Re: [Bug 986724] Re: Lid state changes not detected on Samsung NP900X3B

2012-11-30 Thread Aviram Jenik
Paolo -

would you mind help pin-pointing the solution? I can confirm that the
BIOS update on its own DOES NOT solve the problem (neither kernel
3.6.6-030606-generic nor 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu above).

There must be something else besides just the BIOS upgrade and the
reset pin; did you do anything else, for example: log into windows
after the bios upgrade, change a bios settings, installed another
package/driver, etc?

Also, can you confirm your laptop version is 900xB?

BTW: Resetting the battery (using a pin in the hole on the back of the
laptop) temporarily solves the charge/discharge detection; this has
always been the case (with all BIOS versions since I bought the
laptop). The lid detection never worked, though.

2012-11-29 Thread Aviram Jenik
Doesn't work for me on either Ubuntu 12.10 nor kubuntu 12.10.
Upgrading to the latest BIOS did not solve the problem either.

@Paolo,

Try the instructions here:
http://www.zinus.de/index.html%3Fp=670.html

For installing Windows 7 on a USB drive and then booting from it. In
theory that should work.

[Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2012-08-12 Thread Aviram Jenik
For many users (including me) BIOS update appears as if it solves the
problem, but the bug 'comes back' a few days later. It's as if one of
the ACPI functions (the suspend maybe?) causes the BIOS to misbehave
again.

[Bug 986724] Re: Lid state changes not detected on Samsung NP900X3B

2012-07-14 Thread Aviram Jenik
@Bryan and @Marcin: Did you put the pin in when the computer was plugged
in? Or without AC power? And for how long, just a quick click or longer?

The reason I'm asking, is when I tried it the Motherboard got fried and
I had to go to Samsung for replacement. Before anyone else makes the
same mistake I did, it would be good to have your process better
documented :-)
