[Bug 748004] Re: system becomes very slow after suspend/resume

2012-07-01 Thread Babstar
To add a data point, I recently upgraded my Dell 1555 (xubuntu 12.04)
from 3Gb to 8Gb of RAM and the problem has disappeared. In a month, I
haven't had a single failed resume. I use the computer in exactly the
same way that I always have. Interestingly I now monitor memory usage
with a widget (system monitor in xfce4), and I consistently uses 4+Gb of
RAM - the worst offender is Google Chrome - sometimes I can have 50+
tabs open. Is the issue related to memory swapping?

I wonder if other users reporting this problem also have large memory
use programs running prior to suspend. Pretty easy to test, close
everything and try suspend/resume.

[Bug 876520] Re: mouse cursor gone

2011-10-31 Thread Babstar
Interesting - sorry to state obvious, but you did run update-grub
afterwards, right?

Good point. After running update-grub it now works. Apologies for the
misleading info.

[Bug 876520] Re: mouse cursor gone

2011-10-17 Thread Babstar
The grub method didn't work for me on two machines (stock standard
Lenovo T60).

Interestingly, if I logout the mouse pointer appears in the GDM login
screen, then it works fine when I login.

[Bug 141564] Re: Konqueror/KDE: "media:/" displays UUIDs instead of foldernames

2009-03-03 Thread Babstar
I can reproduce this bug 100%. Currently running Hardy-updates, Kubuntu
latest updates.
After login, I get exactly the same result as Jared for the /media and media:/.
Clicking the CDROM/DVD icon in dolphin under media:/ gives "Feature only
available with HAL"
If I then plug in a USB stick, nothing shows up. dmesg shows the USB stick is
found

HAL seems to be aware that the USB device has been attached to the
system

sudo grep -i hal /var/log/syslog

Now If I run:
sudo /usr/lib/hal/hald-generate-fdi-cache
(there is no change to the size or md5sum of the /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache
after this is run)
and then log out and log back in I can then mount the CDROM/DVD and the USB
stick shows up and can be mounted as per normal.

I would like to help solve this bug, but I need some suggestions to give
more diagnostic information.
