[Bug 1948626] Re: [SRU] Ubuntu 22.04 Feature Request-Add support for a NVMe-oF-TCP CDC Client - TP 8010

2022-06-06 Thread Reshmi Aravind
Hi Michael, Sujith,

Tested NVMe/TCP initiator support with the kernel mentioned above,
whenever I do nvme connect and mount the luns ,I used to observe the
same error mentioned in the launchpad which an engineer had filed
previously related to PCI NVMe SSD.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1966203

But no functionality loss is seen. No other errors observed when kept
for fio stress for 24-48 Hrs.

[Bug 1948644] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 Feature Request-Include python-dasbus pacakge

2021-10-25 Thread Reshmi Aravind

nvme-stas, the CDC client implementation in Linux requires python-dasbus to
interface with dbus to receive messages from avahi-daemon.
python-dasbus is actively maintained and preferred over python-pydbus.

[Bug 1948636] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 Feature Request-NVMe: Include libnvme package

2021-10-25 Thread Reshmi Aravind
Private bug reported:

Upstream (Keith Busch) has started to revive libnvme with the hope of having
nvme-cli use libnvme in future. New features like CDC client will be developed
on libnvme.
Upstream plans are to make libnvme a standalone package that other projects
would depend on.

We request that Ubuntu 22.04 carry the new libnvme package.

[Bug 1948634] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 Feature Request-Include support in ubuntu installer(subiquity) detect NVMe-oF TCP volumes from nBFT and install to them

2021-10-25 Thread Reshmi Aravind
Private bug reported:

This request is to:
1. Include support in the Ubuntu installer to parse nBFT and connect to the
NVMe-oF TCP namespaces listed in the nBFT.
2. Install to the connected namespace.
3. Configure UEFI boot entry to automatically boot to the newly installed
target.

EDKII code is available as part of the Timberland Work Group that will
produce an nBFT. There is a kernel patch that will expose the nBFT to
user space and a utility called 'nbft' that will parse the nBFT and
output a json that is used by dracut to discover NVMe namespaces.

[Bug 1948630] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 Feature Request-dracut: Include support to boot from NVMe-oF/TCP via nBFT

2021-10-25 Thread Reshmi Aravind

This will enable boot from NVMe-oF/TCP. After kernel/initrd load from
NVMe-oF/TCP volume (with infrastructure provided by EFI), the initrd should
contain hooks to parse nBFT, connect to NVMe-oF/TCP volume, mount it and switch

[Bug 1948626] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 Feature Request-Add support for a NVMe-oF-TCP CDC Client - TP 8010

2021-10-25 Thread Reshmi Aravind
Private bug reported:

NVMe-oF suffers from a well-known discovery problem that fundamentally limits
the size of realistic deployments. To address this discovery problem, the FMDS
working group (within nvme.org) is working on two proposals that will allow
NVMe-oF to be managed via a “network centric” provisioning process instead of
an “end-node centric” one.
TP-8009 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1948625): will
enable the Automated Discovery of NVMe-oF Discovery Controllers in an IP
Network and will prevent an end-user from needing to manually configure the IP
Address of Discovery Controllers.
TP-8010 (this launchpad): will define the concept of a Centralized Discovery
Controller (CDC) and will allow end-users to manage connectivity from a single
point of management on an IP Fabric by IP Fabric basis.

Here is code that implements TP8009 and TP8010:

[Bug 1264311] Re: BCM43142 bluetooth adapter not finding any bluetooth devices

2020-07-07 Thread Aravind Swami Potluri
My Problem was just a naming issue :-

$ dmesg | grep -i 'bluetooth'

if you are facing some naming problem, the output of above command should
be somthing like this ->

Bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM43142A0-0489-e062.hcd failed
with error -2
Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: Patch brcm/BCM43142A0-0489-e062.hcd not found

The Problem here is in this folder : /lib/firmware/brcm

$ ls /lib/firmware/brcm/*.hcd

The above command gives output of some *.hcd file (in my case BCM.hcd).
But my kernal is looking for BCM43142A0-0489-e062.hcd.
All you need to do is make a copy and rename.

$ cp /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM.hcd
/lib/firmware/brcm/BCM43142A0-0489-e062.hcd (in my case)

Restart the PC and will see the frimware is loaded.

BAM!!
Now you can see bluetooh is working.
Done.

The above command gives output of some *.hcd file (in my case BCM.hcd).
But my kernal is looking for BCM43142A0-0489-e062.hcd.
All you need to do is make a copy and rename.

$ cp /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM.hcd
/lib/firmware/brcm/BCM43142A0-0489-e062.hcd (in my case)

Restart the PC and will see the frimware is loaded.

BAM!!
Now you can see bluetooh is working.
Done.

[Bug 1795256] [NEW] frequent crash of Ubuntu 18.04 with purple dotted screen or black screen error death

2018-09-30 Thread Aravind R
Public bug reported:

I had same problem in Ubuntu 16.04.3. But not frequent. It was happening
when I play HD video. But now after installing Ubuntu 18.04 the same
problem even when browsing. Its too frequent.

