[Bug 1379531] Re: "Combine sides" should be "combine pages"?
My memory's a little fuzzy on the matter, so do excuse me if I'm about to write a load of nonsense, but I remember coming across this a few years ago, and in the end left it be for English UK for lack of certainty. At the time I remember considering the concept - Imagine you are scanning a document into a pdf with 6 A4 'sides' (3 sheets of paper) but they are numbered within like: frontpage, index, page 1, page 2, page 3 and page 4. On your 3rd sheet of paper, page 4 (of the work) is actually on side 6. Without digging into it back then, I presumed the strings were intentionally written in as they were to account for the non- interchangeablity between the three terms. Each sheet is made up of a front side and a back side of course, and you may find yourself wishing to combine different sides (e.g. sides 3-6 inclusive in the example above contain the actually information, which is equivalent to asking for 'pages 1 - 4'?) Alternatively, whether 'page' was used to mean 'sheet' instead, I can't recall. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1379531 Title: "Combine sides" should be "combine pages"? [Bug 1732222] Re: Language support not installed matching locale
Actually, this bug might be for gnome-language-selector. If you have a look at your regional and language settings, it seems that so long as your chosen language is any variant of english, it suggests to install all the available language stuff (including libreoffice files) for ALL english possibilities. For example, I've already got most of the en-gb ones installed already on an as-needed basis, and it's telling me to install the following or to remind it later: gimp-help-en libreoffice-help-en-us hunspell-en-ca hyphen-en-ca hyphen-en-gb mythes-en-au hunspell-en-us wamerican libreoffice-help-en-gb mythes-en-us libreoffice-l10n-en-za hunspell-en-au hyphen-en-us hunspell-en-za I'm not sure there's really an issue here...other than the language- selector is perhaps not pushy enough that you should install some more of the packages for en-gb. Noone wants it getting annoying, and you _are_ free to install en-gb packages later? I guess that since english US (default) is still understandable to an English UK reader, this was never considered critical. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173 Title: Language support not installed matching locale To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-pack-en/+bug/173/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1732222] Re: Language support not installed matching locale
Perhaps this bug report is meant for the ubiquity ubuntu installer? If I understand correctly, the issue is that the user only gets one chance to install the corresponding locale packages for their chosen locale during first setup of ubuntu, and not again until they do it manually after ubuntu's been installed? Or is it that some packages are not being installed automatically after choosing English UK? Doesn't it try to install as many relevant packages as it can already? Would the ideal behaviour be 'user selects locale as British English (UK), therefore install all related packages like: libreoffice-help-en-gb, libreoffice-l10n-en-gb, myspell-en-gb, hunspell-en-gb during setup automatically? Just to confirm - these packages are included in the .iso locally, so they wouldn't require an internet connection during first setup? [Bug 1717769] Re: day of week in german despite i configured the system in english
Hi Nicolas, thanks for the bug report. On quick inspection, I can't see why this is happening. Occasionally, native german speakers will accidentally translate strings that are supposed to be under 'english (US/GB/CA/AU)' into German, however, as this affects English US (the default language that is taken as-is without any intervention from translators on launchpad's side - i.e. as the developers originally wrote the strings), English US should be ok. I also can't see anything in indicator-datetime that has been accidentally uploaded in German to begin with? Are you missing any required locale packages? If it's not accepting English US for some strange reason, could you try uninstalling any German locale packages (language-pack-de and language-pack-de-base) (perhaps also language-pack-gnome-de and language-pack-gnome-de-base to be safe) and be sure you have the "en" equivalents. Not sure why it isn't configuring the language properly. Failing that, what happens if you switch your language to English UK? I can personally vouch for English UK being fine as our team gets every single string finished for the next ubuntu release, so everything's been checked over (almost certainly by yours truly ;) ) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717769 Title: day of week in german despite i configured the system in english To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-pack-en/+bug/1717769/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(i.e. string 8) and also the "1" in "1 Livepatch update failed to apply since the last restart." (i.e. string 9) to "%d" instead. [Bug 1530213] Re: Kubuntu-Frontend: Translation strings for wily and xenial (updated strings for translation needed)

[Bug 1530213] [NEW] no unique strings for wily and xenial (updates to translation files needed)
Public bug reported: Hi there! 2 issues: 1) Noticed the next translation strings need to be bumped for xenial (and one or two don't make sense for wily either!) i.e. https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/ubiquity- slideshow-ubuntu/+pots/ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu/en_GB/45/+translate "Thank you for choosing Kubuntu 15.04. We hope you enjoy the experience." at the moment, there's only the one string that carries over, so setting that to '15.10' or '16.04' for wily or xenial sets it to that for all ubuntu versions being worked on. Obviously, there should be a unique one for each version. 2) Also related is this issue: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/+pots/ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu/en_GB/8/+translate for new strings in xenial, what is "KDE Software Compilation" now, officially? "KDE KF5 Applications" and "KDE Applications Frameworks" have been some suggestions, but that doesn't read well and the new name change needs to make it into the new strings too. [Bug 1239260] [NEW] Set transparent parts of images to white by default, not 'check pattern'.
