[Bug 905886] Re: mythtv-setup.real crashed with SIGSEGV in QVariant::QVariant()

I can confirm that choosing cancel is a working workaround (altough with
the setup in English).

[Bug 905886] Re: mythtv-setup.real crashed with SIGSEGV in QVariant::QVariant()

2012-01-09 Thread B.B. Lauret
Is this backtrace any help? If not, please point me to the right way, as
I do not have any prior experience creating backtraces.

I should add I have not found a way to use apport, as I am running this
on a headless server using X-redirection over ssh. I do not have X on
the server. Mythtv is installed using the mythtv-backend-master meta-
package. Should I use `ubuntu-bug -c /var/crash/_usr_bin_mythtv-
setup.real.1000.crash -u 905886` ?

What does 'applied' mean in this message?
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2011-June/015962.html

There isn't a new kernel in natty-updates, and in natty-proposed this
bug isn't mentioned (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/reports/sru-

Am I misunderstanding something?

[Bug 745639] Re: Xorg freezes with KMS, uses vesa without KMS

2011-05-04 Thread B.B. Lauret
I was for a time not able to test, but now I updated to the newest packages.
Now the following is happening:
-There is no more difference in using the 'nomodeset' parameter, both boot and
both render the gears with glxgears
-There is now a popup during boot with the message that the hardware is not
capable (but I think it should be)
-Then booting into the classic desktop, `compiz-check` says the software
rasterizer is in use (probably, as glxgears does only 200FPS), moreover, screen
corruption is taking places when moving windows

[Bug 745639] Re: Xorg freezes with KMS, uses vesa without KMS

2011-04-06 Thread B.B. Lauret
After updating to latest packages and booting with modeset enabled, X
does not freeze anymore. I can move the mouse and go to a virtual
terminal, but unity does not come up and does not fall back to 2d unity.
All I see is the mouse pointer and the desktop background. To get a
usable desktop (2d) I have to select 'safe desktop' in gdm. Still
`compiz-check` says that the vesa driver is in use. Attached is the
dmesg from the login into a normal desktop. Should I rename the bug
report?

[Bug 745639] [NEW] Xorg freezes with KMS, uses vesa without KMS

2011-03-30 Thread B.B. Lauret
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When starting the unity desktop for the first time, it locked up just
displaying the desktop background. As I had to use the nomodeset option
in Ubuntu 10.10 for glxgears to display anything, I also added this
option to the grub configuration file. Then the desktop came up, but
fell back to the non-compiz desktop. This has to do with the vesa driver
in use, according to compiz-check. In this state I am reporting this
bug.

More testing I have done is specifying the radeon driver in xorg.conf,
but then compiz-check says the software-rasterizer is in use.

[Bug 596963] Re: says CPU has NX capabilities but AFAICT it doesn't

2011-01-20 Thread B.B. Lauret
I have also a cpu family 15, model 3 Intel Pentium 4 3 GHz HT and also get the
NX warning message. As I was not sure which proc I really had I searched the
Intel site and narrowed it down to the following three models (based on cpu
freq, fsb freq and L2 cache size):
530/530J: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27463
530J: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27464
531: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27465

The last two support the XD (NX) bit, but the first doesn't. And as I am
really sure I have a socket 478 motherboard I am sure I have the
530/530J processor. So my processor does not have the NX bit, and thus
the boot message is not correct.

[Bug 636896] [NEW] lirc dpkg-config should split ir-receiver and remote configuration

2010-09-13 Thread B.B. Lauret
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

IR-receiver and remote used are not an integrated whole. To be able to
present user friendly options, it would be better in the dpkg configure
screen to first ask about the IR-receiver, and then ask which remote is
used. Right now it assumes that if you have a certain DVB-card IR-
sensor, you also use the supplied remote.

My case: My myth-tv backend has a DVB-card with integrated IR-sensor,
but I use the remote from that DVB-card on my frontend, which has a
homebrew IR-sensor.

Re: [Bug 388923] Re: package linux-image-2.6.28-13-generic 2.6.28-13.44 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2009-06-23 Thread B.B. Lauret
When I ran update manager again, I chose to overwrite the menu.lst.
There seems to be no backup of the old one. Everything seems fine I believe.
