[Bug 582900] [NEW] Tk Applications don't work over XDMCP

2010-05-19 Thread Anze Slosar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Applications that require Tk support do not work if logged into a
machine through XDMCP. They do work if logged directly into the machine.
A simple example is idle, the python shell. This is what happens if
logged into a machine via XDMCP:

a...@wilde: ~ $ idle
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/idle", line 5, in
main()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/idlelib/PyShell.py", line 1386, in main
root = Tk(className="Idle")
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/lib-tk/Tkinter.py", line 1646, in __init__
self.tk = _tkinter.create(screenName, baseName, className, interactive,
wantobjects, useTk, sync, use)
_tkinter.TclError: Can't find a usable tk.tcl in the following directories:

This probably means that tk wasn't installed properly.

Last sentence still belongs to the output. Tk is installed properly as
it works if in a straight X session.

[Bug 582897] [NEW] XDMCP stops working after logout

2010-05-19 Thread Anze Slosar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

To reproduce:

1) Enable XDMCP using /etc/gdm/custom.conf on machine A
2) Use machine B to log into machine A using: xinit -- :1 -query 192.168.22.10
(22.10 is the IP of machine A)
3) do work
4) log off. It does not return to greeter but closes the session.
5) try again with xinit -- :1 -query 192.168.22.10
   Machine A then complains about Maximum number of sessions reached and
refused to do.

When saying service gdm restart on machine A, it start accepting XDMCP
requests again.
