[Bug 333592] Re: Lose built-in keyboard and pointer stick input completely
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I am using an HP 2710p tablet PC, Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-11-generic (SMP). When I flip the tablet up to use it and then flip it back to use the keyboard and pointing stick, sometimes the keyboard and pointing stick do not respond at all. The interesting thing is that I sometimes use a bluetooth mouse and the bluetooth mouse is unaffected by this behavior. Also, sometimes after boot, the same behavior occurs (keyboard and pointing stick unresponsive), but I cannot pair the bluetooth mouse due to a different bug in Intrepid. I assume you would like me to upload some log files. Would you like me to wait until this bug produces this behavior to upload the logs, or would uploading the logs at any time work just as well. I am fairly sure it isn't an X lockup, and I haven't tried to ssh in and restart the keyboard drivers as suggested in other bug reports. The only reason I am opening a new bug report is that I am using kernels where this behavior is supposedly fixed. Thank you in advance. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. + AplayDevices: + List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: student1573 F pulseaudio + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xe4644000 irq 17' +Mixer name : 'Analog Devices AD1981' +Components : 'HDA:11d41981,103c30c8,00100200 HDA:14f12c06,103c1379,0010' +Controls : 11 +Simple ctrls : 9 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=07be7797-d822-4815-9cdd-554d4ea05204 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) + MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq 2710p + NonfreeKernelModules: windrvr6 + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-24-generic root=UUID=11ceb229-5c6f-43e4-af30-473800712991 ro splash vga=773 quiet splash + ProcEnviron: + LANG=en_US.utf8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.42-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 + Regression: No + RelatedPackageVersions: linux-firmware 1.34.1 + Reproducible: Yes + Tags: lucid needs-upstream-testing + Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic i686 + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 02/26/2008 + dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.bios.version: 68MOU Ver. [Bug 512490] Re: Lose keyboard and mouse input after tablet rotate
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel After I rotate my tablet screen (eg: the actual screen, not using xsetwacom) and put it back, the built-in keyboard and pointing stick on my HP 2710p go completely dead. Re: [Bug 146918] Re: Poor descriptions for some applications in Startup Programs window
I think this is better, but I still don't like how some descriptions describe what the process does while others are simply the same words in the name rearranged while others describe the process itself. Also, get rid of the word 'daemon' - it means nothing to people who view their computer as a tool to get work done (read: a large subset of our presumed target users) and people who know what a daemon is can figure it out even if it isn't explicitly indicated. This is what I came up with in a few minutes at work on a Windows machine (so I couldn't check a few things, noted above). I'm still quite a newbie, so please correct me at every opportunity. I am still unsure about passive voice. "GNOME accessibility" - "Arrange alternative interaction devices" "Bluetooth manager" - "Connect and configure bluetooth devices" "Driver update" - "Configure hardware drivers" "Evolution alarm notifier" - "Configure advanced alarm clock features" (is this correct?) Re: [Bug 146918] Re: Poor descriptions for some applications in Startup Programs window
I think that as long as it's included and used in Ubuntu, we should fix it. It's a completely trivial fix anyway. Immediately perfect and improve the things you can, work carefully and thoughtfully on the things you can't. [Bug 333592] [NEW] Lose built-in keyboard and pointer stick input completely
Public bug reported: I am using an HP 2710p tablet PC, Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-11-generic (SMP). ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lose built-in keyboard and pointer stick input completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333592 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item
