2020-08-13 Thread Anupam Jayaraj
The problem is that when using the Ubuntu-provided packages, the screen
turns to butter milk like color or *paper white screen *after PC screen
wakes up from suspension
I am afraid of suspension because it compels me to force power off and
restart the OS is the only solution

I can't install a new image. I need to take whole lot of back up.

[Bug 1769823] Re: WiFi adapter not working after upgraded from 17.10 to 18.04

2018-05-09 Thread Anupam Datta
Hi, I had tried with 4.17. Things didn't change.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Description changed:

I tried with a separate WiFi adaptor, it worked. but not with this:
  Bus 003 Device 004: ID 0846:9043 NetGear, Inc. WNA1000Mv2 802.11bgn [Realtek
RTL8188CUS?]

I tried in another machine with 16.04 but that worked perfectly.
Disabled secure boot but still the problem is there.

[Bug 1736116] Re: Host with kernel 4.13 freezes when starting a VM with VirtualBox

2018-01-22 Thread ANUPAM MITRA
@ Lonnie Lee Best - I applied what you have suggested at #39. But when I
launched VirtualBox, it says as under:

RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912)

The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox.
The installation of VirtualBox was apparently not successful. Executing

'/sbin/vboxconfig'

may correct this. Make sure that you do not mix the OSE version and the
PUEL version of VirtualBox.

where: supR3HardenedMainInitRuntime what: 4
VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH (-1912) - The installed support driver
doesn't match the version of the user.

AND ALSO THE FOLLOWING:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7.

The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during
startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

[Bug 1722479] Re: Dock and panel are different opacity/transparency/colour

2017-11-03 Thread Anupam
To my bare eyes it seems the alpha level of top bar is ~0.3 whereas
alpha level of the dock is 0.2 by default when all windows are hidden. I
changed the the alpha level of the dock to 0.3 using dconf-editor and
now it seems they're pretty much consistent with each other.

[Bug 1588349] Re: Checking for updates never finishes on 3G when no updates available

2016-12-12 Thread Anupam
** Description changed:

If I'm using wi-fi and go to settings and then select updates, "Checking for
updates..." screen appears with a spinner for a few seconds; if there is any
update available it shows, otherwise informs about the unavailability of
updates.
But while using mobile data (3G/H) *if there is no update available*, it gets
stuck on the "Checking for updates..." screen and the spinner keeps spinning. I
waited as long as 10-15 minutes.
Note: If there is an update available then the behaviour is normal, i.e.
shows the available update(s) after a few seconds.
I'm seeing this behaviour from the very beginning (OTA-6 days).

  Related to bug #1528886
+
+ UPDATE: It's gotten weirder after the introduction of the new update
+ panel in OTA-13. When there is an update available, it keeps on

[Bug 1612367] Re: [Touch] Incoming call gets silent randomly

2016-12-09 Thread Anupam
Still present after OTA-14.
I noticed something new today. Got a call on 2016-12-09 at around 15:11 UTC,
there was not ringtone (but I answered the call). After ~2 minutes (at around
15:13 UTC), I got a text message but I didn't hear any sound alert. It is not
like bug #1544477, where *all* SMS and screenshots used to get silent until a
reboot.

[Bug 1612367] Re: [Touch] Incoming call gets silent randomly

2016-11-17 Thread Anupam
This part from the description of bug #1642635 sounds interesting:
"It seems to me that this is most likely to happen if I haven't used the phone
in a while. If I answer the call (because I notice the screen) or make a call,
testing immediately after the phone does seem to consistently ring."

I experienced the same. Once I couldn't pick up the call because of no
ringtone. Then I called the same person after ~5 minutes and asked them
to call me back in an attempt to reproduce the issue. They called after
~5 minutes, but that time the ringer worked fine. Also as I mentioned in
comment #18, I got two calls within ~1 minute. First one didn't ring,
but the second one rang.

