"sudo apt purge kodi" sorted it out. No errors on next session login.
This can be closed, but I'm not sure I have the rights.

[Bug 1492764] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2015-12-16 Thread Ben Klaasen
This happens to me running 64-bit Xubuntu 15.10 on a Dell Latitude
E7440, when unlocking the screen after it's been sent to sleep. Light
Locker Settings claims "Your screensaver settings are managed by Xfce
Power Manager [Open]"; opening that utility, it's not clear what I need
to switch off to hand control back to Light Locker without losing other
power management options. This might all be beside the point.

In any case, I'm tailing /var/log/syslog all the time; when I return to
my machine after the screen has been switched off for a time, after
presenting my credentials to unlock the running session, I'm presented
with an apport dialog stating that I'm attempting a task that requires
root privileges (I'm paraphrasing, I'll update with the full details
later.)

/var/log/syslog contains the following stack trace:

I'm fine with that. We can close the bug. I've moved on to Xubuntu
14.04, Mint 17 and Elementary OS Freya.

[Bug 990735] [NEW] Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 fails with error "Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages"

2012-04-28 Thread Ben Klaasen
Public bug reported:

Attempting to upgrade my 64-bit 11.10 system to 12.04, I encountered the
following error message:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a terminal.

First I removed old package configuration files using the instructions
here:

http://tuxtweaks.com/2011/09/remove-old-package-configuration-files-in-

...but this didn't help.

My /etc/apt/sources.list looks like this:

...so I stripped all of the non-standard sources back to the basics on

The only "Other Software" source left checked were:

Canonical Partners (binaries and source)

Once again I tried to upgrade, once again it failed with the error
outlined above.

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

2011-03-08 Thread Ben Klaasen
I'm a fresh install of 10.10 on a Samsung NC10 Atom-powered netbook.
This issue has just started to affect me. Applying the fix described in
comment 22 and restarting gnome-settings-daemon didn't fix the problem.
