[Bug 1134882] [NEW] [LENOVO 4236PRG] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2013-02-27 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Thinkpad T420 with nvidia nvs 4200M video card. Discrete card is
activated and Optimus is disabled in BIOS.

Send the machine to sleep.

Wake Up. Only a blank screen and non-responsive system. Only solution is
to hard-reset the computer.

After new boot up, received notification of a failed suspend/resume

As others have pointed out, uninstalling libreoffice-gtk kind of solves
the problem at the cost of some lost integration into the desktop.

How a product like this can be released to the public is beyond any
reasonable decision making. Please fix this as soon as possible.

[Bug 620100] Re: Kindprozess »exo-mount« konnte nicht ausgeführt werden (No such file or directory).

2011-06-04 Thread Austriaco
This happens in Natty. After upgrade from Maverick I cannot
mount/unmount devices from the places plugin. If this is expected
behaviour (which is anyway crappy behaviour, because it breaks
previously perfectly working functionality), then I would like to ask
what's the alternative?

[Bug 700720] [NEW] oggenc ignores --ignorelength switch, unable to process Large Wav files

2011-01-09 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vorbis-tools

oggenc ignores the command line switch --ignorelength, which should
enable it to process WAV files bigger than 2GB. In the current maverick
version (also in the upstream trunk) dumping a DVD 5.1 audio track with
mplayer and feeding the WAV to oggenc will stop encoding always exactly
after 62 minutes of audio, or to be more precise after 3728.2 seconds.

Usual command line is:

$ mkfifo ./tmp/fifo
$ oggenc --ignorelength -q1.9 -o tmp/audio.ogg ./tmp/fifo
$ mplayer -really-quiet -channels 6 -aid 128 -ao pcm:fast:file=./tmp/fifo
dvd://1

 File length:  62m 08.0s
 Elapsed time: 7m 55.9s
 Rate: 7.8349
 Average bitrate: 167.3 kb/s

The original audio track is, of course, longer than 62:08 minutes. In
this case, the track is 163 minutes, but I have tested with other DVDs
always getting the same 62:08 minutes of resulting vorbis encoded.

The problem is that mplayer sets the size on the WAV header to 2GB and
oggenc then stops when it reaches that point.

2 GB corresponds to 62 minutes for 48 kHz, 6 channels, 16 bits/sample

2*1024³/(48000*6*2) = 3728.27 s = 62m08.27s.

I attach a patch for vorbis-tools-1.4.0/oggenc/audio.c after which the
same command above processes the full audio track:

$ oggenc --ignorelength -q1.9 -o tmp/audio.ogg ./tmp/fifo
$ mplayer -really-quiet -channels 6 -aid 128 -ao pcm:fast:file=./tmp/fifo

[Bug 698338] [NEW] Error tearing down LUKS device

2011-01-06 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I have an external USB harddrive with two NTFS partitions, one of which
is LUKS encrypted. When I insert the HD hal recognizes both partitions
and mounts them correctly. When I try to unmount the LUKS partition I
get the following message in a popup error:

Error tearing down /dev/sdb2 - fs still mounted?.

The partition is unmounted but the DM device in /dev/mapper/ stays
active. From the daemon.log I see:

Jan  6 22:35:51 galar3 ntfs-3g[29282]: Version 2010.8.8 external FUSE 28
Jan  6 22:35:51 galar3 ntfs-3g[29282]: Mounted /dev/dm-2 (Read-Write, label

Jan  6 22:35:51 galar3 ntfs-3g[29282]: Cmdline options:
rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,uid=1000,umask=0077
Jan  6 22:35:51 galar3 ntfs-3g[29282]: Mount options:
rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,allow_other,nonempty,relatime,fsname=/dev/dm-2,blkdev,blksize=4096,default_permissions
Jan  6 22:35:51 galar3 ntfs-3g[29282]: Global ownership and permissions
enforced, configuration type 1
Jan  6 22:36:19 galar3 ntfs-3g[29282]: Unmounting /dev/dm-2 (LarryWD500)
Jan  6 22:36:19 galar3 hald: unmounted /dev/dm-2 from '/media/LarryWD500' on
behalf of uid 1000