Public bug reported: If you download an image off say, Wikipedia, it's probably a .png. When this comes to your computer and you open it with eog, by default it will have a horrible checkered pattern on it (because the background for these images is 'transparent') and this checkered pattern makes things totally unreadable (e.g. chemistry reaction mechanisms). The solution is to view the image with eog and go to Edit - Preferences and set the transparent parts to be a custom colour (white) to have a white background. I propose that by default, the transparent parts should be set to appear white so images get a nice, standard white background which makes things LEGIBLE rather than the current checkered style which isn't helping anyone. (What a nightmare for users trying to open a PNG and being met by a checkered pattern that they swear wasn't there when they downloaded it. I went through quite some time wondering if i should convert the PNG to another format like SVG to get rid of it, but the problem is on the image viewing end, not the image itself. Small update. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-langpack/+archive/ppa builds the latest language translations twice a week into this ppa and then they get pushed to each ubuntu 'backports' directory on the server, according to an agreed on schedule (which didn't look very clear cut to me at 1 in the morning XD) Long story short - the changes i've made will come much sooner than i thought, you can add that ppa and update anytime after the next package version is built there (which could be in the next few days!?) and you'll never be bothered by this again ...in ubuntu lol (I hope this bug doesn't linger on for those who don't use launchpad to organise their translations!) ** Changed in: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205087 Title: Gnome-system-monitor needs translation item 19 Sent to read Sending instead. [Bug 144334] Re: Rythmbox should scan for new music on start by default
As it is, adding files to /Music (the default Music checking location) and then opening Rhythmbox DOES get them discovered by default now. I'm pretty sure this has been the case for a while now. Having an option available to decide whether or not to do this scanning for new files added on rhythmbox startup is miles better than having no choice in the matter. I would strongly advise against removing customisability. [Bug 655278] Re: It should be more clear that Shotwell maintains its own Trash
I too would like to see them unified. In the meantime, however, i'm currently correcting these strings for en_GB, en_CA and en_AU. We call the bin on the desktop the Rubbish Bin (this is true for en_gb, i'm not sure how much it spread from our team's work), and i've tweaked shotwell to have its bin be called Shotwell's Bin (which is reasonably short and to the point). These updates will be in Saucy by default and the other series releases when their lang packs are updated. Should you wish to have your lang pack updated before this, there is a ppa updated regularly which can be added with: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-langpack/ppa and updating and upgrading. This bug may be consideredhalf done. This will no longer be an issue for (most? all?) english locale users once the lang packs update, but the route cause of the problem means that shotwell must get rid of it's bin and send deleted images to the default bin. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655278 Title: It should be more clear that Shotwell maintains its own Trash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/655278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 655278] Re: It should be more clear that Shotwell maintains its own Trash
its* yikes, my spelling tonight. That should do it on my end. The majority of english locale users are on en_GB, en_CA or en_AU (i'm not even sure if there are translation teams on launchpad to handle the rest?) so now australian and british users can look forward to Shotwell's Bin and Canadian users Shotwell's Trash (i'm sure 'garbage' might have been more appropriate but this is a stop gap measure for the time being). Canadian english translations really don't get a lot of TLC, but en_CA locale users are welcome to take a more direct role if they want more ideal phrasing.

