[Bug 2064738] Re: Bluetooth headphones sound crackling randomly for ~3 seconds.

2024-05-06 Thread Antti
24.04 chose as default aptX-LL and I changed it to SBC-XQ codec. With
this I haven't had any issues after change. Sounds to my ear as good,
but I don't have audiophile hearing. Headphones in my use are Valco
VMK20.

[Bug 2063970] Re: Enhanced tiling orange shading that indicates what a window will resize to will persist even after I'm done with the adjustment.

2024-05-05 Thread Antti
I were able to replicate that click next to clock bug. When there are no
other windows open it will flash the desktop icons on top of the opened
window. Took video of the bug: https://youtu.be/Plzwj0K5sQ0

With "gnome-extensions disable tiling-assist...@ubuntu.com" I had few
days without any hiccups but I didn't have super+up or super+down window
size control, only super+left and super+right. I enabled enhanced window
control again from settings->Ubuntu Desktop and had those controls come
back. I replicated and recorded these bugs after that and noticed that
enhanced window control menu had dissapeared from the settings.

With Firefox this orange shading came up just by clicking on web page
content middle of the screen.

[Bug 2061376] Re: Touchpad scroll bounces back 22.04.4

2024-04-30 Thread Antti
I can replicate it in Noble 24.04 Vim, Text editor and Firefox. Chrome
smoothens it out but still visible. LibreOffice Writer is slow and janky
in normal scrolling so I didn't see visually it there (this bad
scrolling in Writer would be an own bug itself). Firefox is most
prominent as touchpad scrolling is the most sensitive in it. Never
remember having it happen in Windows OS.

[Bug 2063970] Re: Enhanced tiling orange shading that indicates what a window will resize to will persist even after I'm done with the adjustment.

2024-04-30 Thread Antti
Do you also have resize animation shown twice? I had it on left, top, right
wrongly and correctly on bottom. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064146
With mouse drag I were able to replicate it.

[Bug 2064146] [NEW] Screen shows orange snap to place wrongly

2024-04-29 Thread Antti
Public bug reported:

I have "Active screen edge" -feature enabled.
First bug:
I had 2 instances of transparent orange snap to place appear for no reason in a
strange place.
Second bug:
I have transparent orange snap to place appear twice when trying to snap window
to left, top and right. Bottom appears only once correctly. The animation is
also shown twice. Screen capture is not possible during this window snap so I
took photos on phone.

I think this affects all laptop touchpads.
I have Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 5 and Lenovo Thinkpad E15 Gen 2 which both
have this undesired scroll effect.

[Bug 2061376] [NEW] Touchpad scroll bounces back 22.04.4 Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen5

2024-04-15 Thread Antti
Public bug reported:

When scrolling anywhere using 2 fingers the scroll bounces back if
fingers are lifted up from touchpad. Soft finger point muscles have some
flex to them and I strongly believe this causes the scroll bounce back.
Easily repeated to both directions. In bounce scroll rapidly moves to
the opposite direction of where user wanted to scroll when lifting up
fingers.

2021-06-10 Thread Antti Aku-Petteri Tuorila
@koba
I just started my laptop and the touchpad suddenly has started working now!?
It is also recognized in devices.
I didn't try your latest suggestion yet.
Should I upload something for future troubleshooting?

[Bug 1931288] [NEW] Touchpad doesn't work in 'Ideapad 5 14ALC05' after OS installation restart.

2021-06-08 Thread Antti Aku-Petteri Tuorila
Public bug reported:

Started Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS installation right after receiving my new 'Lenovo
Ideapad 5 14ALC05'.
Everything worked fine during installation.
However, after the installations restart, touchpad doesn't work at all.
Keyboard and other peripherals like wireless mouse work fine.
Running 'cat /proc/bus/input/devices' and 'xinput' it seems that the touchpad
isn't recognized.