But:

$ sudo cryptsetup status luks_crypto_3873f57c-7755-4c39-aaf1-1f16e780f305
/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_3873f57c-7755-4c39-aaf1-1f16e780f305 is active:
  cipher:  serpent-cbc-essiv:sha256
  keysize: 256 bits
  device:  /dev/sdb2
  offset:  2056 sectors
  size:956765084 sectors
  mode:read/write

I then have to remove the mapping manually with:

$ sudo cryptsetup luksClose
luks_crypto_3873f57c-7755-4c39-aaf1-1f16e780f305

which completes its task without error, removing the mapping.

If I don't remove the mapping manually and disconnect the HD, the next
time I plug it, the LUKS partition is not automounted (the unencrypted
partition is mounted alright but now as /dev/sdc1, whereas before it was
/dev/sdb1).

I followed the instructions from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices and produced a hal.log
and udev.log which I am attaching to this bug report.

I don't know if this problem has to do with the fact that the Harddrive
has 2 partitions, one encrypted and one unencrypted, but at the moment I
don't have any other HD with just one partition in order to perform more
tests.

I'm using Xubuntu, i.e., with Xfce and Thunar as the file manager. I
don't know if this problems arises on Gnome or KDE.

As of Maverick (10.10), this has not been fixed and now the solution I
provided above doesn't work either

[Bug 420963] Re: file command reports incorrect mime type for mkv files

2011-01-02 Thread Austriaco
Not all MKV files are wrongly detected after upgrading file and
libmagic1 to version 5.04. Only files produced by the new mkvmerge from
mkvtoolnix-4.0.0-0ubuntu3. Matroska files produced by the previous
mkvmerge are detected alright:

Mime Type Muxing application
application/octet-stream libebml v1.0.0 + libmatroska v1.0.0
video/x-matroska  libebml v0.7.7 + libmatroska v0.8.1

An inspection of the mis-identified files shows that they have a little
more info at the beginning:

$ hexdump -C new-matroska-file.mkv | head -7

[Bug 695218] [NEW] ffmpeg unable to decode 5.1 vorbis files

2010-12-28 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

FFmpeg is unable to decode 5.1 surround vorbis audio files, whether it
is ffplay or ffmpeg I get the following error message:

[vorbis @ 0xdc4880]Setup header corrupt.
[vorbis @ 0xdc4880]partition out of bounds: type, begin, end, size, blocksize:

This message is repeated many times (thousands) and then, finally this:

Similar thing happens when trying to play the file with mplayer,
although in this case, the sound is reproduced after several seconds
printing the error cited above:

$ mplayer sita-51full-10.ogg

So it seems that mplayer falls back to something else, which allows it
to play the audio file, which ffmpeg doesn't.

[Bug 694337] [NEW] mencoder ignores bitrate parameter when encoding H.264 video

2010-12-25 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mencoder

After upgrading to Maverick, Mencoder ignores completeley the bitrate
parameter, when encoding H264 videos, using ridculously high bitrates
(10Mb/s for instance).

I have tried many combinations of parameters to the x264encopts option
to no avail, so this one is the simplest in order to reproduce the
problem:

The source material is in this case DVD quality vide (bitrate ~ 9000
kbps)

As you can see, I asked to encode at 1370 kbps on the first (of two)
pass and mencoder encoded at 10305kbps. On the second pass I get similar
ouput but in addition, the encoder complains about the 2pass curve
convergence:

x264 [warning]: Error: 2pass curve failed to converge
x264 [warning]: target: 1370.00 kbit/s, expected: 328.52 kbit/s, avg QP: 10.0004
x264 [warning]: try reducing target bitrate or reducing qp_min (currently 10)

Changing the requested bitrate does not have any effect, AFAICS.

