[Bug 208267] Re: openjdk-6 path should be added to java_home

2009-06-08 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Daniel,

you have three ways (if you want eclipse to become updated and fixed):

- assign this bug to Ubuntu MOTU Team (because they maintain eclipse in ubuntu)
- find similar bugs in debian and try to pester debian maintainers (because
debian packages migrate to ubuntu)
- fix it yourself and post the patched package to PPA (or even build the latest
one, but I'm sure there should be one in someones PPA)

It's an OSS world :)

[Bug 208267] Re: openjdk-6 path should be added to java_home

2009-06-05 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Daniel,

since the eclipse package is not updated to the current mainstream
version (actually it's about 2 years old), and I guess wont be in
observable future, this bug will migrate from one ubuntu release to
another. The fix is really simple: just add the needed path to
JAVA_HOME. Or use netbeans :) It's up-to-date, and there is some support
on this IDE in ubuntu forums and launchpad.

[Bug 214952] [NEW] Eclipse doesn't find OpenJDK6 JVM after installation

2008-04-10 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

Package: eclipse-3.2.2-5ubuntu2
Distribution: Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy beta
Expected: Flowless start of eclipse after install
Actual result: Eclipse cannot find installed OpenJDK JVM and exits with error

Descrition:

Trying to start eclipse after installation leads to error because
eclipse can't find OpenJDK JRE which was installed before eclipse
installation. This behavior can be fixed either by setting JAVA_HOME
variable or be editing ~/.eclipse/eclipserc. But much better solution is
ta add a line /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk in /etc/eclipse/java_home,
which is contained in eclipse package, so this eliminates need to
manualy edit configuration files and makes eclipse work out-of-the-box
that is preferable for an end user.

[Bug 209939] Re: f-spot.exe crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-04-07 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Why this and most of alike bugreports about f-spot crashing in hardy on
closing are marked as incomplete/invalid? Nothing special is needed to
reproduce it: just make a fresh install of Hardy (or upgrade to it),
open and close the f-spot and get core dump. That's it. At least all
bugrepots marked as invalid, with comments about duplicating should be
marked as duplicates of this or similar bugreport.

I think the importance also should be set to high at least. It's not a
good idea to have a crashing aplication which is assumed to be the
default for common every day use in the LTS release.

Here are two last messages printed to terminal when f-spot run whith --debug
option:
(f-spot:7360): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: GdkPixbufLoader finalized without calling
gdk_pixbuf_loader_close() - this is not allowed. You must explicitly end the
data stream to the loader before dropping the last reference.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Segmentation fault message is printed out on application close. Theese
are the only error messages.

+ language-pack-ja-base

  Release: Ubuntu 7.10
- Package version: 0.33.1
- Steps to reproduce: Try to use restricted-manager with Finnish or Russian
localization
+ Package version: 7.10+20071012
+ Steps to reproduce: Try to use restricted-manager with Finnish, Russian or
Japanese localization

- The same bug is actually caused by different things for different
- language packs.
+ This bug is caused bu errors in translations in restricted-manager.po.
+ There are two messages in po-file that have inline dictionary key 'os'.
+ In all 3 translations this key causes bug, the correct usage of the key
+ in translated text should be '%(os)s'

- For the Finnish bug it's caused by a mistake in fi.po on lines 274 and
- 277 the %(os)-kehittäjät string should be replaced with %(os)s
- -kehittäjät
+ In Finnish and Japanese translation key misses format specifier 's', in
+ Russian the key itself is missed, there is %(s) instead. I've uploaded
+ file patches.tar.gz which contains three debdiffs with patches that fix
+ po-files in each of language-pack-*-base file.

- And for the Russian bug it's caused by an empty msgstr (missing
- translation) on line 261 in ru.po.
+ Also as soon as I'll be approved for LP Bugtesting team I will upload
+ patched sources to my PPA.

[Bug 154214] Re: Restricted Manager fails to start with Russian, Finnish or Japanese localization packs.

2007-10-22 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Patching and building restricted-manager-core, restricted-manager and
restricted-manager-kde doesn't make much sense, because *.mo files
aren't generated during the build process. Quick investigation shows,
that localized messages for restricted-manager are contained in
language-pack-*-base packages, so they need to be patched instead of
restricted-manager-* and our big pacth should be divided to 3 lesser
ones: for ru, fi, and ja locales respectively.

