[Bug 491489] Re: Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places
Something interesting happened today, I booted my Desktop machine while my nas box (Unicorn-NAS) was off... I opened up nautilus and Unicorn-NAS was listed as an option, when I clicked on it I got the same error message as before: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/Screenshot-UntitledWindow.png So I booted up my nas box (Unicorn-NAS) and issued "sudo mount -a" from terminal on my desktop once the nas box was up, and now in Nautilus there is still only 1 listing for Unicorn-NAS in Nautilus, and it WORKS!!! *odd* ? -- Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491489 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't believe the issue is the Nvidia driver... Back on #14 guitara said it was working with: nvidia-glx-185 185.18.36-0ubu NVIDIA binary Xorg driver I just checked and that's the same driver I am using now with Karmic: dpkg -l nvidia-glx-185 Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name VersionDescription +++-==-==- ii nvidia-glx-185 185.18.36-0ubu NVIDIA binary Xorg driver So something changed in 2.6.31-14-generic kernel that triggered this problem to reappear, as you'll see from #16. -- Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 491489] [NEW] Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic, and now in my Places it has one of my Shares listed twice. My share is setup via /etc/fstab like so: //192.168.1.103/RAID-storage /media/Unicorn-NAS smbfs auto,credentials=/root/.credentials_Unicorn-NAS,uid=1000,umask=000,user,exec 0 0 Now "Unicorn-NAS" is listed twice: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/places-screenshot.png When I click on one of the shares (Unicorn-NAS), I get the following: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/Screenshot-UntitledWindow.png But when I click on the other it opens up the share (as it should). Yeah, I upgraded to Jaunty 9.04, and it still remains. I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that I installed xscreensaver a while back. I have since removed xscreensaver, but the problem remains. The work-around I am currently using is I created two small bash scripts: #!/bin/sh # dpms-off.sh vbetool dpms off & #!/bin/sh ### # dpms-on.sh vbetool dpms on And then I setup desktop shortcuts for each script and then keyboard shortcuts for each script: Ctrl+Alt+0 Ctrl+Alt+1 Respectively. And now when I want to manually put my monitors in sleep I use "Ctrl+Alt+0" and to wake them up when I return I use "Ctrl+Alt+1" ** Attachment added: "dpms-on.sh" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32325724/dpms-on.sh -- Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275308] Re: Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode
After some googling I found this page: http://www.shallowsky.com/linux/x-screen-blanking.html According to this page "vbetool" seems to be the solution. Quick description of vbetool: "vbetool uses lrmi in order to run code from the video BIOS. Currently, it is able to alter DPMS states, save/restore video card state, and attempt to initialize the video card from scratch. It exists primarily in order to increase the chances of successfully recovering video state after an ACPI S3 suspend." - http://freshmeat.net/projects/vbetool/ So I tried what it said and used: vbetool dpms off And it Worked :-D !!! Wait a minute not so fast... I can't break out of it :-( The monitors are stuck in standby mode... I tried moving the mouse, slamming my keyboard against my head, ctrl+alt+del... nothing seems to break it out of standby mode. It seems that the GPU's BIOS is stuck in Standby Mode... I had to manually press the reset button on the box to get it to restart. Hmm, off to do some more research. [Bug 275308] [NEW] Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 8.04.1 (up to date) I have a dual-monitor setup and in the past I was using "Separate X-Sessions" for each monitor. I recently switched to "TwinView" and now my monitors won't go into sleep (power saving) state. I've tried changing the settings in System>Power Management>Display> "Put display to sleep when inactive for" but no matter what I set it to (for a time limit) it NEVER goes into sleep mode. I've left the computer on for hours on end, and they never go into sleep. But when I switch from "TwinView" to "Separate X-Screens" the monitors go to sleep right on time, EVERYTIME. So something is wrong with TwinView. I am fairly new to the Linux and Ubuntu community, so I don't know how to self-diagnose this issue, but if someone can point me in the right direction I don't mind posting log files etc. Thanks in advance for any/all help, -BassKozz p.s. [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
The Bug Description Says: "After a day or so of running" For me it's more like a couple of hours or minutes depending on variables I've yet to have figured out what the exact cause is. Someone over on the VMware forums has posted a way to reproduce the problem immediatly: "steps to reproduce: NOTE: I have put a lot of time into reproducing exactly the steps needed. The following is the bare minimum of what I need to do to reproduce it. Anything else is irrelevant (in my case). For example, it works fine if I switch to full screen without first clicking inside the VM. * have a vm running * switch to vmware * move the mouse into and click inside the vm * press ctrl-alt-enter to make it full screen * press ctrl-alt to revert back to windowed mode now the problem is there <<<...EXCERPT...>>> Another observation: It can also be reproduced this way: click inside the VM hold any of Shift, Ctrl or Alt keys down while moving the mouse out of the VM window Note: If I switch to the VM by simply alt-tabbing to it, then pressing Ctrl-Alt-Enter to full screen it, then Crtl-Alt to release, I do not get this problem. It only occurs when I: 1. Click inside the VM and 2. Hold any of the Ctrl, Alt and/or shift keys while releasing the keyboard/mouse to the host OS (which you obviously do when you press Crtl-Alt to revert back to windowed mode, as the cursor is then released from the VM)." Check it out here for the full scoop: http://communities.vmware.com/message/973212#973212 p.s. When is this going to be assigned to someone so we can get a fix? Another (possibly related) issue I am having is, I have the "Lock Screen" item added to my panel (Right-click on panel ->Add to Panel...->Lock Screen) and it stops working as soon as my keyboard issues arise. [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
I also am having the same problems, in the past I've changed my keyboard layout (as previously mentioned) to temporarily fix it, but I will now try using the "setxkbmap" fix that I picked up here, and I'll report back with my findings. I am using a Dual-Monitor setup so removing VMware Tools completely wouldn't be prudent for switching back-and-forth between display's (2 VM's - I run one VM on each monitor). Question to anyone using the "setxkbmap" work-around, does it only fix the problem temporarly or for the duration of the uptime (until you shutdown or reboot)???