This was working just fine in Lucid. The same problem doesn't present
itself if I encode with -ovc lavc -lavcopts vbitrate=1370:vcodec=mpeg4
for instance (Xvid).

[Bug 672109] Re: Loading www.yamana.com freezes Firefox and Linux. Reboot required

2010-11-15 Thread Austriaco
I apologize for not stating right off the start i'm using 64bit.

And sorry for insisting, but shouldn't the kernel handle this in some
more not-hang-the-whole-system way? I understand 64bit flash is not
supported yet, but i think this exposes a deeper problem.

[Bug 672109] Re: Loading www.yamana.com freezes Firefox and Linux. Reboot required

2010-11-11 Thread Austriaco
Thanks for confirming. What I don't understand is why the kernel doesn't
terminate the process consuming all memory, instead everything freezes
and i have to reboot. To me, this is perhaps a regression of some type
in the kernel. I seem to remember in times past, the kernel would kill
processes consuming too much memory. I learnt that in linux every
process is strictly caged, so to speak, and one process hanging would
not hang the hole system. I mean, it is unacceptable linux is behaving
this way.

[Bug 611204] [NEW] Chart::Gnuplot should not depend on gnuplot, but on gnuplot-nox or gnuplot-x11

2010-07-29 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libchart-gnuplot-perl

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04
Codename:   lucid

libchart-gnuplot-perl version: 0.12-1

I'm running amd64 architecture, but suspect this happens elsewhere.

After installing Chart::Gnuplot via apt-get, I noticed I had a big bunch
of X-related packages installed. On a headless server these X-related
packages are unnecessary, since I will never display anything on that
server, but I'm only interested in generating plots from perl scripts
run through apache CGI.

The problem is that libchart-gnuplot-perl depends on gnuplot, which
depends on Xorg, since it was assumed the person installing gnuplot
would use it interactively, displaying and inspecting plots on a
desktop.

I uninstalled the perl module and gnuplot-x11 (leaving installed
gnuplot-nox) and then proceeded to install Chart::Gnuplot via the cpan
perl utility. The plots on the headless server are now being generated
on the fly from my perl CGI script and I freed some MBs of space (every
byte of server space has a price, better to be thrifty there).

I would however prefer to keep installing and managing my perl modules
via APT, since this way I can keep better track of upgrades and
dependencies.

even after mysql-server-5.1 has been removed, so one has to remove
/var/lib/mysql/debian-5.1.flag and run apt-get -f install to finish
installation (or better, now that you know and don't have to find out
for yourselves, remove the debian-5.1.flag file after removing mysql-
server-5.1 and before installing mysql-server-5-0).

Now I have readline and my vi-style editing-mode again.

[Bug 328881] Re: init: support logging of job output

2010-02-09 Thread Austriaco

 The way to fix that is for another developer (e.g. a community one) to
 pick it up.

I'm so annoyed of not having boot logging that I might give it a shot at doing
some C programming myself, but after bzr branch lp:upstar, i didn't know
where to start hacking :-). That might mean I'm not the proper person to
attempt this, however if anyone can point out where I can start losing my time
in the source code, I might get a little encouraged and try again :-)

One idea I had, for instance: I see that boot messages are sent to tty8,
so my first idea would be to look at the code that does that and add
functionality there to redirect a copy of this output to a file in
/var/log/ or something like that. Maybe I'm completely clueless? Any
pointers

[Bug 426027] Re: /dev/disk/by-uuid doesn't exist in karmic kernels

2010-02-08 Thread Austriaco
Downloaded the git version of util-linux-ng, compiled (without fallocate
because this fails due to absent fallocate64) and verified that the new
blkid correctly recognizes my root partition:

$ cd util-linux-ng/misc-utils
$ ./blkid /dev/sda1
/dev/sda1: UUID=f9526843-5dda-4683-9588-41b864812487 TYPE=ext3

OK, great. What am I supposed to do to correct this issue permanently?
I see that doing make install will overwrite a lot of utilities, like
mkfs, mkswap, etc. Is it safe to procceed and install the newly compiled
util-linux-ng?