I've added affected packages, and assigned the bug to the language-
pack-*-base maintainer - Marin Pitt.

I'll post new patches soon.

Sles, if you unset LANG the actual language to be used with restricted

[Bug 154214] Re: Restricted Manager fails to start with Russian or Finnish localization packs.

2007-10-21 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
I wonder how could this get through the development cycle and beta
testing - Russian/Finnish localisations and restricted-manager are
widely used.

Hmm, well, many things are broken in this release. Just look at the bugs
related to fgrlx drivers, and framebuffer bugs (setting the vga kernel
parameter to something different from normal breaks tty's I/O :)).

I guess this bug will not be fixed soon. :( As it was in 7.04,
domestic bugs don't get much attention to. It's sad. One thing is
obvious - you don't use restricted-manager often (once or twice maybe),
so this does not become annoying :)

[Bug 154214] Re: [gutsy] restricted-manager fails to start after upgrade

2007-10-19 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
The same thing happens with finnish locale. See bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/restricted-manager/+bug/153220

As I can see from source package of restricted-manager there is now translation
in the file ru.po for the following text:
---
#: ../restricted-manager:476
msgid
Proprietary drivers do not have public source code that %(os)s developers
are free to modify. They represent a risk to you because they are only
available on the types of computer chosen by the manufacturer, and security
updates to them depend solely on the responsiveness of the manufacturer.
%(os)s cannot fix or improve these drivers.
msgstr

#: ../restricted-manager:499
---
So the key 'os' in % {'os' : get_os_name()) becomes invalid in
RestrictedManagerCommon.py line 242. In finnish case there is an error in
translations (see the link i've provided).

So the quick workaround is to copy-paste the contetnts of msgid secton
i've provided to msgstr section of ru.po.

I will provide a patch with translated text soon.

2007-10-19 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Problem might be language related, it seams we three all are Finns.

Explore the link in my post above. Setting LANG=C helps. Btw, I've
found, that there is no translation for the string, that ends with
'these drivers.' (see the output) in ruussian file (ru.po). In finnish
file (fi.po) there is an error in translation %(os)-kehit... should
be changed to %(os)s -kehit Look at the source file for restricted
manager.

[Bug 154214] [gutsy] restricted-manager fails to start after upgrade

2007-10-19 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: restricted-manager-core

Arch: AMD64
Release: Ubuntu 7.10
Package vesrion: 0.33.1
Steps to reproduce: Install russian localization packages, upgrade 7.04-7.10,
start restricted-manager.

Problem:
After upgrading to Ubuntu 7.10 from 7.04 restricted manager fails to start if
ru_RU.UTF-8 locale is set. Here is the output:

If you set LANG=C and start restricted-manager again this bug does not
occur, switching back to LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 leads to bug again.

[Bug 111690] Re: Kernel oops when inserting pcmcia CF reader

2007-05-03 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Did all tested distributions are amd64 ?

Yes teseted distros were amd64.

Have you tried latest git of vanilla_kernel ?

No I have not, all kernels were default kernels that come with
distributions, no 3d party patches applied or self-compiled kernels
used.

Take a look to this bug
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7711

Maybe they (tested distros) have ATA support disabled in kernel, or use
ide-cs instead of pata_pcmcia, I don't know. Unfortunately I have no
access to dmesg of tested distros (I simply deinstalled them) to prove
it. I can try to install Debian on a separate partition on weekend and
post some debug info if needed.

I think the best way to get it fixed is upstream.

Is there any way to disable pata_pcmcia support, for example blacklist
it and use ide-cs instead?

[Bug 111690] Re: Kernel oops when inserting pcmcia CF reader

2007-05-03 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Thanx for reply.

Well, quick investigationn of packages.debian.org shows that there is
now ata support in their kernel instead they use ide-cs, so this is why
CF worked in debian.

Ok I'll try to fill a bug at bugzilla.kernel.org, and use an usb
multicard reader :) If any pacth will be introduced will it be
backported by ubuntu kernel team? As I understand the module will be
fixed in the latest kernel (2.6.22 or whatever)?

Hello!

I've made an experiment: downloaded and burned i386 version of Feisty,
booted from CD and magic happened! CompactFlash mounted perfectly! I've
attached corresponding dmesg part. So what are your suggestions? Is it a
packaging problem?

PS. I'm very close to switching to i386 distro :)
