[Bug 1208582] Re: [Lubuntu 13.10] Wrong GPG-Key at openprinting.org
I agree with flickerfly - this completely broke installing my Xerox Phaser 3250 printer on Xubuntu. The gutenprint installation pop-up just sat there and with ps I saw two dpkg processes sitting there forever. If this can't be fixed in the 13.10 release, a work-around should be published so at least a solution can be found by googling. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208582 Title: [Lubuntu 13.10] Wrong GPG-Key at openprinting.org To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1208582/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 664968] Re: Maverick 10.10 Desktop i386 installer fails to boot from USB on Dell Mini 9
Nitesh, Thanks for your instructions. Unfortunately they didn't help in my case, see below for details. Based on all I've described, I'm curious to know if this is a genuine bug in the Maverick ISO image or usb-creator-gtk, or if my netbook or the USB stick is defective. I'll be happy to do further experiments and debugging to find out the reason for this behavior. $ sudo blkid /dev/sdb1: LABEL="MAVERICK" UUID="091E-1A5F" TYPE="vfat" (I set the label manually since it was gibberish after emptying the stick with usb-creator-gtk.) The directory /boot/grub.d didn't exist on the stick, there was just /boot/grub/loopback.cfg. I created /boot/grub.d/40_custom with the following content: menuentry "Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat" { set root=(hd0,1) linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic root=UUID=091E-1A5F ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-22-generic } Booting off the USB stick still drops me into Busybox. The boot menu still has the original five items. The stick doesn't contain /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic nor /boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-22-generic. Instead, there is a /casper directory with: -rwxr-xr-x 1 akaihola akaihola 38472 2010-10-23 11:45 filesystem.manifest -rwxr-xr-x 1 akaihola akaihola 36500 2010-10-23 11:45 filesystem.manifest-desktop -rwxr-xr-x 1 akaihola akaihola10 2010-10-23 11:45 filesystem.size -rwxr-xr-x 1 akaihola akaihola 692674560 2010-10-23 11:47 filesystem.squashfs -rwxr-xr-x 1 akaihola akaihola 11409807 2010-10-23 11:47 initrd.lz -rwxr-xr-x 1 akaihola akaihola 4289584 2010-10-23 11:47 vmlinuz The first item in /boot/grub/loopback.cfg is originally: menuentry "Try Ubuntu without installing" { linux /casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper iso-scan/filename=${iso_path} quiet splash -- initrd /casper/initrd.lz } I inserted a new first item: menuentry "Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat" { set root=(hd0,1) linux /casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper iso-scan/filename=${iso_path} root=UUID=091E-1A5F -- initrd /casper/initrd.lz } This didn't change the boot menu, and the stick still drops into Busybox. I also tried to tweak kernel options by hitting F6 in the boot menu and interactively inserting root=UUID=091E-1A5F or root=/dev/sdb1 into the kernel command line, but it had no effect. While in Busybox, ls /dev/sd* reveals that the partition on the stick indeed is /dev/sdb1. -- Maverick 10.10 Desktop i386 installer fails to boot from USB on Dell Mini 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/664968 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 664968] [NEW] Maverick 10.10 Desktop i386 installer fails to boot from USB on Dell Mini 9
Public bug reported: I downloaded the 32-bit Desktop Edition .ISO for Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 and created a bootable USB stick with usb-creator-gtk on a 10.04 laptop. The MD5 sum for the ISO image is 59d15a16ce90c8ee97fa7c211b7673a8 which matches the one listed in the MD5SUMS file for ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso. The stick booted fine on the laptop (HP Compaq nx6310) and I was able to install Maverick. However, on my Dell Mini 9 the stick doesn't boot at all. Here is what happens: - the "hit a key for options" icon is displayed at the bottom of the screen - I can access the main menu and modify options normally - when booting from the cd, the Ubuntu logo with dots below appears for a moment - sometimes the logo looks weird, as if displayed with characters in text mode - the exact appearance of the screen varies, e.g. sometimes the background is magenta - the netbook drops into busybox with the message: No init found. Try passing init= bootarg. I've tried all the provided boot options (acpi=off etc.) as well as "memmap=1K#0x7f80" which was mentioned in a forum thread which was about a different booting problem. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Maverick 10.10 Desktop i386 installer fails to boot from USB on Dell Mini 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/664968 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 516548] [NEW] Xorg freeze, screen flickering
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg During normal use (Emacs), for no apparent reason, both screens (netbook + external) go black with a blue-white approx. 10 px high stripe at the top with horizontal stripes flickering all around the screen. No response to mouse or keyboard, not even SysRq combinations. No messages in logs indicating any problems in the kernel or Xorg at the time of the freeze. This was the first freeze after upgrading to: - kernel 2.6.32-12-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP - xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu9 - xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu3 I've previously had freezes with no screen corruption: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/507813 but in those cases I always got stuff in the Xorg log as described in that bug. [Bug 509509] [NEW] non-default color theme corrupted after gnome-settings-daemon restart
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal In Lucid (up-to-date as of 2010-01-17, gnome-terminal 2.28.1-1ubuntu1), whenever gnome-settings-daemon dies, the color theme of open Gnome- Terminal sessions changes, as expected. The colors change to black on light gray (#dcdad5), which apparently is Gnome-Terminal's own default. One would expect the colors to change back when gnome-settings-daemon is started again. However, the colors don't change back to what is set in the profile. Instead I get a strange dark gray (#1a1a1a) on light pink (#e6ddd5) color theme. Selecting another color theme and switching back to the original in Profile Preferences does fix the colors back to normal. This is especially annoying as I've changed the default system color theme to the "Gray on black" built-in theme in Gnome-Terminal. In this case the colors are - gray on light gray after gnome-settings-daemon dies - gray on light pink after gnome-settings-daemon is restarted Due to this bug I've noticed that it's not rare for gnome-settings- daemon to restart. It does that when gnome packages are updated (very often at this point in Lucid), and sometimes for no apparent reason. Geir, I'm unsure if this is a "crash" or a "freeze". I verified that the crash/freeze occurs also when Gnome-Do is not running. I initially suspected it could be the cause since the symptom appeared shortly after I started using Gnome-Do, but today it happened without it. Also, this also happens when the computer is not idle for an extended time. [Bug 245219] Re: Ubuntu archive server returning incorrect content-encoding