I'm surprised this is still happening? I can't seem to reproduce this at all anymore. I fired everything up a few hours ago, and try as i did to scan, stop suddenly, delete it or start scanning again, whatever i tried...it slowly got on with the next job i set and all with no crashes. :) I find following the code itself incredibly difficult (and not just because i'm not used to vala lol), but i thought i'd be helpful and build it with clang to look for outstanding errors (really i was trying to look for some sort of obvious deletion of an already deleted entity. [Bug 635023] Re: firefox plugin-container using 99% CPU - overheating and lock-up
If this is still an issue for anyone who is running the latest and greatest version of Firefox etc and has stumbled upon this needing a quick tip, there is a bit of a messy workaround for this issue: The plugin-container is designed to contain crashes from plugins like flash and stop them from crashing the browser along with them. Flash may crash even nowadays (I find it surprising given how long it's been out and how employed it still is! It is still being updated now and then and html5 has yet to be fully implemented across youtube etc (usually because of it impeding advertisements)). The plugin container can be disabled if you are prepared for the chance that a stray flash application can inadvertently crash and take the browser with it (annoying), by doing this: Go to the page about:config in firefox Search for a boolean entry named dom.ipc.plugins.enabled and double-click it or otherwise change it so that it reads 'false' instead of 'true'. The next time firefox is started (close it and open it back up or restart it - there's an addon called restartless restart which is amazing for this), the plugin container will be long gone. Set the entry back to true to reenable the container, but if you're prepared for the possibility of grief from crashing or you never bother with flash things anyway, then perhaps this will be useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/635023 Title: firefox plugin-container using 99% CPU - overheating and lock-up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/635023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1094774 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094774 Oh i see now - of course. The #x27; part literally comes from an apostrophe needed in the string. I had a look into the original source translation files, e.g. msgid Downloading metadata from %1$'d peer (%2$d%% done) so the way around launchpad's complaining is to place an apostrophe when you see #x27; and then it will appear as desired. Yeah, it seems i got my hopes up too soon when i read the phoronix article: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTI4MDE After nearly half a year, the new driver for 'legacy' users i.e. my gpu was made 3 years ago (ancient i know!), has been released and it seems to be purely for fixes related to playing games on steam. [Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration
Bug also occurs on the default version of gnome-sudoku in precise (3.4.1-0ubuntu1) as well as precise-updates version (3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1). Bug occurs if you remove packages gir1.2-launchpadintegration-3.0 and launchpad-integration and try to open gnome-sudoku - since these packages are installed by default, users who haven't removed them will not come across this problem but those that do will be unable to open gnome-sudoku. I have a patch suggestion but i'd appreciate it if someone could give it a look over. 1) Edit main.py which resides in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist- packages/gnome_sudoku/main.py when installed. 2) Delete line 9 containing from gi.repository import LaunchpadIntegration - it only seems to be used by the setup_gui() function on line 171 and there doesn't appear to be any harm in doing so. 3) Change the setup_gui() function on line 171 to the following (or similar): http://pastie.org/4720780 (I've left some comments - for example, does gnome-sudoku actually have an error log to write to? Printing 'launchpad integration error' or similar to the terminal would suffice i think. At the very least, at least the program will actually run now!) Launchpad integration is added via a patch called 01_lpi.patch in (for example) gnome-games_3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1.debian.tar.gz in folder /debian/patches from lines 132-159. and that's where the true bug lies because the code that it adds to gnome-sudoku should be more like what i've suggested above in comment 3. [Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration
Right then, let's see now. Had a look at all the games listed under the patch: glchess gnect gnibbles gnobots2 gnome-sudoku gnotski gtali glines gnomine iagno lightsoff mahjonng quadrapassel and this whole 'launchpad integration' bug seems to only be affecting gnome-sudoku because all the others run fine even without the 2 affecting packages ('launchpad-integration' and 'gir1.2-launchpad- integration-3.0') I've therefore used Meld to output the difference between an unpatched main.py (before any LPI patch hits it) and the changes i posted above in comment 3 which check for launchpad-integration, output an error if it can't find anything, but run the program nonetheless. At least now it's not show stopping. Regarding this new 01_LPI.patch - only the contents between lines 132 and 157 need to be changed but i'm not 100% sure i've done it right, so i'd appreciate it if you could give it a once over lol. The python indentation of my revised main.py runs smoothly without indentation errors but the way it looks on the patch looks a bit sketchy: Is it OK? I'm also a bit confused why gnome-games 3.4.1 has 'gnome-games-3.3.91' in the 01_LPI.patch used, but i'm new to .diff and .patch files (still learning lol). I checked and the patch in question has not changed between gnome-games 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 (Precise) and 3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1 (Precise updates). If this new patch is used instead when building, gnome-sudoku should check for launchpad integration and run :D ** Patch added: new LPI patch.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/1050063/+attachment/3315544/+files/new%20LPI%20patch.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050063 Title: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/1050063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 843361] Re: missing signal disconnect: simple-scan crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()
I've got to say, judging by the code in the revisions mentioned in comment 39, this bug is very likely squashed now. I'd like to build simple-scan from source and be 100% sure, but i'm having difficulty 'make'ing the package. Looking forward to the next .deb release of simple-scan anyway, because this was one VERY annoying issue that needed to be solved since it first cropped up for me about a year ago. I assume quantal will be getting a new version soon enough but i really hope that the revisions land back in precise etc as well. [Bug 843361] Re: missing signal disconnect: simple-scan crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()
well, i grabbed the latest code from the trunk bzr branch and i was hoping to follow this (found these instructions on an unrelated simple- scan bug here on launchpad.net) $ sudo apt-get build-dep simple-scan $ ./autogen.sh --prefix=`pwd`/install $ make $ make install $ ./src/simple-scan Problem is that the first 2 steps are ok, and then i do ./configure, but when i then do make there are 5 errors in the vala code preventing it from compiling properly. (See attached .txt file below) Is it that i'm missing a specific package that wasn't pulled in?
