[Bug 1908469] [NEW] Cannot install .deb packages opened from Firefox
Public bug reported: Suppose in Firefox you click a link to a .deb package. A dialog named "Opening [filename].deb" opens. If you select "Open with", then the .deb file is downloaded, placed in /tmp/mozilla_[username]0/ directory, then Software Install (as named in the Firefox dialog) is started on that .deb file. Next, Software Install loads and fails with "Failed to install file: not supported". If on the other hand, in Firefox's "Opening [filename].deb" dialog, if I select "Save File" instead, the .deb file ends up in the user's Downloads directory. Software Install works fine with the package there. I don't want to get too much into solutioning or "why". The main point of this bug is that I should not get a weird error just because I selected "Open with" instead of "Save File". This happens with a vanilla install of Ubuntu, with nothing else installed, so the product isn't working in an intuitive way. [Bug 1511106] [NEW] window contents scroll up when mouse wheel rapidly scrolled down
Public bug reported: After upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10, if I slowly scroll down with the mouse wheel, the content scrolls down correctly. [Bug 1311172] Re: Chromium appears to stay on top of other applications even when it is not
Correction on #4: looks like I can interact with Chromium windows that aren't on top, but only if I click on an area of the window that isn't covered up by another browser. Bear with me: For example, suppose I have three Chromium browser windows open with #1 in the front and #3 in the back, and each sticks out about 1" past each other on the right. If I click on the scrollbar of #3, I can interact with it. Technically that brings #3 to the top even though it's not being drawn that way. #2 is still visible, but if I click on anything on #2, I am in fact messing with browser #3 as it's on top in every respect except for being drawn on top by the UI. I cannot get browser window #3 to be drawn on top by the UI unless I do something that causes the window to move or resize. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311172 Title: Chromium appears to stay on top of other applications even when it is not To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1311172/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Even though I cannot see these other applicaitons or parts thereof that were behind Chromium, I can interact with them with the mouse as if they are on top and in focus. Also, even if Chromium is not minimized, it is still drawn above other applications even if another application gets the focus due to me interacting with it. I can reproduce this on both a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 and an install of Xubuntu that started with 12.10 and has successively been upgraded through every release. [Bug 1175601] Re: Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot without my permission
That's interesting: clearing the session cache seems to have improved things. I wonder if there is some odd interaction between the session cache and Chromium? After clearing the cache, the Chromium icon in the bar at top, representing the background process, reappears whenever I reboot, but no windows are opened. I even opened Chromium to two news sites, rebooted, and later opened Chromium to Gmail and Facebook, rebooted, and in neither case did Chromium windows open after I logged in, just the Chromium icon in the top bar. If I uncheck Chromium from the Application Autostart tab, it's rechecked once Chromium restarts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175601 Title: Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot without my permission To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1175601/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just did a clean install of Ubuntu 13.10. First thing I did was install VirtualBox Guest Extensions, then I installed Chromium. [Bug 1176903] Re: Chromium browser window opens on startup even though I never configured this
"you can delete that from the list of startup applications, although I don't think that will solve your problem" OK, I went to Session and Startup > Application Autostart, unchecked Chromium, and rebooted. It still starts. In fact, when I go back to Session and Startup, Chromium is once again checked. Weirdly, if I uncheck it, close Session and Startup, then go back to it, it remains unchecked. However, when I reboot, it gets rechecked. "Is it going to a particular site?" No, just going to a default startup default page that shows my "Most visited" sites. "You might also want to try deleting everything in ~/.cache/sessions/" Closed Chromium completely by right-clicking on the top bar icon and selecting Exit. Deleted everything from ~/.cache/sessions/. Started Chromium again. Closed it. ~/.cache/sessions/ remains empty. Went back to Session and Startup and unchecked Chromium again. Rebooted. THIS TIME IT'S DIFFERENT! Chromium did NOT come back up after reboot, and the checkbox stayed unchecked. AHA, but I don't think it's related to deleting everything in ~/.cache/sessions/: I closed Session and Startup, loaded Chromium again, and went back to Session and Startup. The Chromium box is re-checked. So looks like something in the Chromium background process is overriding whatever I put here. I do think that is a separate bug. Again, the problem here is that a Chromium _window_ is opening on startup. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176903 Title: Chromium browser window opens on startup even though I never configured this To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1176903/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, it is, but this is supposedly only for the background process as it just runs /usr/bin/chromium-browser --no-startup-window. [Bug 1176903] [NEW] Chromium browser window opens on startup even though I never configured this
