2009-05-07 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Just to bring to your notice, this bug is _almost_ identical to Bug
#153518, but that's in Gnome. I figured out a workaround to solve the
issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-
spi/+bug/153518/comments/25). I hope that helps in narrowing down what
the issue is in Xfce / Gnome.

[Bug 367895] [NEW] Volume gets reduced on its own for specific window placements

2009-04-27 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

1. Open a video in Totem.
2. Check what level the internal volume control slider of Totem is at.
3. Move the window so that the left / right edge of Totem window touches left /
right edge of screen, and bottom edge of Totem window touches bottom of screen
/ bottom panel.
4. After moving the window to said position, click on Totem's internal volume
control slider again. You'll see that volume has reduced on its own. Open this
a few more times, and volume might drop to even lower levels, even get muted.

Checked in Ubuntu 8.10, but might possibly exist in 9.04 too.

application doesn't show the context menu either.
7. The only thing you _can_ do is to kill using the power switch. I'd tried
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, didnt work.

So entering wrong passphrases in Seahorse locks up the whole system.
Checked in Ubuntu 8.10, but may exist in 9.04 too.

[Bug 366723] Re: the properties button does nothing on categories

2009-04-27 Thread Ankur Banerjee
There's a related bug to this:

1. Under 'Items', click on any item and then click 'New Separator' button.
2. Click on the separator which has been added. You'll see that the
'Properties' button is enabled.

Do I file this as a new bug, or add this as a comment here (already
have) and in Bugzilla?

[Bug 304878] Re: 8.10 applications screen size issue

2009-04-27 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Thank you for your bug report. This isn't exactly a bug since window
size _can_ exceed screen dimensions at times. To move the window around
to access parts of an application windows falling outside your screen
area, press down the Alt key, and then use your mouse pointer to drag
the window around (even outside screen area). You may also consider
changing your screen resolution to a larger one, if possible.

2009-04-28 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Thanks for the update. Appreciate the time you're taking to report this
issue. I tried reproducing the error, but I can access
www.ubuntugeek.com and also open links with emails. Try this. Install
Epiphany from Add/Remove, and then see if you can access the sites that
you can't right now. If you can't access it using any other browser
either, then it's probably some issue with your ISP. If you _can_ access
using Epiphany, then we'll have to check for any issues with Firefox.

2009-04-28 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Anyway, thank you gettinoriginal for bringing up this issue and
reporting it. It's best to investigate the matter than let it go.

I suggest that you try this. Right-click on the NetworkManager icon in
notification area, then choose 'Edit Connections'. Find out the
connection you're using (I don't know whether you're using Wired / DSL,
etc - check under one of the tabs.) Once you find the connection, click
on its name, then click 'Edit'. Switch to the 'IPv4 Settings' tab. Copy-
paste and save in a text file whatever is there under 'DNS Servers';
then copy-paste the following line:

208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220

Click 'OK', then 'Close'. See if it works now. I'm guessing this should
solve your problem.

[Bug 366723] [NEW] the properties button does nothing on categories

2009-04-25 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

Here's how to reproduce the bug:

1. Launch alacarte menu editor by going to System > Preferences > Main Menu.
2. Click on _any_ item listed under the 'Menus' tree. You'll see that 'Move Up'
/ 'Move Down' / 'New Separator' buttons are disabled.
3. However, the 'Properties' button is enabled. On clicking this button,
nothing happens.

So, either a properties dialog box should pop-up OR the 'Properties'
button should be disabled when the selected item is something from the
'Menus' tree.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10. I don't know whether this bug exists in 9.04 (not
downloaded yet), so maybe someone who's already installed 9.04 can check
whether this bug exists in 9.04 too.

[Bug 58930] Knot2 LiveCD does not automatically start X

2006-09-04 Thread Ankur Kotwal
Public bug reported:

Booting off the Knot2 CD, Usplash tells me it's getting ready to start
X, the screen then switches to the console with just a single blinking
cursor on the top left of the screen. I waited for some time (about a
minute) but nothing was happening. I then tried to switch to another
virtual console (ALT-F2 to ALT-F7). At some point, this made the rest of
the boot up continue and X started.

[Bug 153518] Re: sticky keys disarms after idle period

2009-01-12 Thread Ankur Banerjee
I figured out a workaround for this, but I don't know what the problem
with the underlying code is. These are the steps I followed and now
Sticky Keys is working. I was just going through gconf-editor options
when I came across this thing.

1. Start gconf-editor (Configuration Editor).
2. Go to /desktop/gnome/accessibility
3. I had enabled Sticky Keys from Keyboard preferences before starting
gconf-editor. I found that stickykeys_enable was checked.
stickykeys_modifier_beep was checked. stickykeys_two_key_off was also checked.
This is important, because I had specifically not enabled this option from
Keyboard preferences. Nevertheless, it was checked. I unchecked this, and set
value for timeout to an extremely large value (24000).

