[Bug 2074352] [NEW] Password to uncrypt system sometimes not accepted on boot

2024-07-29 Thread Arnaud LELEVE
Public bug reported:

I opted for full system encryption during the installation of Ubuntu
24.04.

This is the second time in one week that my password has not been
accepted three times at boot. However, after restarting my PC, the
password is accepted on the first try.

Best.

[Bug 2070476] [NEW] My Sony WH-1000XM4 headset is no more seen as bluetooth device after upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04

2024-06-26 Thread Arnaud LELEVE
Public bug reported:

Dear Ubuntu developpers,

I used my headset through Bluetooth without any trouble under Ubuntu 22.04.
Now that I have upgraded (erased everything and reinstalled from scratch) to
24.04, the bluetooth soft does not see my headset, even when it is visible by
other devices.
I have checked with bluetoothctl and its MAC @ never appears.
I've also checked the bluetooth connection with my phone, without any issue.

A manual pairing with it MAC@ (88:c9:e8 ...) says the device is not
available.

I managed to pair another headset.

Any idea ?

Thanks for your interest and your work.

Best

Arnaud

[Bug 1951153] [NEW] System freeze with nvidia on-demand driver on kernel 5.11 and 5.13

2021-11-16 Thread Arnaud
Public bug reported:

When using the on-demand mode on my GTX1060 Max-Q, the game CS:GO causes
a system hang after few minutes of playing (around 5min). Nothing
responds and the screen freezes, forcing a hard reboot. When going back
to the mode NVIDIA (performance mode), the game runs fine.

I am using gamemode to boost performances. It can also enable the GPU
while in the on-demand mode by setting the GAMEMODERUNEXEC environment
variable. To enable it, I added the following lines in my .profile:

if [ $(prime-select query) == "on-demand" ] ; then
export GAMEMODERUNEXEC="env __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 env
__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia env __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only"
fi

Disabling gamemode doesn’t change anything, the system still freezes.

CS:GO is the only game doing this. I asked on the NVIDIA forums and they
told me it might be a kernel bug linked with async flip being enabled in
the Intel driver. In the attached nvidia log, you can see a lot of the
following errors when the freeze happens:

[ 327.526] (WW) modeset(0): flip queue failed: Invalid argument
[ 327.526] (WW) modeset(0): Page flip failed: Invalid argument
[ 327.526] (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

The bug happens both on 470 and 495 drivers, and on kernel 5.11 and 5.13 (from
linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04 and linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04-edge). When
going back to the 5.4 kernel (from linux-image-generic), the bug disappears.

Specs:
Operating System: KDE neon 5.23 (based on Ubuntu LTS 20.04)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.88.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

[Bug 1858810] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"

2020-06-10 Thread Arnaud
Hello,

Installing latest 3.20200609.0ubuntu0 on 19.10.0 this afternoon did the
opposite for me: it brought the boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"
problem that I didn't experienced before.

Both kernels 5.3.0-59 and 5.3.0-55 didn't boot (normal or recovery),
only 5.3.0-53 booted normally.

I had to switch back to intel-microcode=3.20190918.1ubuntu1 version to
boot on kernels 5.3.0-59 and 5.3.0-55.

[Bug 1869803] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, recording] Recording problem, internal mic and headset mic not listed

2020-03-30 Thread Arnaud Tardif
Public bug reported:

Hi, my dell laptop inspiron 15 5590 not working properly, internal mic
is not listed in inputs and headset mic neither. I tested headset mic on
other devices and it works fine. Also when I plug headset in in/out
jack, ubuntu doesn't ask for connection type (headset, headset mic, mic)
it use it only as simple headset.

I tried some configuration in alsa and HDAJackRetask but none works.
Same for kernels, 4.15.x, 5.0.x (oem), 5.3.x none works.

I didn't test mics under windows because I can't for the moment.

If you need details, I'll be glad to copy/paste your commands in
terminal.

[Bug 1867971] Re: gsettings dependency is problematic

2020-03-18 Thread Alex ARNAUD
Thanks Rich for reporting this issue.