In general, the described behavior happens when I move the mouse while down-clicking and immediately up-clicking (releasing the click). It seems that when I up-click, the mouse is over a transitive drawing of the buttons in the context menu, and the up-click selects a button that I am not intending to select. Although I would also swear that this happens when I'm fairly certain I do not move the mouse. Hope this helps a resolution. -- [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 275067] [NEW] Right clicking twice on opened rss feed closes rss feed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox When I open an rss feed (using Live bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar) and right click on an item in the dropdown menu, a nice context menu pops up (open, open in new window, open in new tab, etc) over the opened rss feed. If I then right click on a different item in the rss feed dropdown menu, both the context menu and the dropdown menu close. I would prefer that right clicking on an item brings up its context menu (the current behavior), then right clicking outside of the context menu and the dropdown menu would make them both disappear (the current behavior), but right clicking on an element with the dropdown menu would open the context menu for that item (and obviously close the other context menu) (the expected behavior). Essentially, clicking outside of an active object makes that object inactive (or close, etc.). Clicking within an object that is a layer from the "top" would then close the current "top" layer object, and pass the action onto the second (now the "top") layer object. Steps to reproduce: 1) Add an RSS feed to your bookmarks toolbar. 2) Left click on the live bookmark that you just created on the bookmarks toolbar (a dropdown list of items should appear). 3) Right click on one of the items (a context menu should appear). 4) Left or right click on a different item in the dropdown list (the dropdown list and context menu disappear). 4b) Left or right click outside the dropdown list and context menu (the dropdown list and context menu disappear). I would like to see step 4 changed to: Left or right click on a different item in the dropdown list (the context menu for the selected item appears). [Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP
I would have to respectfully disagree with Dragonlord; i believe that there is a large continuum of the freedom of software, akin to many things. Mozilla is a lot freer than many other web browsers out there, and they deserve props for that. However, forcing what amounts to a EULA on the end users is simply not a good idea, as the vast majority of them have no intention of changing a single byte of code of Firefox and distributing it. Therefore, as posted by Dave Morley, I think a simple message bar would suffice, as it gives Mozilla a legal leg to stand on without annoying end users. I can't say that I've ever disagreed with Mr. Shuttleworth's decisions, in fact, he has come up with compromises that I did not. That being said, I don't consider myself a Shuttleworth fan aside from the fact that his previous leadership and business insight leads me to believe that he will make the best commercial decision for Canonical - to not annoy end users. I'm sure there will be a compromise, and all (most) parties will be content. Mozilla seems to have been a little overzealous with their defense of their logo (see: Debian IceWeasel browser), and seem to be backing down over the outcry. In my mind, that is exactly what a beta release is for, to flesh out bugs, mistakes, and mis-features before they get released into the wild. The journey to solve bug #1 continues with the small step of removing an intrusive and largely irrelevant EULA. -- AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 110899] Re: workspace-switcher needs to work with dualhead setup
I would like to report that workspace-switcher gets messed up with two monitors running separate X servers (Xinerama is off). Whenever I change the number of workspaces on the second monitor (X server 1), the workspaces on the first monitor (X server 0) change! Therefore, the number of workspaces on the second X server (by default is 2) is unchangeable. I have reported upstream to the Gnome devs here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=552744 I am running 8.04, with Compiz, using nvidia-settings to setup the two monitors on my GeForce FX 5500. [Bug 146954] gnome freezes after proprietary nvidia driver install
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new I have an XFX Nvidia GeForce 7600GT AGP. After installing the proprietary video drivers from any source (restricted-drivers-manager, envy, automatix - yes, i know, it was a last-ditch effort, and the driver from the nvidia site) GNOME will almost load all the way and then completely freeze my system (ctrl+alt+f1 doesn't even work). It freezes as it loads the clock and other toolbar applets. I have tried fresh installs using all of the methods described above, to no avail. I tried on a fresh install of kubuntu, to no avail. I tried on Gutsy Beta (today is 9/29/2007) to no avail. I am not sure where the bug exists, but it seems to be in either the driver itself or in ubuntu. I tried the relevant steps described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#troubleshooting but none of them worked. I can and have reproduced the bug. If you would like more information, please don't hesitate to contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I can even reinstall Ubuntu as many times as you want, because my data is on a separate drive. -Andruk Tatum ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome freezes after proprietary nvidia driver install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146954 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