Public bug reported: When I start Xubuntu 13.04, a Chromium window opens after I log in to my session. I have never configured Chromium to open a browser window automatically. This happened even back with 12.10, before I upgraded the instance to 13.04. Note that this is not the same as #1175601. With the other bug report, the problem is two background instances of Chromium are running at the same time. With this report, the problem is not the background instances but that the browser window opens without me having configured it to do so. What should happen is, by default, the Chromium browser window does not open until I manually open it. I also have a 13.04 Xubuntu instance that I built from scratch. It also has chromium-browser installed, same version as on the machine with this problem. Not only does it not show a Chromium background process in the menu bar on the top right, running "ps xfwww" does not show any evidence of a Chromium background process running, so I am seeing inconsistent behaviors here. (Not sure if that informs this bug; I'd be happy to open a different bug report if appropriate.) [Bug 1175601] [NEW] Two Chromium background instances and a browser window open on boot without my permission
Public bug reported: When I log into my user session (type in my password on the login prompt after boot), Chromium auto-starts, and two instances of its background process automatically open: per the attached image, two Chromium icons appear in the top bar. Also, an instance of the browser appears in the middle of the screen. When this happens, I get an inconsistent browsing experince in Chromium, where it is randomly unable to connect to web sites or download components referenced by web pages (e.g., CSS files, JS files, etc.). I can fix by closing the browser and also both the background sessions, then restarting Chromium. I have never configured Chromium to start up when I log into my session. This has happened without my explicit permission or consent. If I go to Session and Startup's Application Autostart tab, Chromium appears in the list and is checked. I did not configure this. [Bug 1173234] Re: Chromium's content doesn't respect z order, obscuring everything else
The attached image shows what happens after the password screen displays if it has been idle too long: the Chromium window still stays active and on top, albeit unresponsive. While the Chrome Web Store tab is selected, Chromium is showing the contents of the background tab named Extensions (opened to chrome://extensions). Chromium's connection with reality is so bad that even if you flip between the tabs, it won't redraw the Chrome Web Store tab. However, if I hover over the tab, I can see the mouse cursor change to the hand pointer when I am over where a clickable thing would be, and the URL does change as I click on things. This is different than what was reported earlier, where it would draw correctly but not respond to clicks. ** Attachment added: "Ubuntu 13.04 after sitting around for a while.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1173234/+attachment/3655091/+files/Ubuntu%2013.04%20after%20sitting%20around%20for%20a%20while.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173234 Title: Chromium's content doesn't respect z order, obscuring everything else To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1173234/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 702440] [NEW] Setting static DNS server in Devices - Network Tools has no effect
Public bug reported: This is on a pretty clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop 64-bit. Expected behavior: If I use System > Administration > Network Tools to switch to static IP and static DNS settings, it should "just work." Reality: System > Administration > Network Tools gets the static IP correct but never successfully alters DNS settings. Steps to reproduce: 1. System > Administration > Network Tools 2. In the "Network device" dropdown, select "Ethernet Interface (eth0)", then click "Configure". 3. On the "Wired" tab, select "Auto eth0", then select "Edit". 4. In the "IPv4 Settings" tab, select "Manual" from the "Method" dropdown. 5. Add a new static IP, netmask, etc. 6. Enter the IP of at least one DNS server. Now press OK/Apply as necessary to confirm all changes. At this point, presuming the IP is valid, you cannot get any DNS resolution. You can access other IPs over the network just fine, but this change had no effect on DNS. Strangely, if I check "/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Auto eth0", the [ipv4] section does show the DNS server. And the other settings are in place. /etc/network/interfaces just has this: auto lo iface lo inet loopback /etc/resolv.conf has this: # Generated by NetworkManager nameserver [valid IP of first server, and yes, I can ping it] nameserver [valid IP of second server, and yes, I can ping it] So seems like it ought to be correct? [Bug 159276] Re: phpmyadmin package does not work "out of the box"
Just figured out the problem: you have to press SPACE to activate the current selection. The red icon made it look like apache2 was selected by default. I reproduced again with 8.10. This is not incomplete--it simply doesn't work out of the box. [Bug 159276] Re: phpmyadmin package does not work "out of the box"
OK, I flattened my VM and tried again from scratch so I could tell you my steps. Here they are: 1. Install base OS using jeos-8.04.1-jeos-i386.iso. 2. sudo aptitude, install all updates and upgrades. 3. Still in aptitude, install apache2 and all dependencies selected by aptitude. 4. Still in aptitude, install mysql-common-5.0 (I think that was it? Cannot remember the exact selection) and all dependencies selected by aptitude. 5. Still in aptitude, install phpmyadmin and all dependencies selected by aptitude. When the "Configuring phpmyadmin" screen came up, I selected apache2, which was the default selection. See attachment. phpMyAdmin does not work. If I browse to http://[vm's address]/phpmyadmin or http://[vm's address]/phpMyAdmin, I get a 404. I can find nothing under /etc/apache2 to suggest that phpmyadmin has modified any files. ** Attachment added: "Picture of where I told the phpmyadmin installer to use apache2" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19076920/phpmyadmin_install.png -- phpmyadmin package does not work "out of the box" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/159276 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 159276] Re: phpmyadmin package does not work "out of the box"
Just want to say I tried it again this time with jeos-8.04.1-jeos-i386.iso. I then loaded aptitude and installed apache2, phpmyadmin, and all parts they require. Yet again, phpmyadmin fails to work out of the box. [Bug 159276] Re: phpmyadmin package does not work "out of the box"
OK, finally was able to test out again. I am running a fairly fresh, clean install of Ubuntu 8.04. This is a clean install, not an upgrade from something else. I installed phpmyadmin, the latest package, using aptitude. I immediately went to /etc/apache2/conf.d and noticed that, again, no symbolic link is created. Note that I am using apache2.