The main problem here is because the Ubuntu Orca's version is patched to
add GSettings backend not applied upstream.

I don't think having such huge downstream change is a good decision, I
think we should remove the downstream patch to let Orca being as it is
intended to be by the Orca's team.

Best regards.

[Bug 1820288] Re: Tomcat Web Application Manager does not copy context configuration

2020-02-17 Thread Arnaud MERGEY
It seems that permission has been changed, in 16.04 localhost privileges are
drwxrwxr-x 2 root tomcat8 4096 Dec 22 10:22 localhost

In 18.04
drwxr-xr-x 2 root tomcat8 4096 Sep 9 19:47 localhost

so write privilege has been removed for tomcat8 group in 18.04. Has
manager comes with tomcat8 it does not have permission to deploy
application.

More generally I think my bug concern the whole tomcat8-admin package
(where manager belongs to) which is not working.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2019-11-19 Thread Arnaud D
After days of fresh reinstallations and tests, I finally found what was
causing this on my end and finally solved it by using a xorg
configuration override 10-evdev.conf as shown on [1]

Offender: Gaming mouse driver (Saitek Cyborg R.A.T.9 Wireless Mouse)
Driver: libinput

After a bit of research, I found that this mouse is known to be
malfunctioning with the default settings on Xorg. Despite working at a
first look, the default configuration is causing the below symptoms as
explained by [2]

After being plugged, the mouse will seems to work, but you may experience
different issues :
* You cannot move windows around when grabbing the window's title bar. (happens
with Openbox and other Window manager)
* You cannot click on buttons.
* You cannot get the focus on windows.
* You cannot open menus, even with keyboard shortcuts.
* Display does not refresh (using Xcompmgr)
* Closing certain windows restores functionality until the mouse locks into a
new window.

[Bug 1754886] Re: Eclipse fails to start (java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter)

2019-11-10 Thread Arnaud
@pinubigfoot #30
@pinubigfoot #34

Hello,

The workaround may work but dependencies are still wrong in the Eclipse
DEB packages, since they demand the different versions of Java but not
the right one, as already described in comment #31. If Java 8 is
required, then the dependencies should relate only to Java 8. They
should not absurdly demand Java 11 ('default-jre') or Java 5 or Java 6
any more!

The package needs a correction, not a workaround by end users.

Nothing has been amended for months at all (see 'apt show eclipse-jdt'
or 'apt show eclipse-pde' for example). The Eclipse package dependencies
are still a mess.

Is there a way to have the package maintainer eventually correct those
unacceptably crappy package dependencies?

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2019-11-06 Thread Arnaud D
Oh no the bug happens again with the desktop icons properly set, so it
is not the root cause, pfff

I'm setting up at work and home the same Linux setup, at home this is
the focus bug fest, at work the bug never happened a single time ! Every
click success and I do not have the problems I have at home

The only difference I have from home and work in my setups are

- At work I'm under a proxy, at home direct
- At work the display are 1 graphic card intel and using Mesa if I remember,
while at home i'm on nvidia latest drivers and 2 graphic cards
- At work I'm on two displays, at home a gsync single display
- I don't much extensions than what is installed by default on pacman -S gnome
gdm cinnamon nemo

I suspect this bug to be driver related, maybe driver and icon rendering
problem, but understand that fixing bugs without any relevant log is
like searching for a needle in a haystack :/

If I could help feel free to ask cause I believe I could find the root
cause with 2 similar setup on 2 different hardware acting differently !

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2019-11-05 Thread Arnaud D
Hello, sent there by some reference of 'pushModal: invocation of
begin_modal failed', this seems the best ticket to share infos.

