First time it happened to me. Created text file "~/.config/debconf-kde-
helperrc" Problem solved.

Hi, i was having the same problem in Natty 64bit
and a Lexmark x1185.
The only thing that worked for me was 
to download and compile an older version of both 
Sane (1.0.19) and XSane.
