[Bug 1666078] Re: package nvidia-331-updates-uvm 340.96-0ubuntu3.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: there is no script in the new version of the package - giving up

2017-08-20 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Is there any way to manually uninstall this package?
I get "there are updates" every 5 minutes, about

 - NVIDIA OpenCL Driver and ICD Loader library
 - NVIDIA OpenCL ICD
 - Transitional package for nvidia-340
 - Transitional package for nvidia-340

and performing the update always fails.

Any workaround to stop this daily update request and failure?
Can I blacklist this upgrade?

[Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2016-11-15 Thread Bengt Nilsson
I tried xfce4-settings 4.12.1-11 as mentioned in #133 and indeed it "works", X
does not crash.
However, the set screen resolution is lost. When I turn on the screen again,
the desktop defaults to the highest possible screen resolution.
In my case, it means that my desktop menu bar and docky are placed outside the
screen bounds, tricky to reset.
Better than it was before, but not quite there yet.

[Bug 1597009] [NEW] service LCDd does not execute properly at boot

2016-06-28 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Public bug reported:

My HTPC computer case has a iMonLCD display with IRC sensor.
I have edited /etc/LCDd.conf to shut down the display backlight at boot.
It used to work but now the LCD display backlight does not turn off at boot.
However, if I manually do "sudo service LCDd restart" after boot the light
shuts down.
So I suspect the service is not run, or maybe not in the correct order.
I am not sure how old this is, maybe 4 - 6 months.

[Bug 1510281] Re: Screen resolution not saved between sessions

2015-10-27 Thread Bengt Nilsson
An observation:

I have two login accounts to the system, both have personalized desktop
backgrounds.
Normally, the greeter assigns the selected user's desktop background before
login.

When logging out now, the login greeter flickers and the default bluish
desktop image is shown behind the login dialog, not my normal desktop
image. If I log in in this mode, I get the wrong desktop resolution.

However, If I in the greeter dialog select the other user the selected user's
desktop background returns behind the greeter dialog.
If I log in in this state the correct desktop resolution is used.

Summary: If I am able to make my own desktop image to show up behind
the login greeter dialog by re-browsing the user list, I can log in with
the correct screen resolution!

[Bug 1166305] Re: [Audigy2 - E-mu 1010 PCIe [MAEM8986], playback] No sound at all

2015-02-01 Thread Bengt Nilsson
It seems my problem was caused by a hardware problem.
After changing my motherboard due to defective ethernet and SPDIF ports, the
EMU1212 PCIe started working normally.
I changed from an AMD combo (Athlon A2) to an Intel combo (i3).
If there really is a problem with the AMD platform in this context, I cannot
say.

to 14.04 LTS, after a while of watching regular TV and going back to HDMI
display, the TV reports "No signal". I try to revive by moving the mouse or
press the keyboard, but nothing happens. I try to reconnect the HDMI cable, but
no change. The keyboard and mouse are wireless with a USB reciever/transmitter
from Logitech. The only way to restore operation is by forced power recycling,
or connect remotely via ssh and do "reboot".
I have tried to set the screensaver and power manager so that the computer
never idles, but there is no improvement.

I have had some trouble with the NVIDIA driver, the HDMI sound
configuration is not stable. HDMI sound units come and go between boots.
Maybe it is connected.

Nothing of this happened in the previous release, 13.04LTS.
The desktop display was readily available after setting the HDMI input selector
on the TV after watching regular channels.

[Bug 1313443] Re: Cannot restore HDMI display after regular TV session

2014-04-27 Thread Bengt Nilsson
I realize that the tagging is incorrect, nothing is wrong with the release
upgrader utility as such.
My point is that the bug is related to the new 14.04LTS distribution, which is
not the same thing.
Please change it to something more suitable, I am not sure what it should be.

[Bug 1176226] Re: lcdproc for imon_lcd stopped working

2014-01-12 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Now testing the 3.13 kernel.
Now (12-jan 11:30) I have rebooted about 10-15 times, and the first two times
it flipped, but now it seems to be stable at /dev/lcd1.
I will keep the kernel and keep rebooting during the week.
However, I still think it is strange that it is /dev/lcd1 and not /dev/lcd0.

[Bug 1176226] Re: lcdproc for imon_lcd stopped working

2014-01-09 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Tested the kernel without headers briefly, did not seem to improve.
The device had stayed /dev/lcd1 for a while with the old kernel, and I would
have expected it would change to /dev/lcd0 stable with the new kernel but it
did not. It remained as /dev/lcd1 after the first boot. Not conclusive, but I
had no possibility to spend long time with the new kernel since it did not seem
completely compatible with my system, I am using the lowlatency kernel in
ubuntu-studio.

Ok, found python-launchpadlib (why call it "launchpadlib Python module" when it
is really called "python-launchpadlib"?)

[Bug 1176226] Re: lcdproc for imon_lcd stopped working

2013-12-23 Thread Bengt Nilsson
This is issue probably connected to Bug #1216366, which I reported later than
this issue.
The device used by lcdproc, /dev/lcd0, if changing between /dv/lcd0 and
/dev/lcd1 between boots, either toggling or random.
If /dev/lcd0 is set in LCDd.conf and the existing device is /dev/lcd1, of
course nothing works.

[Bug 1216366] Re: /dev/lcd* device name is not predictable between boots

2013-10-22 Thread Bengt Nilsson
To clarify further:

I have set /etc/LCDd.conf to turn off my imonlcd backlight at boot.

When it does not do that, I check what device name (/dev/lcd0 or
/dev/lcd1) I have this time, and it is then always different than what I
assigned in LCDd.conf. If I then modify the imonlcd device entry in
/etc/LCDd.conf to the current device name and then restart LCDd by
"/etc/init.d/LCDd restart" the imonlcd backlight turns off as it should.