Here I can reproduce the issue on Arch Linux and 2 different desktop
display, gnome nautilus with gnome files and also on cinnamon with nemo

On cinnamon and nemo, I'm creating a *.desktop file with a missing icon
file on disk specified in Icon=

Steps to reproduce:
*) download poc.desktop to your ~/
*) desktop-file-install --dir=~/.local/share/applications/ poc.desktop
*) update-desktop-database -v ~/.local/share/applications/
*) reboot

Without a icon named IDoNotExists.xpm/png installed, I get the window
focus problem, repeating the procedure with the icon present fixes
immediately the problem

[Bug 1754886] Re: Eclipse fails to start (java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter)

2019-07-21 Thread Arnaud
@pinubigfoot #30

Same situation here : Java 11.0.3.

I installed Eclipse and the JRE came with the dependencies : 'eclipse'
depends on 'eclipse-jdt' and 'eclipse-pde', both depending on 'default-
jre | java5-runtime | java6-runtime' (sic !), and 'default-jre' in turn
depends on 'openjdk-11-jre'. Same goes with 'eclipse-platform' etc.

If current Eclipse packages effectively depends on a Java 8 JRE, why is
it that the dependencies chain is not installing 'openjdk-8-jre' and
automatically configure Eclipse to the use of this JRE ? Why all these
incorrect dependencies ?

All the Debian and derivative distros package systems rely on correct
version dependency management by package maintainers, relieving the user
of any tedious error-prone task of manually managing the packet versions
dependencies and environment configuration. 'sudo apt install eclipse'
should result in Eclipse being immediately executable, as any other
software installed with this command. I chose Ubuntu, a Debian-derived
distro, because i didn't want to loose time manually fiddling with
package installation and configuration.

So, please, the Eclipse packages do need to be corrected according to
Debian-based package policy and should not depend on their users
painfully manually tidying the mess.

[Bug 1820288] [NEW] Tomcat Web Application Manager does not copy context configuration

2019-03-15 Thread Arnaud MERGEY
Public bug reported:

Deploying application through "Deploy directory or WAR file located on server"
in tomcat manager
does not work anymore since 18.04 (it used to work until 16.04 and is working
in regular tomcat)

Context configuration set in "XML Configuration file URL" is not copied
anymore in /var/lib/tomcat8/conf/Catalina/localhost as it should.

I have created a simple application to illustrate the issue.

- Copy attached hello.zip in /tmp and unzip it
- From tomcat web manager on the same machine
- in "Context Path (required)" put /hello
- in "XML Configuration file URL" set /tmp/hello.xml
- in "WAR or Directory URL" set /tmp/hello.war
Click deploy

Navigate to http://host:8080/hello/hello
In 16.04 you see "Everything is ok", but in 18.04 and 18.10 you see "You should
not be able to read this"
The reason for that is this servlet displays value of an init param that is
overridden through a context configuration. as Since 18.04 context is not
copied anymore, the non-overridden value is displayed.

[Bug 1809302] [NEW] Cosmic] Eclipse fails to start (installed through : sudo apt install eclipse)

2018-12-20 Thread Arnaud
Public bug reported:

After installing Eclipse (), trying to start yields a popup with the following
message (example) :

An error has occurred. See the log file
/home/arnaud/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.8_155965261/configuration/1543766365512.log

Each trial actually yields a different log file (with a different number in its
name), but always with the same content, except for dates and hours in both
first line which look like launch and error times respectively to me :
[beginning of file]
!SESSION Sun Dec 02 16:59:25 CET 2018 --

Installed JDK and JRE are default-jdk and defaut -jre respectively
(currently openjdk-11-jdk and openjdk-11-jre, both for amd64), which
satisfy the package depedencies.

It seems the Ubuntu Eclipse package is not configured according to the
installed JDK/JRE packages, not even the default one it depends on. Its
installation procedure doesn't seem to try to configure Eclipse
accordingly.

[Bug 1767648] Re: Top bar and shell dialogs are not displayed properly when zoom is enabled

2018-06-04 Thread Alex ARNAUD
Hello all,

I've seen this bug reported on the Ubuntu Forum.

I'm visual-impaired myself and I'm writing this message with a zoom at
factor 5 and color inversion on my screen.

I'm using Debian, Mate desktop and the Compiz window manager that
provides lot of plug-ins useful for visual-impaired: full-screen zoom,
color filters, negative and show mouse (circle or cross around the
mouse).

