[Bug 26294] Re: Ubuntu is missing the alsa-firmware package
Ttoine, Answer 5 years later (!), but yes. Only needed to install the fiirmware (and have done so again with 14.04.2). For my sound card, where I don't think that the firmware has changed, it would appear that it's fine to have the alsa drivers and firmware at different versions. I presume this would not be the case for newer sound cards. Still appears that the problem surrounding this discussion remains: no alsa-firmware package. And the Medibuntu option is no longer available. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/26294 Title: Ubuntu is missing the alsa-firmware package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/+bug/26294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 805232] Re: linux-image-2.6.38-8-server Missing lirc_i2c Kernel Module
Unfortunately, ir-kbd-i2c did not work properly with my remote control (there was a spate of other users at the time using 9.04) who had the same problem. udev hooked the device before lirc could get it. I could not stop this from happening, and now on 11.04, my device is not recognised at all by ir-kdb-i2c. Why remove lirc_i2c if it's still doing something useful? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805232 Title: linux-image-2.6.38-8-server Missing lirc_i2c Kernel Module To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/805232/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 655512] Re: /dev/lirc0 disappeared after upgrade from 2.6.35-20 to -22
Hi I have just encountered the same problem after installing the DKMS modules lirc-modules-source (v 0.8.7-0ubuntu4.1) I have a double whammy now, because the default kernel 2.6.38-8 and 2.6.38.11 does not have lirc_i2c driver installed which I need to get my remote to work, and the following info is quoted from the lirc project: [quote] lirc-0.8.7 has been tested with kernel versions up to 2.6.35. Older versions should also work. 2.4.x kernels are not supported anymore, but chances are good that it's still working. The last release officially supporting 2.4.x was 0.8.2. Please don't report problems with compilation on 2.4.x kernels. 2.2.x kernels are not supported anymore. >From 2.6.36 on all LIRC kernel drivers are already included in the kernel. >There has been a slight interface change in the LIRC ioctls that will affect >64-bit kernels. For recent kernels please only use 0.9.0 which is compatilbe >with the in-kernel drivers.[/quote] So the old stale package is still in the repository, even though it is not compatible with the new in-kernel drivers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655512 Title: /dev/lirc0 disappeared after upgrade from 2.6.35-20 to -22 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lirc/+bug/655512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 598253] Re: automount of usb devices does not work in 10.04 (Ubuntu and Mythbuntu)
OK, it seems this bug is already fixed. On installation of updates, things have returned to normal. But imho, not a good bug to be in a LTS release, where every fresh install from the CD is tainted. [Bug 598253] [NEW] automount of usb devices does not work in 10.04 (Ubuntu and Mythbuntu)
Public bug reported: On a fresh install of Mythbuntu 10.04 i386: Automount does not work. Inserting a USB drive does not bring up a desktop icon. It also does not show up in Thunar file manager. Mounting the device manually works (i.e. sudo mount /dev/sd*1 /media/disk) , but only root access is allowed. Also, running thunar as root does not work, and browsing of the device as user is not allowed. It is sporadic at best as root (only allows one level of drill down and then no others). Fixes have been mentioned, like modprobe -r floppy, and removing the bios floppy entry, as well as removing floppy from /etc/fstab. On my setup, none of these was in effect (i.e. floppy module not loaded, floppy not enabled in bios, and removing the module had no effect). Links: http://wiki.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1468755 http://www.webupd8.org/2010/05/fix-usb-devices-automount-not-working.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1470705 The only way to interact with removable media is via a root terminal. Very annoying indeed. I don't know if this is a duplicate bug, but I can't see a specific bug filed. There are lots of threads with people having a similar problem in the Ubuntu forums. Sadly, this will not fix the problem at source. The problem also seems to be in Ubuntu 10.04. It seems to be unrelated to hardware. I have run live cd sessions (Mythbuntu and Ubuntu) on at least 3 different machines, and the problem is evident on all of them. It seems to be related to Bug #539515, but that bug relates to boot up delays. It seems like one of the coolest features of Ubuntu, which I have been using since 6.06, has been broken. Please fix, this cripples Mythbuntu quite horribly. By the way, what one expects to happen is for the usb media to pop up on the desktop, and for the user with normal privileges to be able to browse, delete, read and write files (which is what it was like since 6.06). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- automount of usb devices does not work in 10.04 (Ubuntu and Mythbuntu) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598253 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 348600] Re: 8.10 installs, on reboot get Error 15
I think this bug is the same that I reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/371062 The most likely problem is that you selected VNC as an additional service, and used non-alphanumeric characters in your password. This crashes the installer when it configures vnc before it installs grub. The solution is to not select vnc during installation, or select it and choose a password that only has alphanumeric characters in it. [Bug 46470] Re: System freeze with white screen
This is still an issue with Gutsy and Hardy. The workaround still applies. I am concerned that a lot of new users will be put off because of this and other driver related issues..Like with Gutsy the boot CD - X works in 640x480 mode. In Hardy, X is broken and you need to boot up in failsafe mode and then enable the protected driver. I believe that it will affect a lot of users with built-in ATI Graphics cards. I have seen a lot of activity regarding the issue. I will try this with Gentoo and other distros and report back. -- System freeze with white screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 46470] Re: System freeze with white screen
Hi I have the same issue with Feisty (7.04) wih kernel 2.6.20 and all updates installed. System freezes to a white screen a few minutes after launch of Firefox (also up-to-date). The only recovery option is a hard reset. I have not looked at logs to see what happened in the kernel. Disabling powernowd (sudo chmod -x /etc/init.d/powernowd) did nothing to help - the problem is still there. I am running an elitegroup ECS RS-482 Motherboard with built in ATI 200 Graphics card and AMD64 3500 proc. System is currently unusable (but is rock-steady under Windows XP - runs for weeks not requiring a reboot). Would love to dump Windows, but need a stable Ubuntu system. I am considering other options - (Gentoo did not seem to have this problem) Please keep this bug open. And anything else I can do on my side to get to the bottom of this and get the issue resolved.
