Somehow udev was full and was causing issues. I rebooted the server and
was able to login again. Very strange, but not a bug in x2go as far as I
can tell.

[Bug 1879414] [NEW] Cannot log into a server I logged into previously with error "Your home directory path contains non-ASCII characters. Aborting session startup."

2020-05-18 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

This began happening after the latest updates using apt.

I am connecting to a previously saved connection on my network.

After I enter my password and hit enter I get the message: "Connection
failed. Your home directory path contains non-ASCII characters. Aborting
session startup."

I'm not sure what this is referring to, as both my local and remote home
directories don't contain non-ASCII characters as far as I know.

[Bug 1859259] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_surface_actor_get_texture() from meta_wayland_actor_surface_real_sync_actor_state() from meta_wayland_subsurface_sync_actor_state()

2020-01-15 Thread Asif Youssuff
This crash just happened: 1859911

I still see those errant extensions inside of GsettingsChanges.txt, but
they don't appear in the GNOME Tweak UI, nor do I see them in
/home/asif/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions

I have no idea where they are on disk, and I would be happy to remove
them from disk if I knew where they were.

I also don't see them installed via apt.

I went ahead and reset the key via dconf-editor since it seems like
those are stale entries, so new crashes shouldn't have that set and
confound the situation.

[Bug 1859259] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_surface_actor_get_texture() from meta_wayland_actor_surface_real_sync_actor_state()

2020-01-15 Thread Asif Youssuff
Daniel,

The first line in GsettingsChanges.txt says:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'disable-user-extensions' b'true'

I globally disabled extensions via GNOME Tweak -- does this switch not
work?

I just now also removed everything inside of /home/asif/.local/share
/gnome-shell/extensions -- there was only one extension there (but it
should have been disabled anyway).

[Bug 1859259] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_surface_actor_get_texture() from meta_wayland_actor_surface_real_sync_actor_state()

2020-01-15 Thread Asif Youssuff
Okay, looks like my new bug in 1859890 was closed as a duplicate.

As I mentioned in that bug, I both removed the extensions mentioned
*and* disabled extensions entirely in GNOME Tweak. I ran into the bug in
1859890.

Hopefully that gives you some more information and shows that the issue
exists in plain GNOME, not just when add-ons are installed.

[Bug 1858120] [NEW] Graphical corruption Intel HD Graphics 630 when using Firefox nightly in Wayland mode

2020-01-02 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

Also tracked in: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1604948

Once every few starts of Firefox on my machine ends up corrupting the
display of my Wayland session badly - what looks like a lot of stray
marks on my display are seen overlaid on top of all windows, not just
Firefox.

Logging out and logging back in resolves the issue, but there is a
chance that it recurs on next launch.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Gnome session in Wayland mode.
2. Start Firefox Nightly with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

What happens:

Various issues, including "unknown" application appearing in task
switcher, stray marks on screen, and dead/inactive windows that persist
over other windows even when switching virtual desktops.

Response from Firefox bugzilla says:

This is likely a bug in GS 3.34, fixed by
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/924 and
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/merge_requests/815, included in
3.34.2 which should arrive soon in Ubuntu 19.10.

[Bug 1838208] Re: Wifi stops responding sporadically on lenovo-yoga-720-15ikb

2019-08-22 Thread Asif Youssuff
I will note that sometimes, restarting network-manager doesn't work,
especially if I have put the machine to sleep prior to trying to access
the network. Here's a dmesg where it did come back after network-manager
restart.

[Bug 1838208] Re: Wifi stops responding sporadically on lenovo-yoga-720-15ikb

2019-08-19 Thread Asif Youssuff
I copied the contents of linux-firmware-20190815 to /lib/firmware/ and
rebooted with the v5.3-rc3 kernel.

The issue persists in this configuration. Wifi drops periodically and I
must restart network-manager to be able to use it.

Hi, this is still an issue -- can you provide some instructions on how
to install the Linux firmware on Ubuntu? I can follow instructions.
Thanks!

** Description changed:

I can make this happen by trying to upload a large file using Firefox
Nightly to https://send.firefox.com/ Within a few seconds (like 10-15)
  my wifi stops responding.

Restarting network manager via service network-manager restart
  temporarily resolves the issue.

This issue began appearing a week or so ago -- almost definitely not a
month ago; my wifi used to be fine previously.

[Bug 1838208] [NEW] Wifi stops responding sporadically on lenovo-yoga-720-15ikb

2019-07-28 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

I can make this happen by trying to upload a large file using Firefox
Nightly to https://send.firefox.com/ Within a few seconds (like 10-15)
my wifi stops responding.