You can contact me via private message if you want help on such software
to be able to help your friend to be able to use his computer.

Best regards,
Alex.

[Bug 1769706] [NEW] package virtualbox-ext-pack 5.2.10-3 failed to install/upgrade: installed virtualbox-ext-pack package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 4

2018-05-07 Thread Arnaud
Public bug reported:

Error in upgrading from 17.10 (last updated approx. 2 weeks ago) to 18.04,
yesterday.
This upgrade seems to have installed everything else but aborted just before
the cleaning phase and said a reboot could result in a non working system. So i
haven't dared do it until this moment. I have given priority to rsync'ing all
my personal directory on an external disk last night, since i had never taken
time to do a backup before.

So now i just get a line of error message if i try to reinstall the
package:

E: Internal Error, No file name for virtualbox-ext-pack:amd64

[Bug 1496542] Re: Running processes left after disabling screen reader

2017-12-12 Thread Alex ARNAUD
Hello all,

What's described here is not a bug but the old behavior of speech-
dispatcher.

Orca is a screen reader, the speech output uses speech-dispatcher.
speech-dispatcher is a daemon that run in background.

In the new release like 16.04 or newer speech-dispatcher stops when
there is no client connected to it.

[Bug 1716884] Re: network-manager consume too much file descriptor and is not able to work correctly

2017-09-13 Thread arnaud
Looks like the issue starts when connect a USB wifi dongle (based on ath9k_htc).
After a fresh NetworkManager restart, journalctl shows that USB device is
enumerated periodically, and for some reasons, failed to be configured
correctly.

We can conclude that there is a FD leakage every time a new interface is
inserted/removed.

I will check what is wrong with the enumeration/configuration.

[Bug 1714688] [NEW] orca fails to start

2017-09-02 Thread Alex ARNAUD
Public bug reported:

Dear Ubuntu desktop team,

Since the upgrade from Orca 3.22 to 3.24 or 3.25 it is no longer
possible to start Orca if it wants to use GSettings.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Upgrade to the last gnome-orca release
2) Remove the folder "~/.local/share/orca/" if you've it
3) Launch Orca from a terminal to see the log

You will obtain the following error message:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/25451496/

Why we've this bug? See my comment on another bug that explain the
origin of the issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
orca/+bug/1704847/comments/9

The issue comes from because the new package doesn't include the
GSettings backend it uses with the patches "0001-Add-GSettings-backend-
to-Orca.patch".

To fix the issue we could include again "autoreconf.mk" to the "debian/rules"
file.
You could find the diff here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25451573/

Best regards.

GTK3 loads accessibility automatically so I think we could close this

[Bug 1167014] Re: MIssing cmake files

2016-12-10 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
I agree this bug should be closed.
I encountered this issue when building
https://github.com/andrewssobral/bgslibrary on Xenial

However, this was due to the absence of the devel package (I only had
the standard OpenCV package installed).

Installing libopencv-dev fixed this issue as it brings the necessary cmake
files, and I could build BGS.
See http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/libopencv-dev/filelist for where
they are located.

[Bug 1647088] Re: NUT not work with apc backups with usb through usbhid-ups

2016-12-05 Thread Arnaud Quette
Hi guys,

this is very possibly a duplicate of #1483615
the error is probably due to an issue retrieving a string, and not handled in
the driver code.
To confirm, please start the driver in debug mode using (as root):
/lib/nut/usbhid-ups -u nut -DDD -a myups
then
/lib/nut/usbhid-ups -u root -DDD -a myups

if confirmed, this was fixed upstream:
https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/commit/f679a2820e49cbdec4138295de5e8947ee953a8a

However, as mentioned in the other ticket, the above fix has some negative
impact.
this may in the end be due to another ticket (tied to udev and privileges
application) logged by Charles Lepple. This privileges issues could lead to the
string retrieval issue, causing these bugs.

All in all, adding the patch has more benefits than drawbacks

2016-09-06 Thread Arnaud LELEVE
Hello,
I found where the problem came from: Cisco VPN which interferes with software
installation through apt-get
By simply deinstalling it, the problem disappears.