I have tried to reinstall Intel-microcode, bumblebee, xorg video
drivers. No improvement.

The system don't crash even show error message in dmesg and journalctl.

[Bug 1794340] Re: The PC would not shutdown or reboot automatically. It is stuck at the starting shutdown/reboot stage

2018-09-27 Thread Aravind
---Update on 27th September 2018
As requested tested with mainline kernel v4.19-rc5, the bug still exists. The
PC gets stuck at the reboot or the shutdown stage. Hence adding the additional
tag.

kernel-bug-exists-upstream and making the bug as confirmed

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream

** Description changed:

The PC would not shutdown or reboot automatically. It is stuck at the
  starting shutdown/reboot stage

This is a clean install. I have tried this on 16.04 as well as 18.04
latest updated version and the issue still persists. Tried all options
provided on the net by adding acpi off reboot pci reboot bios etc etc,
  none worked.

Hence reporting this issue. In order to turn off the machine or reboot
the machine must be swtiched off by pressing the power button.

Hope a fix is provided, really getting irritated by this issue. Have
more than 20 machines that are affected by this.

[Bug 1594023] Re: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04

2018-09-25 Thread Aravind
Have the same issue on Xubuntu 18.04 on an intel J1900 machine with
Kingston SSD. We also have a similar machine with exactly the same
equipment but not having the Kingston SSDd running with no issues at
all, looks like the Kingston SSD seems to be causing some problem. Hope
ubuntu help us fix this issue.

[Bug 958345] Re: ttf-indic-fonts packages are outdated should be removed

2017-09-29 Thread Anivar Aravind
Indian Language fonts are not Fixed in 17.10 Beta 2. There is no indian
language fonts in default ISO & installer. Unmaintained fonts-freefont

indian languages .

[Bug 1720446] [NEW] Freefont is buggy and produce broken rendering for many indian languages

2017-09-29 Thread Anivar Aravind
Public bug reported:

Freefont is last updated in 2012& not maintained. It is buggy and not
producing quality rendering in Most Indian Languages. This is the only
font in Ubuntu as of now supported in indtaller. But this results in
broken rendering. I suggest to remove this font from installer and make
it optional. I also suggest to remove this from ubuntu-desktop & vlc
dependency

In past there was a package called ttf-indic-fonts-core as an installer
dependency to support indian languages. But now that is also removed and
producing Square boxes for many Indian languages.
Ref :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-indic-fonts/+bug/958345/comments/39
There is a need of better addressing of Indian language support in Ubuntu prior
to 17.10 . The support must come from seperate font package & not via broken
ttf-freefont.
As of now Beta 2 of 17.10 produces rendering errors for many languages
including Malayalam because of fonts-freefont.

[Bug 1719354] Re: apparmor blocking smbd which is in complain mode

2017-09-27 Thread Aravind R
Mr.Christian,

Thanks, I will backport.

I have another problem too because of the same. I have installed
apparmor-notify. Please just tell me how to disable notification for
samba in complaining mode.

The below instance is loop for every 30 seconds.

The below is the algo which is causing disaster of samba + apparmor.

START LOOP:

1) msg.lock is used in recent version 4.3.8

2) smbd is running as root

3) samba is running as local profile user

4) any file created by smbd in msg.lock is root:root

5) when every samba try to access the file, it is an error of denial to
write.

6) Apparmor logs in kernal.log the above bla bla bla log.

7) AppArmor-notify alert the same.

RE-RUN LOOP EVERY 30 SECONDS

I am using ubuntu desktop. I hope you can understand my problem. I can't found
option to do the same in aa-notify.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1719354] Re: apparmor blocking smbd which is in complain mode

2017-09-26 Thread Aravind R
** Package changed: apparmor (Ubuntu) => samba (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

- apparmor blocking smbd which is in complain mode
+ This error is occurring because samba is working in user profile and
+ folder '/run/samba/msg.log' has owner as root. Any log created will be
+ as root. Hence, samba not able to log anything.

[Bug 1608604] Re: Epson L210 multifunctional printer, scanner is not working.

2017-02-06 Thread Aravind Gopal
Please see the comments from #116 , #126 etc in bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lsb/+bug/1536353

I thought that bug is for printers only and not MFD.

I am suffering from this issue for more than 10 MONTHS.
Even after providing with the screenshots and log files .

Till now there isn't any technical guidance.. to solve a partial problem with
an essential hardware.
AND PROBLEM PERSISTS.. I cannot scan from LINUX.(No problem with Win10)

Even though I a like a Canon MFD(not supported by Linux), I opted Epson MFD
because Linux supported it.
I am a fan of Linux. Now Its like Ubuntu is forcing me to Switch OS.

PLease Help

Now simple scan is not loading from menu short cut. need sudo fron
console to load. But still cannot identify the device. Previous LTS
version was fine. 16.04.1 is buggy.

What is the problem? , its hardware or software problem?. Is it possible to use
the scanner? Status shows "fix released" and Importance "medium".
