[Bug 262553] Re: If ~/Desktop cannot be accessed, home folder is displayed permanently

2008-08-29 Thread Ben vK
desktop_is_home_dir was the first thing I checked, and is not set.

XDG_DESKTOP_DIR was set to "$HOME/", along with all of the other
directories I had symlinked (Music, Pictures, Videos, Documents).
Setting it to "$HOME/Desktop" did fix the problem. Thank you.

I think the behaviour should be to try the values in user-dirs.dirs,
then default to home if something goes wrong. Alternatively, perhaps the
defaults could be saved elsewhere if something goes wrong, and tested
when you log in.

[Bug 262553] [NEW] If ~/Desktop cannot be accessed, home folder is displayed permanently

2008-08-29 Thread Ben vK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu on my laptop. To keep my personal
information easily accessible, I symlinked directories in my home folder
to their equivalents in XP, including my Desktop.

This works fine until, for some reason, my XP partition cannot be
mounted (for example, if Windows freezes and cannot be cleanly shut
down), in which case my home folder is displayed on my desktop.

That's fine, but once I've rectified the problem and mounted the drive,
the desktop keeps displaying my home folder, despite options set in
gconf-editor, and after countless logouts/reboots. I expect it to g back
to ~/Desktop the next time I log in.

I'm using Intrepid Alpha 4, although the same occurred on Hardy.

[Bug 254699] [NEW] Update breaks Intel wireless

2008-08-04 Thread Ben vK
Public bug reported:

A recent update of the backport modules (2.6.24.20.22) generic broke my
wireless.

Network Monitor wouldn't show any networks. I set set the network up
again, after which it did show the network, but at zero strength (I was
sitting three metres from the router). I tried manual configuration, but
no luck.

Removing the package solved the problem for me. I only had it installed
from an attempt to get ALSA working (failed), but others may depend on
it.

[Bug 204875] Re: Cheese can only record one video-no reset-video hangs

2008-07-03 Thread Ben vK
Confirming this behaviour on Aspire 6920.

After the preview freezes, you can still choose to take pictures and
video, but these don't show up. They still are not present after
restarting Cheese.

I just checked, and I seem to have a few updates for Gnome components to
2.22.2. I believe 8.04.1 is due sometime today. Will Cheese be among
those updated?
