trans.sourceforge.net/en/presentation.php states in July 2011 that "Transcriber has been superseded by TranscriberAG". An alternative would be to package the new TranscriberAG as a different tool, but unless the original project is taken over by another leader group, it won't be updated. In that case is up to Ubuntu packagers whether to include the new one along the original one, or just simply replace the original package with a new one with TranscriberAG. [Bug 1179755] [NEW] libreoffice hangs in splash screen, javaldx could be affected too
Public bug reported: This is happening to me for the first time in Kubuntu 13.04. However in a laptop with the same distro version LibreOffice is working fine. A package that seems related to this issue is javaldx, because when I try to open any libreoffice instance, such package stays in memory and seems to do nothing. Another oddity in my case is that the progress bar doesn't show at all. The strange thing is that LibreOffice doesn't crash, it just displays the splash screen silently as long as I wish, until I kill the process. In my ~/.config/libreoffice directory it made another profile: before there was a directory named 3 and now it makes another directory named 4. If I delete the directory 4 libreoffice recreates it, with just a single file in it named javasettings_Linux_x86.xml located in ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/config That happens every time I try to open libreoffice again. In my ~/.libreoffice directory there is also a directory named 3. I started an instance from the CLI too, but LibreOffice doesn't show any output, even when I kill the process. I've tried reinstalling LibreOffice again from the offical repo, through a *tar.gz file from libreoffice.org, through the PPA, and nothing until now. I've tried too moving the ~/.config/libreoffice and ~/.libreoffice to new locations to no avail. In this moment I have installed the official repo LibreOffice suite. I found a similar behavior in Askubuntu.com, where people are reporting this problem too: http://askubuntu.com/questions/287953/libreoffice- crashes-or-hangs-12-10-and-13-04 and http://askubuntu.com/questions/285772/how-do-i-install-libreoffice-4-0-2 I appreciate any help given about this subject, Best regards, -Andrey ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: libreoffice 1:4.0.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-19.30-generic 3.8.8 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 Architecture: i386 Date: Mon May 13 19:20:50 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2010-04-30 (1109 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100427) MarkForUpload: True ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=es:en_US:de:ja:en PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=es_CR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: libreoffice UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2013-04-26 (17 days ago) ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 raring third-party-packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1179755 Title: libreoffice hangs in splash screen, javaldx could be affected too To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1179755/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The uname -a command shows this message: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux This is my system's memory output from the "free -h" command: total used free sharedbuffers almac. Mem: 1,2G 1,1G 155M 0B25M 226M -/+ buffers/cache: 849M 407M Swap: 1,9G 100M 1,8G The problem is every time I want to install any package in r-cran with the function install.packages(), it doesn't matter the package or the mirror, it crashes. It seems to be a problem related with the r-base package and its dependencies, because when I try the same with an installed R version for windows running in wine, it does it as supposed. I attached the data to this bug related to the crash, however I don't know what additional data or information to collect in order to diagnose this problem. I would gladly submit any information that you think it could be useful to solve it. Thank you in advanced for any help given about this subject. [Bug 548709] Re: [R423] gamma bug, display too bright when using DVI-VGA adapter [patch]
Unfortunately this problem is affecting me in Quantal Quetzal as well. Basically the behavior is the same as the other fellow users are experiencing: A too light-saturated Desktop Display that cannot be corrected using any gamma utility. In the past I could fix this using the radeon.modeset=0 variable in the kernel boot, however since the upgrade, if I do that I don't have any display, it logins normally but no image whatsoever. So in order to boot in the system again I should use the radeon.modeset=1 variable again, with the undesirable color side effects. Nevertheless this seems to be affecting the Desktop only, because if I use any OpenGL program, like the Open Arena game, colors shows normal. Alas I've tried some of the solutions suggested in this thread with no luck. I've attached the dmesg and lscpci logs to this report as the documentation indicates, however if you need more information in order to fix this issue, I would gladly do whatever it takes to see this fixed. Some basic information for reference is I'm using Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and using an ATI Radeon R100 video card. Using the uname -a shows me this kernel info: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux I appreciate any help given with this issue and I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this report and try to solve it. [Bug 779366] Re: [Upstream] Font "Nimbus Sans L" squashed in Impress slideshow
I got a similar issue with Writer and thanks to the Michael Opdenacker directions I fixed it, however I deleted all the Nimbus fonts and then rebuilt the font cache, after that I reinstalled finally the fonts the same way Mr. Opdenacker suggested and the strange font behavior stopped. So far my variations to said commands. The numbers 03, 04, 23 and 24 correspond to the other Nimbus fonts present on my system: rm /usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/n0190{03,04,23,24,43,44,63,64}l.* sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig apt-get install --reinstall gsfonts I don't know if this is relevant to this bug, but I post it hoping it can help to fix the situation. [Bug 917053] [NEW] Wine1.3 when executed takes all available space