[Bug 1612367] Re: [Touch] Incoming call gets silent randomly

2016-09-29 Thread Anupam
** Description changed:

I've experienced this strange issue 4-5 times after OTA-12. It seems pretty
random and is hard to reproduce.
When I get an incoming call, the screen turns on, the incoming call pop up
appears, but there is no sound at all even though the phone is not in silent
mode (and also the speaker volume is not set too low). I can accept this call
and keep conversing as usual.
Once I asked the same caller to call me once again after a few minutes, that
time the phone rang as expected.

  Device: E5, OTA-12, stable channel

I can provide necessary logs if this happens again. Which ones should I
  gather?

  Possibly related to bug #1614943.
+
+ UPDATE: As mentioned in comment #7, it seems the phone rings for a
+ fraction of a second and then the sound pauses abruptly.

[Bug 1628042] [NEW] Doesn't vibrate on incoming calls if "Other vibrations" not active

2016-09-27 Thread Anupam
Public bug reported:

Steps:
1. Set "Vibrate on ring" and "Vibrate in silent mode" active under "Ringtone"
in System settings > Sound.
2. Make sure "Other vibrations" is NOT active in System settings > Sound.
3. Get an incoming call.

Expected:
Phone vibrates.

What happens:
Phone doesn't vibrate. If the "Other vibrations" is set active, then the
vibration works.

Device: E5, stable, OTA-13.

[Bug 1607185] Re: It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you didn't want to

@Daniel Thanks for the explanation. I mistakenly thought it is marked so
because it requires more info from the users.

[Bug 1516696] Re: SMS notifications are received only when the phone is unlocked

2016-09-21 Thread Anupam
@Pat sorry, I didn't understand the technical details. My question: is
this applicable for SMS notifications only, or Telegram notifications
can also be delayed (till the next screen wake up) for the same/similar
reason? I sometimes have this problem with Telegram notifications, so
wondering whether the same issue or a different bug.

[Bug 1626085] [NEW] Requires double backspaces to delete other skin-tone emojis

2016-09-21 Thread Anupam
Public bug reported:

Steps:
1. Enter one emoji which is not of the primary skin tone (yellow) in any text
field, for example  (Thumbs Up Sign, Type-6, i.e. black skin tone).
2. Tap on the backspace key.

Expected:
The entered emoji gets deleted.

What happens:
The emoji turns into a primary colour (yellow) one (). Tap on the backspace
key once more, then it gets deleted.

This is actually not totally surprising as when one chooses a non-
primary skin tone, two characters are entered (the base emoji + the skin
modifier). But from a user's perspective it feels kinda strange.
Telegram desktop client (and probably other phone OS's too) deletes the
emoji after a single backspace.

Device: E5, stable, OTA-13

** Affects: ubuntu-keyboard (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1626064] [NEW] Different skin-tone emojis taking too much space

2016-09-21 Thread Anupam
Public bug reported:

The same emoji for different skin tones are listed separately, for example all
of these:
      (Thumbs Up Sign, Type-1 to 6)
are listed as separate characters. This is taking unnecessary space.
In case of Telegram desktop client (and probably other phone OS's too), only
one such emoji is listed. One has to long-press on the emoji to open other
colour options.

Device: E5, stable, OTA-13

[Bug 1625704] Re: Keyboard indicator is confusing when no external keyboards attached

2016-09-21 Thread Anupam
** Description changed:

  As discussed in https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg22372.html

  Steps:
  1. Tap on "Text Entry Settings..." inside the keyboard settings indicator at
the top bar, a "Keyboard layouts" page should open which lists (probably) all
the keyboard layouts available in Ubuntu desktop.
- 2. Select a layout which is not yet added in Ubuntu Touch keyboard, for
example Bengali/ Hindi.
+ 2. Select a layout which is not yet available in Ubuntu Touch keyboard, for
example Bengali/ Hindi.

  What happens:
The selected layout appears inside the keyboard settings indicator now along
with a marked checkbox next to it. But the OSK doesn't list the selected layout
as expected.

  Expected:
The user should not be able to select these layouts when there's no external
keyboard attached, or at least the keyboard settings indicator should not show
this selected layout without an external keyboard. Otherwise this gives a false
impression about the availability of a missing layout.

many incoming calls, but need to pick up the ones I get as most of them
are important/urgent.

There is no panel, no launcher. No minimizer maximize button for any