Thanks,

[Bug 468323] [NEW] Fails to subscribe to RSS podcast whose title is empty

2009-11-01 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

Banshee fails to subscribe to an RSS podcast, whose title tag is
empty. Test case

http://kingworldnews.com/kingworldnews/Broadcast_Gold+/rss.xml

Banshee will not subscribe to this feed

I have reworked that podcast at the following address:

http://www.315-web.com/kingworldnews.php

The only difference between the original and the copy is that the latter
has a proper title tag. In this case Banshee subscribes, sees the new
episodes and downloads the latest one.

gPodder can subscribe to the original feed. Rhythmbox cannot, so maybe
there's a common component or underlying library between rhythbox and
banshee that is failing in this case.

the reason I upgraded banshee.

[Bug 362883] Re: f-spot slideshow fails with Mesa 7.4 implementation error: bad wrapMode in clamp_rect_coord_linear

2009-05-08 Thread Austriaco
OK, here is another clue for the puzzle.

If I prepend LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 as in:

$ LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose f-spot --debug
/tmp/f-spot.trace

slideshow doesn't work as expected, instead I get the first picture
distorted and the following images seem to pass by, but I only see an
alternating green/blue/white screen. However I can exit slideshow mode
pressing ESC.

If I run without LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 as in:

$ f-spot --debug  /tmp/f-spot3.trace

Then f-spot freezes as soon as I enter into slideshow mode.

I hope this helps to pinpoint the culprit.

If you need any more info, please ask.

[Bug 362883] Re: f-spot slideshow fails with Mesa 7.4 implementation error: bad wrapMode in clamp_rect_coord_linear

2009-05-08 Thread Austriaco
Oh, I think I installed that mesa package to make GoogleEarth work, but
now I don't remember where I got it from. Sorry.

What about this (from the attached Xorg.0.log)?

[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
[mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.

It's a pity the Xorg log file doesn't show timestamps, because now I
don't know if those errors are related to the problem at hand.

So, which other clue do you suggest we look for? I'm all for looking,
because I don't want to drop f-spot. Maybe if I try to upgrade the mesa
libraries. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Bitcollider fails to collect video metadata (eg, framerate, bitrate)
with the following error:

bitcollider: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/bitcollider/plugins/video.bcp: undefined symbol: floor

Expected result: video metadata should be collected, as in:

by prepending LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libm.so to the command line, since
floor is a function defined by libm (math library) .

[Bug 288070] Re: f-spot crashes when exporting to Zooomr

2008-10-27 Thread Austriaco
Hi Chris,

Thanks, your patched packaged worked for me, at least on my first test
exporting only one picture. f-spot was authorized and the the picture
was sent to Zooomr as expected.

The only complaint I have now is that tags are exported as one long
string instead of as several different words, for instance, if I had
tagged my picture with heidelberg, germany, the exported picture
will appear on Zooomr tagged as heidelberg germany, which is not the
intended behavior. However, I guess this should be filed as a separate
bug?

[Bug 288070] [NEW] f-spot crashes when exporting to Zooomr

2008-10-23 Thread Austriaco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

f-spot crashes when trying to authorize access to Zooomr in order to
export pictures.

My current System Ubuntu Intrepid up to date as of Oct 23rd:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

f-spot version:

$ apt-cache policy f-spot
f-spot:
  Installed: 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

How to reproduce crash:

1.- Open f-spot and import some pictures if necessary.
2.- Select at least one picture.
3.- Go to menu: Photo-Export to-Zooomr
4.- f-spot will ask you to Authorize it, in order to upload photos. Click the
button labeled Authorize in the Export Dialog and f-spot will crash.