[Bug 1798656] Re: gtk3 frontend gives no widget for answering a boolean prompt

2021-01-18 Thread Antti Hätinen
I also experience this problem on Ubuntu Xenial. The prompt is:

 ┌───┤ Configuring
docker.io ├┐
  │
   │
│ If Docker is upgraded without restarting the Docker daemon, Docker will
often have trouble starting new containers, and in some cases even │
│ maintaining the containers it is currently running. See
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1658691 for an example of this breakage.
   │
  │
   │
│ Normally, upgrading the package would simply restart the associated
daemon(s). In the case of the Docker daemon, that would also imply │
│ stopping all running containers (which will only be restarted if they're
part of a "service", have an appropriate restart policy configured, │
│ or have some other means of being restarted such as an external systemd
unit). │

   │
  │
   │

It's seems to be not configurable by dpkg --set-selections:

root@server# dpkg --get-selections docker.io
docker.io install

I could upload a vagrant box to demonstrate this issue when running apt-
get upgrade -y. I try to automate the upgrade process, but this atm
blocks the upgrade and CI pipelines with interactive prompt. I'm also
trying to build a workaround wrapper with expect.

[Bug 1873641] Re: pulseaudio says: ALSA woke us up to write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing to write.

2020-05-19 Thread Antti Palsola
I got the sound working after trying the following fixes stated in
:
- sudo alsa force-reload
- sudo apt install pavucontrol
- sudo apt install alsa-tools-gui and setting jack_detect = no
- timidity-daemon was already not installed

[Bug 1873641] Re: pulseaudio says: ALSA woke us up to write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing to write.

2020-05-19 Thread Antti Palsola
This happens also to me with my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (yes, I know it
is an old device but it has worked until now) after upgrading from
Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04 LTS. (Did not have any issues with 19.10.) My
motherboard is Asus Prime X570-P AM4.

I confirm this. Running any Ansible playbook displays the following
warning on every task which is quite annoying:

  3. Reboot

[Bug 1823037] Re: amd_iommu possible data corruption

2019-04-23 Thread Antti Tönkyrä
Confirming that I was unable to reproduce the issue on linux-
image-4.15.0-46-generic (4.15.0-46.49) from the test kernels repository
with my test setup.

Previously I was able to cause filesystem corruption within 1 hour of
testing under a test load (verified by btrfs checksums) across all disks
on 2 different 32-core systems.

[Bug 1506817] Re: left TPP/2 IBM TrackPoint "sticks on" randomly (X250 15.04)

2018-09-29 Thread Antti P Miettinen
Running bionic with 4.15.0-34-generic on T460s, a pretty good repro for
me is

1. Place two fingers on the touchpad
2. Try to press a button while keeping two fingers on the touchpad

For me, evtest reports of button events get very erratic when two
fingers are kept on the touchpad. When I do not touch the touchpad,
evtest reports seem solid.

I have disabled the touchpad as it interferes with my typing, but the
state of this setting does not seem to have an effect. The "two fingers
on touchpad" probably gets emulated by e.g. my wrist touching the
touchpad.

For me the bug interferes mostly with browser use as I use middle button
scroll and very often e.g. middle down gets lost and the attempt to
scroll does not scroll, or a middle up gets lost and then pointer is
stuck in scroll mode.

To me it looks like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rapidsvn/+bug/402892 is about
the same issue.

[Bug 1762113] Re: Tools no longer work against hardware TPM device on e.g. Intel NUC's tpm_crb driver on recent kernels

2018-04-10 Thread Antti S. Lankila
I'm adding a comment here as I have new information. I discovered a
tpm_crb-driven tpm implementation on a laptop running Bionic (ASUS
ZenBook UX360CAK). Now that I happened to test tpm2-tools on it, I
discovered that:

- tpm2_getrandom worked on it,
- tpm2_listpcrs also worked.

The /dev/tpm0 device behaves as it used to, e.g. writing a command
request sends back a response, not an echo of the request. Therefore, I
am making the following conclusions:

- tpm2-tools itself is fine,
- tpm_crb driver per se is probably fine, though there likely is a bug in linux
kernel somewhere,
- /dev/tpm0 is still programmed the same way, by writing requests and reading
responses.

The target hardware where things still don't work is an Intel NUC 6CAYB.