Restarting network manager via service network-manager restart
temporarily resolves the issue.

This issue began appearing a week or so ago -- almost definitely not a
month ago; my wifi used to be fine previously.

[Bug 1823834] [NEW] Firefox doesn't correctly display color emoji because Dejavu includes b&w emoji

2019-04-08 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

As seen on:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1516445
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1323050

STR:

I am using Firefox nightly, but the installed Firefox built into ubuntu
works as well. Firefox comes with a font "TwemojiMozilla.ttf" which
includes emojis in color.

1. Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoji#Unicode_blocks
2. Scroll to row U+1F60x

What happens:

The emoji are not displayed in color, because Dejvu Sans seems to be
rendered instead of TwemojiMozilla (the font built into Firefox).

Expected result:

Color emoji. Since Dejavu doesn't display color emoji and Firefox was
kind enough to include a font that includes color emoji, Ubuntu's
fontconfig should let Firefox do the right thing.

[Bug 1390589] Re: 8086:08b1 [Lenovo V570] Intel Wireless 7260 wifi stops working

2014-11-25 Thread Asif Youssuff
Christopher,

I have a question about the reverse bisect process. It looks like you
want me to download Linus' tree, checkout the 3.18-rc3 release, and mark
it bad. However, I am unsure of which revision I should mark as "good"
to correspond to the 3.16.0-24.32 kernel I reported the bug for.

The "mapping" is not present on http://people.canonical.com/~kernel/info
/kernel-version-map.html so any assistance here would be extremely
helpful.

Thanks!

2014-11-07 Thread Asif Youssuff
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.18-rc3 -- the aforementioned
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf

with the contents:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight" # use your backlight that works here
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

continues to work to workaround it.

Booting with the kernel parameter: video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0
did not allow for hotkey or widget changes of brightness.

- Booting with the kernel parameter: video.use_native_backlight=1
+ Booting with the kernel parameter: video.use_native_backlight=1 also did

[Bug 1390589] [NEW] Intel Wireless 7260 wifi stops working, cannot be restored by using hardware switch

2014-11-07 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

After several hours (generally) of being used, the wifi drops out
unceremoniously and toggling the hardware radio switch on my machine
does nothing to restore connectivity.

After this occurs, I am unable to see any access points.

Rebooting the machine solves the issue, until it happens again.

2014-11-05 Thread Asif Youssuff
The new BIOS did not resolve the issue, however creating
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf

with the contents:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight" # use your backlight that works here
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

works to workaround it.

$  sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Bug 1388636] [NEW] Lenovo v570: Brightness not changing via UI widget in GNOME shell or hotkeys

2014-11-02 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of a Vivid Vervet Ubuntu GNOME daily iso.

Adding debugging information from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight

I found that

echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

worked to lower my screen brightness, without playing with kernel
parameters.

Booting with the kernel parameter: acpi_backlight=vendor did not enable
the UI widget or hotkeys, although echo 8 >
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness continued to work.

Booting with the kernel parameter: video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0
did not allow for hotkey or widget changes of brightness.

Booting with the kernel parameter: video.use_native_backlight=1

Creating /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf

with the contents:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight" # use your backlight that
works here
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

and rebooting does resolve the issue.

[Bug 1274200] [NEW] Cuesheet TITLE not correctly being seen as album title

2014-01-29 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

As per the "standard" cuesheet syntax, if TITLE appears before any TRACK
commands, then the string will be encoded as the title of the entire
disc.

http://digitalx.org/cue-sheet/syntax/

When reading a cuesheet in Audacious, I see the name of the folder where
the cuesheet resides as the "Album" instead of the title encoded in the
cuesheet.

Cuesheet and screenshot attached.

[Bug 1093364] [NEW] 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu2 causes 100% cpu in networkmanager, sudo does not work, rebooting does not work, wifi does not work

2012-12-23 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

Using a Dell Latitude E5400.

Description:Ubuntu Raring Ringtail (development branch)
Release:13.04

Recently updaed the bcmwl-kernel-source package to 6.20. At that point,
wifi stopped working, my CPU went to 100% with Networkmanager taking all
of it, sudo did not work (making it extremely difficult to remove the
package). I noticed that when installing the package, Xorg switched me
over to a vterm, where a stack trace was shown.

Downgrading to the

 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu2

package works great.

bcmwl-kernel-source:
  Installed: 5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu4

Not sure how I can capture more information to report without network
access.