Public bug reported: I'm running a Kubuntu 11.10 desktop and the wine package version is 1.3.28-0ubuntu1. When I execute a program with wine (let's say a *.exe file), after some seconds, I begin to get warnings about the lack of free space on my /home partition. If I check the space with df -h command I can see that the /home partition have initially a fixed space (for instance 500 MB) and after running a wine file several minutes later I got with the same command a 0 MB of free space. Fortunately it returns to the previous free space after a reboot. I got this problem with wine 1.3 but this is not present in wine 1.0. This seems to happen every time I run a wine instance, for example when I even run the wine configuration window. I suspect it could be a temporary file inside the .wine directory in my /home partition, but until now I have failed to spot the file which is causing the problem. If you need more information about it I would gladly add it to this bug and any suggestion about how can I discover the problematic file would be very appreciated. Hello I read this thread in Ubuntu Forums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1751152 and it seems it's a problem related to mirrors. [Bug 444139] Re: (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (ATI R200 chipset)
Thank you bjaglin! your solution was perfect for me! Since I have upgraded this machine to Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 (I'm using a R100 ATI videocard), it always showed I got direct rendering with glxinfo, however I had no desktop effects and couldn't run any 3D applications. After read some tutorials and launchpad bugs I set AGPSize to 32 and the desktop effects began to work, but no 3D applications (they hung up or crashed). I tried everything out there, even to compile drivers and nothing worked. But when I downgraded Mesa to 7.5.1 as you suggested (thank for provide the .deb link, it is very useful indeed!), everything got better. Still games like Open Arena run a bit slower than it used to be in Jaunty but now the 3D apps don't crash anymore, the desktop effects are still there nicely, and more important, I can use again Blender. I think there are problems related with performance in the newer mesa version in Karmic. Nevertheless this work around works flawlessly until the maintainers come up with a definitely solution to this problem. [Bug 474234] Re: WPA2 wifi networks bug in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala): networks are not detected
I have the same problem as Alberto, but I'm using a 32 bit Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 with the 2.6.31-14-generic kernel. The lspci command shows I'm using an Atheros 2413 wireless modem and I'm using the ath5k module. The problem is I'm using a WPA2 Personal-encrypted connection with the broadcasting Essid disabled (hidden essid) and it isn't detecting the connection (no connection at all). I tried to discover the network with "sudo iwlist scan", but had no success, but it discovers neighbor connections and even shows my belkin54g router, but can't connect to the wpa2 connection. Prior to Jaunty distro the laptop connected without any problem but after Jaunty it didn't work at all. I updated to Karmic recently and after several attempts and follow some guides, it still shows the above commented problem. I would like to give you more data about this but unfortunately I don't know which one more could it be necessary to solve this. If you are so kind to tell me what can I do to give you the required information in order to diagnose the problem, I will post it gladly. [Bug 329968] Re: [upstream] [3.2] No suggestions from spell checker if two are installed (OpenMedSpel)
I have the same issue in a regular Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 system. I'm using a standard Kubuntu Jaunty install CD. The command "sudo dpkg -s openoffice.org-writer" shows that I'm using right now version 3.0.1-9ubuntu3 When the system came out in April I did a regular fresh system install in a new HDD and it worked flawlessly. However three days ago the root system crashed (with ext4) and I had to format it and then did a complete reinstall (I had all my previous data in separate partitions). I installed in addition to the whole Spanish language packages (main system language), the complete English and German language packages. After the installation I loaded a previous work in Writer (the document was in German) and it showed the same issues discussed here. I removed the hunspell-de-med package and the system removed automatically the language-support-extra-de package along with the hunspell one. It seems that this "repaired" the problem with the German language, but when I load an document in English, the spell checker suggest even German words mixed with English ones. I tried unloading completely the Openoffice and loading it again, and the problem persist. This problem seemed not affecting the Spanish spell checker though. I would gladly give additional information to help solve this problem, if it's needed. [Bug 361408] Re: [kubuntu] openjdk recommends pulseaudio and is not necessary for kubuntu
Exactly the same problem here. When I try to install icedtea6-plugin, it installs pulseaudio dependencies in Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 too. In consequence every time that I install it, the flash videos come soundless and if I play them anyway, they just crash. After do: sudo apt-get remove icedtea6-plugin and then sudo apt-get autoremove --purge, all dependencies get uninstalled without problems and everything comeback to normality (I mean, I can watch flash videos without crashing and with sound again). I'm using the flash nonfree plugin in firefox. Maybe this can be another bug, but it is close related with the pulseaudio dependencies tied to the java plugin. Since the distro don't use Pulse Audio, is there a way to get rid of those dependencies just for Kubuntu users? [Bug 281950] Re: KDE Cannot start from kdm or gdm
In my case I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid final and it used to have KDE 3.5.10. After the upgrade, I can't enter in KDE4 after boot, nevertheless I could starting it manually with "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart" . I was trying to fix this when I applied an updated package the Tuesday from repos and after that there is no way to login in KDE4 anymore, when I tried the command "startx", it begins to start the X server but then it suddenly died. When I tried to do it with the "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart" command, I can get the session manager, choose a session and write my pass, try to login and it died again one more time. Reading the Xorg.0.log I noticed that in my case is a problem with the SiS video driver, but I post it here because I think the problem is close related. I attached to this bug repot the xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and kdm.log files. If you need another file please let me know. By the way the file .xsession-errors is empty. Thank you very much for your help in advanced and keep the good work! ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19501389/Xorg.0.log -- KDE Cannot start from kdm or gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