[Bug 1762113] [NEW] Tools no longer work against hardware TPM device on e.g. Intel NUC's tpm_crb driver on recent kernels

2018-04-07 Thread Antti S. Lankila
Public bug reported:

Executing something like this should cause the TPM to return 4 bytes of
random data:

$ sudo strace tpm2_getrandom -T device 4

strace shows that this happens instead:

openat(AT_FDCWD, "/dev/tpm0", O_RDWR) = 3
write(3, "\200\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\1{\0\4", 12) = 12
read(3, "\200\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\1{\0\4", 4096) = 12

e.g. writing a command to TPM seems to cause it to just echo the written
command back, rather than the TPM's actual response for this command.
This is not how it used to work in 16.04. This behavior is not expected
by the tools, which parse this as a TPM error:

ERROR: TPM2_GetRandom Error. TPM Error:0x17b

However, we haven't seen the response yet, so we can't determine if TPM
had an error processing the command. It's just a broken assumption made
by the TPM interface library that the read() after command gives the
response's data rather than the request's data. All other TPM commands
fail similarly for this reason. (For what it's worth, there identical
problem with the tss2 package, which provides an alternative suite of
TPM 2.0 related tools.)

This used to work on the 4.10 kernel from 16.04. It was already broken
on the Hardware Enablement 16.04 kernel that's based on 4.13, so there
must have been some change in kernel that has broken this between 4.11
to 4.13 releases. I was deferring writing this bug until I managed to
test it on 4.15, but alas, the tools don't work there either.

The big change in kernel seems to be that a TPM in-kernel resource
manager has been added. The resource manager's point is to allow
multiple processes to use TPM concurrently. It is unclear to me whether
this also implies changes to the way the tpm0 device should work. I am
in fact having really hard time finding any documentation of the tpm0
interface, so I can't even confirm if this programming API's apparent
change has been intended or not. I am currently assuming that kernel is
working properly and it's the tools that must be updated to resolve the
problem, but it is also possible that this bug should be opened against
the kernel itself instead. It is conceivable that the issue is limited
to subset of TPM drivers. Unfortunately, the only hardware with TPM I
have available is based on tpm_crb driver on an Intel NUC, so I can't
test if the tools would work on some other hardware implementation.

Regarding the resource manager, trying the commands against the
resource-managed TPM device makes no difference in the result:

$ sudo strace tpm2_getrandom -T device -d /dev/tpmrm0 4
...
openat(AT_FDCWD, "/dev/tpmrm0", O_RDWR) = 3
write(3, "\200\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\1{\0\4", 12) = 12
read(3, "\200\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\1{\0\4", 4096) = 12

This signature matches with ehoover's (#11) and I had exactly the same error on

[Bug 1739631] Re: Fresh install with JDK 9 can't use the generated PKCS12 cacerts keystore file

2018-02-01 Thread Antti S. Lankila
To comment #5: If what you describe is true, then that is a different
bug, somehow. The default cacerts file should be in pkcs12 format, which
can't be used by java for some reason. The JKS keystore file can be
read, regardless of the keystore type setting in the security file.

However, I am happy about the suggestion to change the keystore.type=jks
parameter in the java.security file. Once this change has been made,
openjdk-9 can also generate JKS keystores from "udpate-ca-certificates
-f" and that is altogether simpler way to recover from this bug than
installing JDK 8, let it generate keystore, and then update to JDK 9
that preserves the cacerts in JKS format regardless of the settings of
JDK 9.

So here are the workaround steps that can be done instead, to fix TLS
for Java 9 when the keystore type happens to be PKCS12.

1. edit /etc/java-9-openjdk/security/java.security file. Find the line
that says keystore.type = pkcs12 and change that to jks

2. rm /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts file

3. run "update-ca-certificates -f"

[Bug 1739631] Re: Fresh install with JDK 9 can't use the generated PKCS12 cacerts keystore file

2018-01-29 Thread Antti S. Lankila
While it may be so that OpenJDK ships with empty certificates file, this
is not sufficient to explain the issue, or consistent with the bug
report I made. Quoting from the original bug report: "I discovered that
the JDK's lib/security/cacerts is a symlink to
/etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts, which is provided by ca-certificates-java
package".

