[Bug 454420] Re: karmic gdmsetup removes useful options which existed in jaunty

2009-10-31 Thread Basilisk
And you broke apart a lot of what is needed by a fair share of people
who use Linux... To some of us, its not so much as "Oh, I'm using Linux
to SSH this and SSH", or "I'm emo/raging at Windows, so I'm going to bed
Linux tonight instead"... Its more about "I use Linux because its
moddable, its customizable, and because its worlds apart from the rigid
theming options provided by Windows..."

I may not be in the right place to state, but I believe that Ubuntu is
probably the easiest Linux Distro to adapt to, particularly if you are a
new user... And matter-of-factly, the majority of the potential Luxor's
that I am aware of are interesting in the visual appeal... The loss of a
customizable login screen obviously has a major impact on such an
audience.

Therefore, in lieu, I'd like to know if the login screen will return as
a feature in either an update or the next stable build (10.4).

Re: [Bug 292782] Re: Failed to Install ATI/AMD FLGRX Drivers on Ubuntu 8.10

2008-11-03 Thread Basilisk
Hello,
Isn't it Intrepid 8.10, and Jaunty Jackalope 9.04?

As for replicating it, yes I can...

My current Hardware config is as follows:

MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard,
8GB Kingston DDR2 800Mhz RAM
AMD Phenom 9600 @ 2.4Ghz Black Edition Processor
ATI HD3870x2 GPU (Core: 875Mhz, Memory: 2.1Ghz)
Coolermaster 620 Watt True Power PSU
500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM with 32mb Cache
Standard Optical drive (DVD read/write)

Did I miss out on anything?

Anyways, I had difficulties in getting the display drivers to install in
Hardy (8.04), but managed to do so after some time... Then, upon upgrading
to 8.10, I got an option to install the restricted drivers again, but can't
do it... Everytime I do, I simply says 'failed to install'... So I
uninstalled the existing drivers, and gave it another shot, now my Ubuntu
will only boot up in 'safe' mode...

Regards,
Abhishek
