[Bug 1253617] Re: package libboost1.53-tools-dev 1.53.0-6+exp3ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/quickbook', which is also in package libboost1.49-dev 1.49.0-4

2013-11-21 Thread Andy S
Was the result of an upgrade from 13.04. Everything went ok and after
the reboot when I tried to install some extra packages with synaptic,
the dependency problems appeared. Had to manually purge the older
libboost packages before I was able to install the 53 version. After
this everything looks ok.

[Bug 974054] Re: dhcpd attempts to use /var/run/dhcpd.pid, AppArmor errors

2012-04-05 Thread Andy S
I have the same problem with 12.04 LTS. The issue seems to be that the
dhcpd daemon is pointing to the wrong default. I was able to get it
working by adding the following to the /etc/init/isc-dhcp-server.conf
for the exec line at the bottom. Changing it to:

exec /usr/sbin/dhcpd -f -q -4 -pf /var/run/dhcp-server/dhcpd.pid -cf
$CONFIG_FILE $INTERFACES

It then started ok.

[Bug 756753] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-04-13 Thread Andy S
Seem likely to be similar/same issue here, only I'm only using the
Radeon driver with my Ati HD4200 gpu.

As I was initiating irc broadcast account - popup causing crash seem
likely.

Freshly upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10 (and all way back to Karmic!)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: chromium-browser

Using menu to nav to 'report problem' option opens chrome:bugreport/#123
type page.

Editing url to chrome:bugreport (curiosity :P) then causes issues:-
attempt to close tab crashes browser with segfault.

This probably shouldn't happen! Recent addition of chrome web-apps is
only user change made recently...

(sorry if daily build bugreports aren't meant to be here!)

Uninstallable at present on Ubuntu 10.10 - missing dependency cups-dev*
(and possibly 4 more - installer fails one missing dependency at a
time):

INSTALL MISSING REQUIRED DEPENDENCIES

warning: There are 5 missing REQUIRED dependencies.
note: Installation of dependencies requires an active internet connection.
warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: cups-devel (CUPS devel- Common Unix
Printing System development files)
warning: This installer cannot install 'cups-devel' for your distro/OS and/or

error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency. Please manually
install this dependency and re-run this installer.

Yes - I have the deb-src repos enabled.

Presumably people will more likely to try getting this printer/scanner
with Maverick than older releases.

2010-10-05 Thread Andy S
OK - after guessing the actual package names of the missing depends, got
the latest hplip to install and after editing
/usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat as per instructions above (then
re-connecting device) scan functions.

Will leave the packaging of a newer hplip to the experts!

Thanks for the fix!

[Bug 363695] Re: update-apt-xapian-index uses too much CPU

2010-06-22 Thread Andy S
Still an issue here too: Lucid updated to 22 June 2010, this office
machine:

cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 15
model : 4
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
stepping: 3
cpu MHz : 3000.000
cache size : 2048 KB

goes into 'lift-off' mode while updating the apt database via update-
apt-xapian - I see no good reason for this, and certainly isn't a
desirable activity for netbook/other low power devices..

can't see any other errors in logs.

More info if needed..hoping full shutdown + restart will now repeat this
incident and it was just a random spurious inexplicable incident!!

[Bug 381872] Re: Keyboard layout on login screen (QWERTY) not consistent with keyboard layout when logged in (AZERTY) since upgrade

2009-08-23 Thread Andy S
+1. Had to install (9.04) by removing laptop hard disk to USB caddy,
then use 2nd PC to install (laptop has broken cdrom + won't boot from
USB) This worked fine* however, the laptop has French keyboard layout,
but on boot to fresh install on laptop, X and console are still US
layout, easy enough to add/change layout in Gnome, but less so in
console/X.

Previously (xorg.conf) it would be a simple matter of editing the
relevant section, but now this is less than trivial - not least due to
there being no xorg.conf in the first place. Creating one would be a
solution, but not easy for everyone. I could have attempted to select
keyboard layout during install - but without knowing exactly which
variant layout the laptop has, entering username/password with layout B
then swapping to layout B could be tricky! Well it is now anyway as
login screen/console are US and Gnome Fr!

*Luckily I noticed the 'Advanced' option on final installer screen, or I
would have installed Grub to the temp host PC mbr and not the USB driver
being installed to!

[Bug 381872] Re: Keyboard layout on login screen (QWERTY) not consistent with keyboard layout when logged in (AZERTY) since upgrade

2009-08-23 Thread Andy S
Additional: A possible solution is to run:

dpkg-reconfigure console-data

to redefine default keyboard layout of the console, and presumably X
also, see:

http://www.malcolmhardie.com/weblogs/angus/2006/05/02/change-console-
keyboard-layout-in-debian/

Not tried this yet, but no doubt will correct the issue at hand.

2009-03-04 Thread Andy S
Well that's good to hear - perhaps I will try Ubuntu again when that
release appears...

This page detailing how to install ltsp on and existing install:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/LTSPQuickInstall#Installing%20on%20top%20of%20an%20already%20running%20desktop%20system

should be removed/corrected - the result does work - but without ldm -
appears to be an incomplete process...

[Bug 144296] Re: ltsp-build-client fails at -- updating inetd.config

2008-05-07 Thread Andy S
Thanks for that - found no man page for ltsp-update-image - forgot to
look for a --help/-h - doh!

As you say - not a bug - so didn't start new report - hopefully this
will show up in Google for those who get the same error. (will also post
on forums)

[Bug 144296] Re: ltsp-build-client fails at -- updating inetd.config

2008-05-06 Thread Andy S
Running 8.04 AMD64bit with i386 environment - client boots to login
screen but gets This workstation isn't authorized to connect to server
message - the solution of running ltsp-update-image fails due to lack of
/opt/ltsp/amd64/ folder.

[Bug 161794] Re: autologin doesn't work

2008-02-01 Thread Andy S
During the dpkg command, it is complaining about the version of libpango
not being 1.8.3 (says it is currently 1.8.2). How do I upgrade it?

Thanks.
