[Bug 1766076] Re: USB over thunderbolt turns off every once in a while
I've been experiencing the same problem on 20.04 with a different HW setup: Lenovo thinkpad X1 Carbon gen7 (BIOS, thunderbolt controller, etc... firmware all fully up to date), and an Alogic Thunderbolt 3.0 Docking Station. It generally works fine, but every now and then, the xhci controller in the dock itself stops working causing by webcam to vanish. Interestingly no other function of the dock stops: DP still works, USB1/2 devices too such as my headset, keyboard and mouse. It may or may not be the same problem. Next time it happens I'll try capturing the relevant logs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766076 Title: USB over thunderbolt turns off every once in a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1766076/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1438938] [NEW] Add support for POWER8 NVL processor for ppc64el

[Bug 1420627] [NEW] powerpc: backport AST graphic driver updates for OpenPower
Public bug reported: The OpenPower machines such as the Tyan dev board use the ASpeed BMC which has a built in graphic controller. The driver for this doesn't work properly on PowerPC at the moment, this series of patches is a backport from upstream to fix that. It would be nice to have this in utopic kernel. Each patch in this archive is a cherry-pick and identifies the original upstream commit. All except patch 1 cherry-pick cleanly. Patch 1 needed some hand applying due to some unrelated changes that went upstream since 3.16 but the fixup is trivial. ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420627 Title: powerpc: backport AST graphic driver updates for OpenPower To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/1420627/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: This revert went into 3.16, it hasn't hit 3.13-stable yet (though it will). http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=68986c9f0f4552c34c248501eb0c690553866d6e Note that with *current* powerkvm, this will cause the console colors to be wrong (again), at least until we release the service pack which will correctly fix the problem on KVM side. If you don't apply the above revert, then the colors will be wrong with the new powerkvm.. We have to do the fix on our side otherwise X won't work properly. [Bug 739991] [NEW] Endian bug in lsusb
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usbutils There's an endian bug in the lsusb version used in Ubuntu. At the top of the lsusb.c file you can read: #if (__BYTE_ORDER == __LITTLE_ENDIAN) #define le16_to_cpu(x) (x) #elif (__BYTE_ORDER == __BIG_ENDIAN) #define le16_to_cpu(x) bswap_16(x) #else #error missing BYTE_ORDER #endif Which is then used whenever reading some 16-bit fields off descriptors. This is incorrect. All the descriptor data structures are parsed by libusb using usb_parse_descriptor() which already converts the endian of 8-bit fields. Hence, all pre-parsed descriptors coming into libusb should -not- be swapped again. Note that the upstream lsusb is even more funny, it does: #define le16_to_cpu(x) libusb_cpu_to_le16(libusb_cpu_to_le16(x)) IE. It swaps -twice- which is stupid ... but probably works :-) The right thing to do is to rip all of that out including the two call sites of le16_to_cpu() as it's all in native endian already when coming out of libusb. Allright, let's try to see more clearly before we got dig further. First of all, the only valid tests are with either Andy test kernel or 2.6.31.5 since both have my fix. As I said multiple times already, the E220 bug (and possibly the E620 bug too) are a different problem (well, they seem to be) since you claim they aren't fixed by the existing patch in 2.6.31.5. Hence, you guys should file a bug report on bugzilla.kernel.org and attach usbmon logs (or attach such logs here and I can forward to BZ.k.o). [Bug 446146] Re: Huawei E169 USB dongle not working with kernel 2.6.31-12.40
Well... there would be a way to fix all those regressions for release until a proper fix is found upstream which would be to revert the patch that went in 2.6.31.2 that caused them all. The result would be to go back to 2.6.31.1 state with the modem working but the storage side of the device not working, which isn't a big deal, since it's bugs in the USB storage implementation of the devices that seem to be causing this. Hrm, somebody is taking chances here. Nested functions are evil and forbidden by ISO C standard. I don't know what kind of black magic gcc is supposed to use to be able to find the local variables of the declaration scope when the nested function is called via a function pointer from outside. I suppose it will have to create some kind of trampoline on the stack, which means you lose non-exec stack capability for your program. It may still be a bug that it doesn't work on ppc with some optimisations, but it's really not proper C in the first place. -- mountall fails, broken (powerpc?) gcc? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 221646] Re: CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MMAP=y is a PS3 killer
Yes, I wrote that patch after I filed this bug report :-) I decided to dig a bit more into the problem and found that we needed a proper long term solution, not only on PS3 but on anything with a small memory footprint in fact (in theory, the same problem would happen with POWER5 or 6 partitions that are started with a small amount of memory for example). -- CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MMAP=y is a PS3 killer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221646 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 220524] Re: Only 86MB of RAM shown available on PS3 in Hardy
The patch should do the trick without needing to use a customer flavour of the kernel. I do recommend lowering the size of the PS3 FB though that can be done in a common kernel. I'm having paulus review the patch closely and send it to linus for .26. Once that's done I'll look into backporting it to .25.x stable and .24.x stable but you can just stick it in your package in the meantime. -- Only 86MB of RAM shown available on PS3 in Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220524 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 221626] [NEW] initscripts fails configure on ps3 install
