[Bug 787173] Re: Synaptic crashes when started

Hello and thanks for your reply. Sorry my late reply, but I've got the solution, I got corrupted files on my virtual machine when I jumped to my main-system and the solution to me is to wait to the virtualmachine is finished updating before I move the mouse-cursor outside the virtualmachine-window. Hope you understand my bad explanation. The problem is solved anyway but thanks for your effort to debugging a great operation system, ubuntu. update: after manually using sudo apt-get -f install/update/upgrade and finally a restart then the system is up and running fine again. just a thought... I'm not good at programming, only to use and figure out how to use applications someone else made so here's my out-of-the- blue-thought: What can be done/can anything be done, so update manager or synaptic rechecks downloaded packages? In a way like ktorrent can check for corrupted packages, automatically discard them and redownload them again before finishing is what I'm thinking about. Also, in this case of error report, it was easy for me to run those commands mentioned before to get the system up and running smooth again, but when I think of almost everyone I know, who can't those commands cause windows is the number one, will be frightened and go back to windows IF they find out they'll try linux for a little bit. I've been using ubuntu as my main OS since 2008. First time i tried ubuntu was 6.04, but I got problems fast and find out the best solution was to go back to windows. Luckily I gave ubuntu a new chance 2 years after, but how many users who don't give operation systems a second chance, looses linux let's say in a year of time? And that's sad I think. Just my thoughts about this. [Bug 618127] Re: package smbclient 2:3.4.7 ~dfsg-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage : pakken smbclient er installert og satt opp fra fø r
I was just making this bug "invalid", cause I understand the bugs are related to corrupted files when downloading and everything worket out after a cuple of minutes in synaptic and terminal. I reported it cause I was unsure at the time what bug it was, so I reported it in best intensions, visualizing the report "did matter" so I thought it was better you got one report too much than one report short. So now I mark this bug too with invalid, I guess the reports still there untill someone deletes them so if that's wrong and some bugs are interesting then U do what U have to do, as I say I THINK this bugs I'm talking about have nothing here to do so "invalid" they go! :) ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- package smbclient 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: pakken smbclient er installert og satt opp fra før https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/618127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 617946] Re: package man-db 2.5.7-2 failed to install/upgrade: underprosessen installerte post-installation skript drept med signal (Segmentation fault)
I think I finally got it :) Thanks for notifying me in a very pleasant way, I'm pretty "new" around launchpad, sending reports I've done a couple of times now, but never got a reply back. It feels good to know someone acually using the information "we" send when errors occures. My new project is to help translating into norwegian. Just to say thankyou to Canonical and all the Ubuntu-community. Have a nice day, somewhere on the planet earth.