I am pretty sure now that the the device name toggles between /dev/lcd0
and /dev/lcd1 between boots.

[Bug 1222164] Re: package lirc 0.9.0-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: Paketet är i ett väldigt dåligt inkonsistent läge - du bör ominstallera det innan du försöker ta bort det.

2013-09-08 Thread Bengt Nilsson
FYI: The swedish "Paketet är i ett väldigt dåligt inkonsistent läge - du
bör ominstallera det innan du försöker ta bort det." probably means "The
package is in a bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall before you
try to remove it".

In this state the system could not be rebooted. Boot is ok, but it cannot shut
down, it hangs.
I managed to remove lirc by killing the lircd daemon, remove /etc/lirc and the
startup script, cut power and reboot. Then uninstall using synaptic.

[Bug 1216140] Re: [GA-880GMA-UD2H, ATI RS690/780 HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2013-08-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Just found out that the proprietary driver support for my Radeon HD4200 was
dropped from version 12.10 and later.
For my own part, I decided then to give up on my motherboard graphics to avoid
endless tweaks, and got myself a Nvidia GeForce G210 card instead. Works fine,
so I am willing to drop this bug.

[Bug 1176226] Re: lcdproc for imon_lcd stopped working

2013-08-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Could be related to unpredictable/changing /dev/lcd* device name between boots.
If the device name referred to in /etc/LCDd.conf does not match the real device
name, nothing works.

[Bug 1216366] Re: /dev/lcd* device name is not predictable between boots

2013-08-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
To clarify: /dev/lcd* device name changes in between boots.

If I do "ls /dev" to find the current lcd device name after the last
boot, update the /etc/LCDd.conf to match, and then do "/etc/init.d/LCDd
restart" it works fine.

[Bug 1216366] [NEW] /dev/lcd* device name is not predictable between boots

2013-08-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Public bug reported:

I am using an imonlcd device in Ubuntu Studio 13.04.
My hardware is a Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H with a Athlon X2, in an Antec Veris
box.

After upgrading from 12.04 to 13.04 I found that the imonlcd function
was unreliable, and the reason was that the device name /dev/lcd* was
sometimes not the same as referred to in the LCDd.conf. Sometimes it was
/dev/lcd0, sometimes /dev/lcd1.

The imonlcd device name needs to be predictable and stable for lcdproc
to work.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.04
Release:13.04

[Bug 1186569] Re: Imon LCD does not display anything

2013-08-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
I have a related problem.
Exactly same symptoms and cause, except that the reason is that the device
keeps changing between boots, sometimes /dev/lcd0, sometimes /dev/lcd1. Can it
be "fixed" to a stable value?

More specifically, the message is

However,

and

/usr/src/linux-headers-3.8.0-29-lowlatency/include/config/arch/want/compat/ipc/parse/version.h

[Bug 1216140] [NEW] [GA-880GMA-UD2H, ATI RS690/780 HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2013-08-23 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Public bug reported:

No HDMI Audio out.
When I use Firefox to watch flash video (web tv) and select HDMI audio out
using "Sound settings" the flash video plays twice as fast as it should, and no
sound. If I select other audio output, the speed goes back to normal.

This has been the case for a long time, with Ubuntu 10 and 12 as well,
If I installed the amd driver using "amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1
-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run" the problem was removed. However, this is
no longer possible for 13.04, since the driver will not install due to a
missing "version.h".

[Bug 1166305] [NEW] [Audigy2 - E-mu 1010 PCIe [MAEM8986], playback] No sound at all

2013-04-08 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Public bug reported:

This Creative Labs EMU1212m PCIe is a brand new (March-2013) purchase, a
EMU1010 PCIe card + a 0202 DAC/ADC daughter board.
I have tested an older EMU1010 PCI card with the same 0202 DAC/ADC card
indivvidual and got sound immidiately. Alsamixer was correctly preconfigured,
I did not have to change anything. I have tested the 1010 PCIe + 0202 combo
under WIndows to test for any hardware problems, no problem there.
In alsamixer, I have routed DSP 0 - 31 to 0202DAC without having any output
from any DSP selected.
The EMU1212PCIe has apparently been reported to work, so this may be some new
"firmware revision(?)" that is different from previous.

In the system listing proivided you may see that the the EMU1010 PCI is
physically present in the slot.
However, the interconnecting flat cable from the 0202DAC/ADC is presently
connected to the EMU1010 PCIe card.

Finally, it is important to mention that Capture works on both cards. It is
only 0202 DAC playback that fails for the EMU1212 PCIe.
I have not tested SPDIF output.

Good Luck.

[Bug 977438] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 gnome classic panel displayed on full screen videos

2012-04-30 Thread Bengt Nilsson
I use gnome-panel with 12.04LTS.

When using fullscreen Adobe Flash player I see the top menubar plus the
bottom starus bar, plus I get some strange pointer behaviour (cannot
reach the bottom part of the screen) when I use XBMC mediacenter.

However, all these problems went away when I logged in using "Gnome
Classic (no effects)" instead of "Gnome Classic".

I am using ATI Radeom HD 4250 with the proprietary driver.

[Bug 786946] Re: Natty: Acer Veritron N270G screen resolution

2011-05-24 Thread Bengt Nilsson
Workaround found:
Disable the "Laptop" screen in Monitors.
Save as default.
Now the VGA-connected Philips 19" LCD works at the desired 1280x1024
resolution.

Works, but it is hardly the clean solution.
Why does Natty think the Acer Veriton N270G is a laptop in the first place? It
is a "Nettop", a minimal case with reasonable performance. The Atom D510
processor is common in laptops, yes, but there must be some other reason.