I think this should be added to Apache's /etc/apache2/mods-available/mime.conf: AddType application/pgp-signature .gpg I tried this on my Debian Squeeze -based server and sure enough, .tar.gz.gpg files are now served with the application/pgp-signature content type. This needs to be tested though by creating an Ubuntu repository mirror and upgrading from it through a proxy. On the other hand, maybe a wrong Content-Type doesn't matter and the removal of the Content-Encoding header already fixed the issue. -- Ubuntu archive server returning incorrect content-encoding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245219 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 245219] Re: Ubuntu archive server returning incorrect content-encoding
Teej, as M. Vefa pointed out, the problem is not in the distribution but on the Ubuntu HTTP servers. The Content-Encoding header mentioned by Bob Drzyzgula in the original report seems to be gone now. However, Content-Type is now application/x-gzip which is incorrect for a PGP signature. I haven't tested upgrading through a proxy recently, but it's still possible that this header could break that. It looks like mod_mime matches extensions in the middle of a file name if the final extension is unknown. This explains why for files with a .tar.gz.gpg extension, the Ubuntu servers used to indicate a gzip encoding and a tar content type, and why they now return a gzip content type. Here is what the Ubuntu servers currently reply: $ wget -q --no-cache --save-headers http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy-proposed/main/dist-upgrader-all/0.87.31/hardy.tar.gz.gpg $ cat hardy.tar.gz.gpg HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sun, 17 Jan 2010 13:00:31 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) Last-Modified: Thu, 29 Jan 2009 15:38:41 GMT ETag: "bd-461a0e1fda240" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 189 Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: application/x-gzip -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBJgc2BQJdur0N9BbURAnhDAJwNh53DLg9jF8c3+dcjTKM+CnpK6gCggG9e 2Fi2CguhyGmEktTiVEQT4Hk= =5Ug/ -END PGP SIGNATURE- $ wget -q --no-cache --save-headers http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/dist-upgrader-all/0.131.3/lucid.tar.gz.gpg akaih...@morris:/tmp$ cat lucid.tar.gz.gpg HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sun, 17 Jan 2010 13:04:35 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) Last-Modified: Tue, 12 Jan 2010 19:27:03 GMT ETag: "bd-47cfca3780fc0" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 189 Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: application/x-gzip -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBLTM0HQJdur0N9BbURAgoQAJ9jwi/0EBi+Hd5VWivJ90SYhRFwsQCggxR/ Y2Z4yunLdiqmR9x2DrOUxM4= =tv7O -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- Ubuntu archive server returning incorrect content-encoding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245219 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Same symptoms: mouse does move the cursor, but clicks and keypresses don't work. What can I do to help? Try another kernel? Xorg-edgers? Enable some debugging? Here's what I have in Xorg.0.log.old this time (very similar to the original report): [4.261349] (II) intel(0): Allocate new frame buffer 2304x1024 stride 4096 [16053.373361] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [17604.404304] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [18024.045273] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [18867.025313] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [18916.719279] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [20287.880726] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [20293.022484] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [20703.308575] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [21076.152276] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [21497.107396] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [21535.265384] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [23279.885879] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [24075.847622] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [24177.042877] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F30D752BAEAAD4B8C79BE2C421539A0D3700902C.xkm [mi] EQ overflowing. [Bug 507813] [NEW] Xorg crash on an idle netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I had left my Dell Mini 9 open and switched on, and when I returned to it several hours later: - the mouse moved - no response to clicks - no response to typing - screen ok, no corruption - no Caps Lock blinking - no suspend/resume done after last power-up - I had Firefox, emacs-snapshot and the Gnome Terminal open. I killed X with Alt-SysRq-K. The log for the crashed session is in Xorg.0.log.old. I have connected a 1280x1024 LCD panel to the VGA connector and my desktop is extended there. I have disabled desktop effects. This is the first time I see this lock-up although I've left the netbook idle for several times during the two weeks I've been using Lucid. It seems that libdrm-intel and xorg (but not xserver-org-video-intel) got updated three days ago. I can't think of any other recent significant changes to the system. I have gnome-do running. The screensaver is set to empty screen in 5 minutes. [Bug 499754] Re: I can not edit menu entries in alacarte at random - Ubuntu Lucid (10.04)
On my Lucid Alpha 1 (clean install, up-to-date as of today) I can't find any menu items which would trigger the described error messages. ankspo71, was this a fresh install or an upgrade? You could take a look at /usr/share/desktop-directories and ~/.local/share/desktop-directories/ and verify that they contain files with the .directory extension. Do you get the exception also when trying to open properties of a launcher (not a folder)? If so, the exception should be a bit different. You could add the statement: print file_path above line 377 (and indented similarly to the surrounding lines) of /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/Alacarte/MainWindow.py and see what file paths Alacarte prints out when you click on the "Properties" button. It looks like some of the file names lack an extension and cause the exception you described. -- I can not edit menu entries in alacarte at random - Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
