I have previously enabled fractional scaling, which I thought was the cause of this issue, but after disabling it, the behavior has not improved. I also experience a similar/the same problem for upgrading from 14.04 to
xenial. Indeed I do for several months now, always hoping that the bug would be
fixed one day...
This is what pops up (in the end) when I sudo do-release-upgrade

I am certainly running xubuntu. And it works, so I suppose that all

There is still one keyname wit an ü in it and one with a broken ä, that don't cause any problems.
