[Bug 553014] [NEW] Random Black Screen Crashes

2010-03-31 Thread Benjamin Prosnitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

On fresh installs of beta 1 of Lucid, a number of ATI HD-series card
users have been reporting random crashes (
http://ubuntuforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=9058263 ).
This appears to occur in Radeon HD 2400 and Radeon HD 4800 series
cards.

During one of these crashes, the screen suddenly goes into sleep mode.
The system does not respond to user keyboard input. Additionally, there
is nothing in the logs around the time of the crash. The crashes occur
at random intervals from one minute to 2 hours after booting and do not
appear to be correlated with any particular user action.

[Bug 456875] [NEW] LaTeX menu doesn't open in emacs

2009-10-20 Thread Benjamin Prosnitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: auctex

After I upgraded to Karmic, the LaTeX menu in emacs is visible but when
it is clicked an empty drop down menu appears and no options are
available. Previously, the menu listed all of the expected auctex
options.

(I cannot easily get a screenshot since emacs is focused when I press
the menu button and eats all key presses)

[Bug 326555] Re: Please package flashplugin 64bit

2009-10-09 Thread Benjamin Prosnitz
I'll throw in my vote. The 64-bit alpha is very stable. I upgraded to
Karmic recently and was appalled that it still used nspluginwrapper
(which consistently crashes for me).

Who cares if the 64-bit plugin is given the name of "alpha", when the
state of the current nspluginwrapper configuration could easily be
considered less than that?

You could also probably just put the kernel packages on a flash drive, and
install them manually.

Is there a way for me to unblacklist this until the update? The card
worked fine until I updated to the kernel with the blacklist. - Or is
this really a danger even if it works?

Can you check for a Flash entry in about:plugins ? Also check for
nspluginviewer messages with dmesg - I know my random segfaults showup
there, but it might say something about lack of libraries, etc.

I had RC1 work fine on amd64 for me, but I haven't tried RC2 yet.

For me, the calculator button works but I'm having trouble with the zoom
slider.

I tried 3 different methods described in the HotKeyResearch page. None
of them reported any keycodes, or even had any response to my presses
whatsoever.

The Gentoo site says the following about the zoom key:
"Due to limitations of X11 protocol (no keycodes outside 9—255 range are
allowed), some kernel keycode bindings should be fixed in order to make zoom
throttle and «Spellcheck» key work under X. Apply the following patch to
include/linux/input.h file of kernel sources (only 3 lines are changed):

[Bug 263172] [NEW] Network-Manager Fails to Install on Intrepid Upgrade

2008-08-30 Thread Benjamin Prosnitz
Public bug reported:

I performed a partial-upgrade from Hardy to the latest version of
Intrepid in the repositories. Network-manager has an error message
during this process.

After restarting, the network didn't work. I uninstalled and
reinstalled network manager and it worked after a restart.

I am guessing this is due to network-manager still running during the upgrade
process, so it is probably simple to disable it then.

Re: [Bug 255918] Re: Fonts Screwed Up

I figured out the problem. At some point the language was set to Armenian in
azureus, either by an update or by a mistaken click. I switched it to US
English and it looks just fine now.

Ok, thank you - that solved the problem. I forgot that it would be looking

[Bug 257403] Re: Update Flash plugin 10 to the new RC

2008-08-19 Thread Benjamin Prosnitz
It dies on the step where it runs nspluginwrapper, which (I think) isn't
run on i386. I tried to execute the nspluginwrapper command manually
and got the same error.

I was able to install the previous version of Flash 10 on my Hardy amd64
installation just fine.

[Bug 139785] network-manager doesn't work after network-manager-vpnc is installed

2007-09-15 Thread Benjamin Prosnitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-vpnc

network-manager 0.6.5ubuntu11. After the installation, the network-
manager applet disappeared and network-manager appeared to not be
working.

I uninstalled network-manager-vpnc and reinstalled network-manager and
network-manager-gnome. The network was now functioning as normal and the
applet was available. I then installed network-manager-vpnc and

[Bug 50129] Periodic Change To Incorrect Time

Public bug reported:

My system's clock frequently changes to an incorrect time (off by a few
hours or days but the minutes appear to be accurate). It doesn't appear
to occur when it syncs with network time servers because when I manually
sync it through gnome's time settings, it becomes accurate.

(This occurs in Dapper drake with the latest updates. I also noticed
that the time was off when I ran the live cd. Though I guess it could be
a hardware issue, I never have experienced this before with my system -
and it hadn't occurred with the Dapper beta which I had installed before