This symlink exists, and it is the one used by JDK. The issue was that
JDK9 is unable to read the contents of PKCS12-formatted keystore file,
but is able to read its old JKS keystore file. In both cases, the files
do contain certificates.

[Bug 1739631] [NEW] Fresh install with JDK 9 can't use the generated PKCS12 cacerts keystore file

2017-12-21 Thread Antti S. Lankila
Public bug reported:

I ran into a problem after doing approximately the following on an
install of Ubuntu 17.10:

sudo apt-get install openjdk-9-jdk maven ca-certificates-java

Running "mvn package" on my own project threw this error without
downloading anything:

java.security.InvalidAlgorithmParameterException: the trustAnchors
parameter must be non-empty

It seems that all TLS connections fail due to missing trust anchors in
Java 9!

After some investigation, I discovered that the JDK's
lib/security/cacerts is a symlink to /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts, which
is provided by ca-certificates-java package. This file appeared to be a
PKCS12 file with password "changeit" protecting it. I was able to list
its contents using both keytool -list -cacerts and openssl pkcs12 -in
cacerts with that password, confirming that the file actually did hold
the certificates. Regardless, Java 9 was not able to use the contents of
this file for whatever reason.

To workaround the issue, I downgraded to openjdk-8-jdk, did rm
/etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts, then did update-ca-certificates -f, then
upgraded back to openjdk-9-jdk. The old Java 8 -generated JKS file with
empty string as password was usable in the Java 9, permitting mvn and
other things to make TLS connections again.

The problem can be reintroduced by having java 9 installed and doing rm
/etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts and then update-ca-certificates -f.

[Bug 1641592] [NEW] nano 2.5.3-2 on Xenial crashes with long paths on lockfiles

2016-11-14 Thread Antti Tönkyrä
Public bug reported:

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04
# apt-cache policy nano
nano:
  Installed: 2.5.3-2
  Candidate: 2.5.3-2

Reproducer:
1. # nano -G
999
2.
3. # nano -G
999
4.
5.

Quick dissection:
Looking at function do_lockfile in files.c, it seems that promptstr is
statically allocated to 128 characters. Now with a sufficiently long filename,
the following sprintf() call will overflow the allocated promptstr buffer and
corrupt memory.

** Affects: nano (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Summary changed:

- nano 2.5.3-2 on Xenial crashes when trying to access a lockfile
+ nano 2.5.3-2 on Xenial crashes with long paths on lockfiles

[Bug 1639544] [NEW] mpd ignores the "port" in config by default

2016-11-06 Thread Antti Laiti
Public bug reported:

mpd ignores the "port" and port section in "listen_to_address" in
configuration file by default, listens always to port 6600 and fails to
tell user about the situation. If I have 'bind_to_address
"192.168.0.1:16600"' or 'port "16600"' (or both) in my /etc/mpd.conf,
mpd just ignores them and listens to default port (6600).

# lsof|grep mpd|grep TCP
mpd 20791 mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
io20791 20793mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
player20791 20794mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
decoder:f 20791 20795mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)
output:Al 20791 20796mpd9u IPv4 269974 0t0
  TCP moot:6600 (LISTEN)

This is the only related thing I found from /var/log/mpd/mpd.log:
Nov 06 09:47 : zeroconf: No global port, disabling zeroconf
Googling that actually lead me to an URL(1) containing a solution.

To workaround the situation, I did:
systemctl disable mpd.socket
systemctl enable mpd.service
systemctl restart mpd.service

I have no idea whether that is a ideal solution or if it breaks
somethinge else. Anyway, I think the "port" and "bind_to_address"
options should work out of the box. I am also confused by the fact that
the default port was used instead of the one I specified and no errors
were shown in systemd or mpd logs about this fallback. The only thing
that was perhaps somehow related was this zeroconf thing. Example config
is attached.