Public bug reported: Today's hardy alternate CD install for PS3 fails to install due to a failure to configure the initscripts package. The failure root cause is that it tries to mount spufs on /spu but that filesystem is not part of whatever comes with the kernel on that installer CD. I believe the problem is two fold here: - First, I suspect it might be a good idea to have the spufs module present and loaded on the installer kernel - Second, even without that, the initscripts package should not fail configuration if it can't mount spufs, there is nothing fatal about that especially for the distro install. Finally, I found it hard to fix it up from a console because after I hacked the postinst script to not attempt the mount, I could configure the package manually fine. But the installer GUI still fails, because it retries I suppose dpkg --configure package which stupidly -fails- if the package is already configured ! (it's a bit lame). Maybe the installer should also be made a bit more smart in that area. ** Affects: sysvinit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- initscripts fails configure on ps3 install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 221646] [NEW] CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MMAP=y is a PS3 killer
Public bug reported: The hard powerpc64 kernel is having serious trouble on PS3. Basically, I have only about 88M of memory available after boot which makes it pretty much unuseable. The main reason for that is CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MMAP=y. This feature has been designed for larger memory machines such as G5s or pSeries and triggers a worst-case scenario on the PS3 in part due to how memory is laid out by the hypervisor. It causes the kernel to use a crapload of memory for the memory map and still fail to add the necessary bit to be able to register the additional memory (the PS3 memory is split in 128M boot RAM and some additional memory given to linux by the HV later during boot). I might be able to improve the situation in the kernel but not right now and it might not make it before .26 or .27 so ubuntu should probably disable that option at least for PS3 kernels. I know PS3 uses the same kernel builds as other ppc64 which can be an issue, but basically, it's unuseable with that option set. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MMAP=y is a PS3 killer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221646 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

correction... it boots, but after it switches to ncurses, I don't have any text displayed. I see the blue background, I see the red of the active button, I see the blinking cursor in console mode, but it generally acts as if the console font had been turned to ... nothing. I do see the text before it gets to the installer, it breaks about when it starts the nucurses installer. I haven't tried live as it clearly says it can't install from live due to lack of RAM. [Bug 204937] Re: [hardy] kernel oops triggered by trackerd
Note to the triagers: while I can't exclude the possibility, it doesn't smell like an architecture bug to me, more like a generic bug. The quad is SMPx4 and I was doing extensive disk accesses while trackerd was running, using multiple filesystems (ext3 and xfs), so the kernel was quite exercized in ways that I suspect a lot of users don't, which would explain why this didnt' show up on x86. I'll torture the machine see if I can get that to happen again, and maybe find out a repro-case. -- [hardy] kernel oops triggered by trackerd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204937 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 205384] [NEW] [hardy] installer failure with existing RAID+LVM setup
Public bug reported: The existing setup is: Quad G5, two SATA disks, various partitions (/boot etc...) directly there, one big MD partition on each drive. Togegher, those form a RAID0. That RAID0 is then setup as an LVM PV into with 4 logical volumes (including root, /home, etc..) I busted the gutsy install there (bad manipulation on my part) so I'm trying to install Hardy using an alternate iso snapshot as of yesterday (Mars 22, 2008). When I do configure RAID, then just Finish, it detects the MD properly and shows it's LVM PV. When I do configure LVM, it discovers all the LVs, I can then go back and see all my logical volumes in the list. I set their filesystem and mount points, so far so good, then I do finish partitionning, at which points things go bonkers: - First it says it will have to write the RAID 0 partition map to disk (despite the fact that I didn't change a thing to do). - Then it complains that the kernel ioctl failed (invalid argument iirc) and I'll have to reboot. I choose continue as the partition map hasn't changed, so it should all be fine. - Nothing happens. The installer screen is empty and nothing happens Now if I try to go to the other VT to get some logs etc... I get nothing there, just black screen on a black background. The cusor blinks fine and move, but it looks like somewhat the installer is setting the text color of the other console as black on black ! It -seems- that it works the very first time I switch VT and only gets in that black/black state on subsequent switches, thus I will try to use that to see if I can get some logs though it might be useful to guide me (that is tell me where to look for useful info). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [hardy] installer failure with existing RAID+LVM setup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205384 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 205384] Re: [hardy] installer failure with existing RAID+LVM setup
Ok so in the nothing happens state, in fact, if you wait long enough (that is something like 10mn or more), it ends up continuing the install. So it's not broken, just weirdly very very slow at this stage. So you can downgrade the bug to cosmetic, I would suggest fixing these: - It should be smarter at figuring out that it doesn't need to write back the RAID partition map when you didn't change it, the error message is confusing if not scary. - It should have some progress message or at least some please wait right after it so people know it's not actually dead (currently, it's a blank/red screen with no text) -- [hardy] installer failure with existing RAID+LVM setup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205384 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