Since then, Sticky Keys has been working fine. So I guess it's some
issue with 'Disable sticky keys if two keys are pressed together' being
active when it shouldn't be, right?

Another thing. Set timeout to a value other than 120, and then check /
uncheck any other Sticky Keys related gconf option. The timeout will get
reset to 120. Is this expected behavior or a bug? (If it's the latter,
should I file a new bug for this?)

OK, here's what I do:

1. System > Assistive Technologies
2. Check 'Enable assistive technologies'
3. Under Preferences, click on Keyboard Accessibility button
4. Check the box next to 'Simulate simultaneous keypresses', but _not_ the one
below it on 'Disable...'
5. Click 'Close' on both dialog boxes.

Sticky Keys gets activated for some time, and then gets deactivated
without any notification. On repeating the above steps, I find that the
checkbox next to assistive technologies is still checked, but on going
to keyboard accessibility, the one next to Sticky Keys is unchecked.

I can reproduce this everytime. I'm attaching syslog to this bug report.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

[Bug 153518] Re: sticky keys disarms after idle period

2008-12-21 Thread Ankur Banerjee
OK, here's what I do:

1. System > Assistive Technologies
2. Check 'Enable assistive technologies'
3. Under Preferences, click on Keyboard Accessibility button
4. Check the box next to 'Simulate simultaneous keypresses', but _not_ the one
below it on 'Disable...'
5. Click 'Close' on both dialog boxes.

Sticky Keys gets activated for some time, and then gets deactivated
without any notification. On repeating the above steps, I find that the
checkbox next to assistive technologies is still checked, but on going
to keyboard accessibility, the one next to Sticky Keys is unchecked.

[Bug 58923] Knot2 Installer stalls at partitioner

2006-09-04 Thread Ankur Kotwal
Public bug reported:

The Knot2 Installer appears to stall at the partitioner stage. When it
first enters the partitioner first appear to have hung (the loading
cursor stops animating and moving my touchpad does not move the cursor.
After a while (say 10-15 seconds) the partitioner reports an error
stating "The resize operation is impossible". Then if I select "Manually
edit partition table" and select "Forward", I get the loading cursor and
nothing more. I've waited for quite some time for the parititioner to
continue but it does not. I am attaching the output of the command
"fdisk -l" as well as my syslog output (seems to indicate kernel crash).

[Bug 367895] [NEW] Volume gets reduced on its own for specific window placements

2009-04-27 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Public bug reported:

2. Check what level the internal volume control slider of Totem is at.
3. Move the window so that the left / right edge of Totem window touches left /
right edge of screen, and bottom edge of Totem window touches bottom of screen

4. After moving the window to said position, click on Totem's internal volume

[Bug 367898] [NEW] Seahorse stops responding if incorrect passphrase is entered for PGP key

2009-04-27 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

1. Open Seahorse (Accessories > Password and Encryption Keys).
2. Right click on any PGP key, choose Properties. Click on 'Change Passphrase'.
3. Enter any incorrect passphrase three times. After this, Seahorse password
dialog will no longer be displayed.
4. Click on 'Change Passphrase' again. A 'Password' dialog box will be
generated, but won't get focus. Click on its taskbar entry to give it focus.
5. Start typing a passphrase - incorrect or correct.
6. Seahorse, password dialog box stops responding. If you have 'Force Quit'
button in panel, clicking on it doesn't work. Start gnome-system-monitor to
kill the process, and you won't be able to scroll the list. Start a terminal,
and you won't be able to type anything. Click on username in notification area
to shutdown, and the menu won't be shown. Whole system stops responding.
Minimise any other currently running application, then try to maximise them
again - you won't be able to. Trying to right click taskbar entry to close an
application doesn't show the context menu either.
7. The only thing you _can_ do is to kill using the power switch. I'd tried
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, didnt work.

So entering wrong passphrases in Seahorse locks up the whole system.
Checked in Ubuntu 8.10, but may exist in 9.04 too.

[Bug 368048] Re: Cannot access some websites

2009-04-28 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Thanks for the update. Appreciate the time you're taking to report this
issue. I tried reproducing the error, but I can access
www.ubuntugeek.com and also open links with emails. Try this. Install
Epiphany from Add/Remove, and then see if you can access the sites that
you can't right now. If you can't access it using any other browser
either, then it's probably some issue with your ISP. If you _can_ access
using Epiphany, then we'll have to check for any issues with Firefox.

[Bug 368048] Re: Cannot access some websites

2009-04-28 Thread Ankur Banerjee
This isn't a bug in the package as filed by the bug reporters, probably
an issue with the ISP. Bug reporter encounters same problem with other
browsers too. Converting this bug report to a question so that it can
get attention at a more appropriate forum.