What should have happened:

After clicking Authorize f-spot should have opened a new browser window or
tab sending you to Zooomr API authorization page, as it happens with Flickr
export. After that you would be able to click Complete Authorization and
export the desired pictures to Zooomr (as it happens with Flickr export)
The output from f-spot --debug is the following:

$ f-spot --debug

[Bug 212388] Re: python2.5 crashed with DBusException in call_blocking()

I also confirm this happens, in my case, everytime I log into KDE.
Nothing else seems to be affected though.

This also happened to me this morning, although my X + KDE session keeps
going on without any noticeable problems.

[Bug 262423] Re: [intrepid] Resume from suspend does not work in 2.6.27-1

2008-09-17 Thread Austriaco
Hi,

I can confirm this still happens with kernel 2.6.27-3

$ uname -a
Linux galar3 2.6.27-3-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 10 16:02:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

This a VIT D2010 laptop. I'm attaching the output of lspci -vv

If any other info about the machine is required, just ask and I'll be
happy to provide it.

[Bug 147606] Re: Intelfb completely b0rken

2008-09-13 Thread Austriaco
I have similar problems in Kubuntu intrepid:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release:8.10
Codename:   intrepid
$ uname -a
Linux galar3 2.6.27-3-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 10 16:02:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

The graphics card is an Intel 965GM; the relevant part of lscpi is as
follows:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Booting with video=intelfb:[EMAIL PROTECTED],accel,hwcursor as
suggested in the intelfb documentation gives the following:

$ dmesg | grep intelfb
Sep 13 01:04:45 galar3 kernel: [1.887112] intelfb: Framebuffer driver for
Intel(R) 830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G/915G/915GM/945G/945GM/965G/965GM chipsets
Sep 13 01:04:45 kernel: [1.887177] intelfb: Version 0.9.5
Sep 13 01:04:45 kernel: [1.887274] intelfb :00:02.0: PCI INT A - GSI

Sep 13 01:04:45 kernel: [1.887330] intelfb: 00:02.0: Intel(R) 965GM,
aperture size 256MB, stolen memory 7932kB
Sep 13 01:04:45 kernel: [1.887392] intelfb: cannot acquire agp

Loading the intelfb module after boot up gives the following:

$ sudo rmmod intelfb
$ sudo modprobe intelfb mode=1280x800-16 accel=1 hwcursor=1
Sep 13 01:46:14 galar3 kernel: [  729.428154] intelfb: Framebuffer driver for
Intel(R) 830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G/915G/915GM/945G/945GM/965G/965GM chipsets
Sep 13 01:46:14 kernel: [  729.428171] intelfb: Version 0.9.5
Sep 13 01:46:14 kernel: [  729.428269] intelfb: 00:02.0: Intel(R) 965GM,
aperture size 256MB, stolen memory 7932kB
Sep 13 01:46:14 kernel: [  729.436525] intelfb: Non-CRT device is enabled (
LVDS port ). Disabling mode switching.
Sep 13 01:46:14 kernel: [ 729.436552] intelfb: Video mode must be programmed
at boot time.

Also, the uvesafb fails miserably, trying video=uvesafb:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
at boot gives uvesafb: Unknown parameter `mode'. modinfo uvesafb
gives the correct parameter name as mode_option, so next boot is with
video=uvesafb:[EMAIL PROTECTED]; which gives:

Sep 13 02:22:24 kernel: [6.896009] uvesafb: Getting VBE info block failed
(eax=0x4f00, err=1)
Sep 13 02:22:24  kernel: [6.896063] uvesafb: vbe_init() failed with -22
Sep 13 02:22:24 kernel: [6.896113] uvesafb: probe of uvesafb.0 failed with
error -22

Also, the helper v86d is in the initram used by this kernel:

$ zcat /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-3-generic | cpio -t | grep v86d
sbin/v86d

If any more information is required I'd be happy to provide it.