Thanks for your help

[Bug 1611708] [NEW] Package version inconsistent with Eigen's

2016-08-10 Thread TANGUY Arnaud
Public bug reported:

There seems to be a mismatch between the advertised Ubuntu Trusty's
libeigen-dev package version (3.2.0-8)and the actual eigen code it's
based on (3.1.0).

In Ubuntu Trusty, the Eigen package is described as follow:
Package: libeigen3-dev
Priority: extra
Section: universe/libdevel
Installed-Size: 3729
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers
Original-Maintainer: Debian Science Maintainers

Architecture: all
Source: eigen3
Version: 3.2.0-8
Provides: libeigen2-dev
Depends: pkg-config
Suggests: libeigen3-doc, libmrpt-dev
Filename: pool/universe/e/eigen3/libeigen3-dev_3.2.0-8_all.deb

So, according to this, the package provides Eigen 3.2.0
However, inspecting the installed files, it seems that it is in fact based on
Eigen 3.1.0

I noticed this while trying to use the LevenbergMarquardt unsupported Eigen API:
- Code for Eigen 3.1 (corresponding exactly to the code in the package):
https://goo.gl/J4kFeq

- Code for 3.2: https://goo.gl/hNkaeY

This is problematic, as there is a significant API change between Eigen
3.1 and 3.2 for the LevenbergMarquart algorithm.

Could you have a look at what's going on there?

Best regards,
Arnaud TANGUY

[Bug 1519120] Re: Xenial: VLAN interfaces don't work until after a reboot

2016-06-07 Thread Arnaud
I faced the same bug. After some quick research, I found a bug in the
vlan script /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/vlan

It splits vlan number from interface name and creates vlan interface. It
works with interface named eth, em, bond, vlan and doesn't work with
systemd predictable network interfaces names
(https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/PredictableNetworkInterfaceNames/).

Here is a patch,

[Bug 1470674] Re: python-usb will not install do to over-write problem

2016-06-03 Thread Arnaud Ober
Same problem for me.
I try to install Galileo to synchronize my Fitbit device, on Ubuntu 16.04.
I'm using the PPA of Chris Wayne, and when I use the terminal: "sudo apt-get
install Galileo", I have exactly the same error. I saw that the python-pyusb is
provided by Chris Wayne, but I can't install only Galileo package, can I?

[Bug 1574070] [NEW] Celestia or not Celestia

2016-04-23 Thread Arnaud
Public bug reported:

16.04 LTS upgrade just removed the celestia package from my 3 PCs (2
under Ubuntu GNOME and 1 under Ubuntu MATE).

Only the celestia-common-nonfree data package is still available in the

exploit those data, neither Celestia nor a replacement application.

Public bug reported:

On my BQ Aquaris M10, when I launch a Xapp (ex: Firefox or LibreOffice),

[Bug 1561717] Re: [Lockscreen] The big circle with the text is not easy to read

2016-04-07 Thread Arnaud Ober
I changed original description and title of the bug. Maybe it's more
explicative... Otherwise, don't hesitate to ask me for more details. :)

** Summary changed:

- Daily circles overtake on the main circle
+ [Lockscreen] The big circle with the text is not easy to read

** Summary changed:

- [Lockscreen] The big circle with the text is not easy to read
+ [Lock screen] The big circle with the text is not easy to read

** Description changed:

- On the lockscreen, each daily circle for statistic, overtake on the main
circle.
- The colour of each daily circle inside the main circle should be darker (as
on the official images on ubuntu.com), or even cut the circles, to keep main
circle with text easy to read.
+ On the lock screen, we have each day a new small circle, and at the end
+ of the month, it draws a beautiful flower.
+
+ The problem is that the text on the big circle is not easy to read, because
the small daily circles are not hidden inside the big circle.
+ I looked the official images on the Ubuntu website, and we can see that on
the big circle, there is nothing else than the text, the big circle is clean,
empty (except text of course!)
