[Bug 665815] Re: firefox oops this is embarrassing
I have experienced similar problems on Ubuntu since 9.04 (now on 10.10) on several different machines, even after clean installs and subsequent updates+upgrades. The problem is certainly around the interaction of Firefox online/offline handling, Network Manager, and Gnome session handling of power, hibernate, suspend. [Bug 479878] Re: Need an option to disable touchpad completely
I also believe that improved control of touchpads in laptops/netbooks etc is necessary. But NOT disabling the trackpad/touchpad completely! Here are a few reflections and suggestions: 1) In my opinion the most logigical move is automatic disabling the touchpad while typing with a user-defined TIME DELAY. If the delay is long then the disabling is also effective for users that wish a complete disable, but has the advantage of returning automatically to full functionality. If the user continues typing the trackpad is simply disabled during that time plus the delay. 2) This could be extended by the option of disabling the touchpad if and only if an external pointing device is present. 3) But I dislike permanent disabling of the trackpad since it is eventually useful for very few but may create many problems for a majority of users! WARNING: Once you click and confirm the disable trackpad option, then the user would have no pointing device! This type of disable all option probably creates problems for users that learn by actively experimenting with settings. 4) These GUI functions should be integrated into gnome-settings and not handled by separate packages 5) Automatic installation of relevant packages on laptops etc would be very good. -- Need an option to disable touchpad completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479878 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 409086] Re: Disable touchpad while typing: make time configurable via gconf-key
I agree that the delay length should be configurable by the user. In the meanwhile, before the problem is solved, it is good to note that the present value of half a second delay is too short. Yes, I confirm that this problem is still present on the final release of Lucid. [Bug 296396] Re: Integrate Lock screen and Login screen functionality
The flow around login, logout, screenlock, userswitch, power off etc is very confusing for less-experienced users. The flow has to be unified and simplified and also integrated with poweroff, suspend, and hibernate. Furthermore automatic logout is necessary when running multi-user and systems for professional applications. With the present implementation users have to keep track of a lot of buttons, many different screens, and several states and conditions. [Bug 286859] Re: [0.7] [3G] PIN secret invalid even though PIN is correct
I confirm this on Ubuntu 8.10. N-M keeps asking for PIN and PUK codes although the SIM is unlocked. Please give me a hint on how to tweak the ppp and chat scripts used with N-M? Thanks, /AMIII PS: I am having problems with Network Manager and a Huawei E600 (PCMCIA) for mobile internet connections through 3G. It is recognized as E620 and the connection process is stuck at a PIN question for an unlocked SIM card. Some reference information N-M 0.7~~svn20081018... [Bug 190815] Re: cannot create user when the /home directory already exist
I also confirm the problem, that happens to have a high significance for us: We keep the home directories and the system on different partitions in order to preserve user data after system maintenance and upgrades. User data has a much longer life than the present version of the operating system. Thus in our opinion real world applications require a mechanism for adding existing users and keeping existing data. -- cannot create user when the /home directory already exist https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190815 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 144230] [Gutsy Tribe 5] Existing partitions are not detected
Public bug reported: The partitioner fails to detect any existing partitions. The only alternative on manual partitioning is to erase the whole disk. I could not proceed the installation and test. This is a very serious problem for regular users since it erases the partition table and causes a complete loss of all data on the computer. REMARKS: This bug might be related to other partitioning problems such as 138156 or 130124. The problem was experienced while testing Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5 alternate install on a Linux-friendly laptop Sony Vaio VGN-B1XP. This particular computer has been extensively tested with several Linux distributions and with other releases of Ubuntu without any issues on partitioning or disk handling. (But I have to confess that I did not test yet how it feels to erase all data on the computer, perhaps I may experience this in the future.) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gutsy partition ** Description changed: The partitioner fails to detect any existing partitions. [Bug 85010] Re: Opens in offline mode
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 82335 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82335 I confirm this bug . Evolution opens in offline mode with an internet connection established through ppp for a GSM 3rd generation modem (mobile internet). This can be very SERIOUS FOR BUSINESS USERS because it prevents email from working as expected. This is relevant for laptops with GSM 3G mobile intenet, that are becoming common here in Sweden and probably also elsewhere in Europe. NOT BEING ABLE TO SEND EMAIL IS INDEED VERY BAD, so the importance level should be increased. This does not happen through direct cable nor Wi-Fi wireless connections. [Bug 72262] Re: Form Wizard in Base does not complete
Irritating bug confirmed. For less experienced users this bug seem to block completely the use of OO Base, the importance/severity should be higher. The most common use case for less experienced users is generating a simple database application with help of the wizards. I will run to the forum to find a workaround. So far I fear that installation of the latest stuff from OO.org will break other things. -- Form Wizard in Base does not complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/72262 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I confirm that OpenOffice crashed repeatedly on Edgy. It scared me, but eventually it worked again efter I purged and reinstalled OO, removed the user registry on my home catalog and restarted the system. I also crossed my fingers while starting my favorite office suite but confess that I did not say a prayer. [Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...
I confirm similar problems (no shutdown) for Dapper on three machines that worked previously with Breezy: 1) Pentum III, Dapper Server -server kernel 2) Pentium III, Dapper Desktop after upgrade to -686 kernel 3) Pentium II, Dapper Laptop -686 kernel The problem with the server is serious since it may require physical access to the machine upon system restarts. Clearly not acceptable upon remote headless server operation. Equaly irritating is to experience completely drained batteries on a laptop since it did not power off properly. I really appreciate very much Ubuntu Linux and hope that finding a solution for this problem gets high priority. Power off works OK with the 686 kernel on another laptop, my Sony Vaio VGN B1XP, but suspend and hibernate are less reliable. I could post data for the five systems upon request but will not include this info to save space on the launchpad. -- Power down after shutdown does not work... https://launchpad.net/bugs/43961 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52017] Re: changing settings (like paper size) have no effect in CUPS
I have experienced similar problems with gnome-cups-manager and cups when printing from clients: wrong size for testpages (Letter instead of A4) while using the print a testpage from a client using the gnome-cups-manager. A similar testpage printed with the cups web-interface has the correct size. This potential bug is probably only observed in a cups client/server arrangement where A4 is used as standard. I did not observe the problem while printing testpages on the same machine (the server). For us this bug is of reasonably high importance since wrong page sizes are not acceptable in a business envinronment. It is visible and gives a bad impression for new linux users. I am presently preparing the deployment of packages for small businesses containing ubuntu desktops and servers. I would be very thankful for any suggestions that could help us to solve that problem. /Macchi -- changing settings (like paper size) have no effect in CUPS https://launchpad.net/bugs/52017 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49840] Re: Gcompris administration menu not working
The Gcompris administration tool does't work for me on fresh Dapper installs. This is a pity since it reduces the possibility to adapt the activities according to the age, skills and interests of children. Is there a time frame for fixing the bug or creating a straightforward workaround suitable for non technical people? A friend of mine is a school teacher at an elementary school willing to use Gcompris on Ubuntu experimentally. This means several dozen of young users missing the chance to discover and learn Gcompris and Ubuntu. By the way: The menu entries are filed on Games and unfortunately not on Education where I believe it would be much more suitable for Gcompris. -- Gcompris administration menu not working https://launchpad.net/bugs/49840 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
