  Bottom right (x,y): (216.746658mm, 277.706665mm)

[Bug 1927689] [NEW] Paper height HP OfficeJet 150

2021-05-07 Thread Benji
Public bug reported:

The height of the paper size is limited to letter size:

> scanimage -- help -d hpaio:/usb/Officejet_150_Mobile_L511?serial=MY2A9720DR
...
-y 0..277.707mm [277.707]
Height of scan-area.
...

When I try to scan a A4 document, the bottom of the page is "cut off".
But as there is the limit, it is also not possible to set A4 as size:

> scanimage -x 210 -y 296 -d
> hpaio:/usb/Officejet_150_Mobile_L511?serial=MY2A9720DR
scanimage: setting of option --br-y failed (Invalid argument)

I would like to look for some more details, where the limitation comes
from. Especially, as the OfficeJet 150 has and ADF, which should not
have any trouble scanning pages longer than letter size.

Where is the paper size limitation set?
Where are the properties for the device
(hpaio:/usb/Officejet_150_Mobile_L511?serial=MY2A9720DR) stored?

Thanks
Ben

[Bug 1787989] Re: adwaita icon them not found

2019-02-02 Thread Benji
I agree, that the issue is about small "a" and capital "A". This fixes the
problem for me:
>sudo ln -s /usr/share/icons/Adwaita /usr/share/icons/adwaita

Maybe, also this works (But as I'm not sure, if there are also programs, which
look for Adwaita with a capital "A", I thought having a softlink would be the
safest way):
sudo mv /usr/share/icons/Adwaita /usr/share/icons/adwaita

[Bug 1507153] [NEW] iptraf - wrong in data rate

2015-10-17 Thread Benji
Public bug reported:

# apt-cache policy iptraf
iptraf:
  Installed: 3.0.0-8.1
  Candidate: 3.0.0-8.1

In iptraf:

Statistical breakdowns...
--> By TCP/UDP port
--> ethX

The bottom of the screen (status bar) now shows (example values):
"Protocol data rates (kbytes/s): 0,00 in50,00 out   50,00 total"

Bug:
The "in" rate always stays 0,00 (and therefore the our rate equals always the
total rate). The statistics above show corectly, that data is send or
received. But regardless of in or out data, only an (average) out value ist
shown (even if only data is received).

Expected:
Outgoing packages/data should be used for the out value calculation and
incoming packages/data for the in data calculation.

Example:
Two connections:
TCP/http --> Receiving data (for example a online-straming-video is playing)
TCP/ssh --> Sending data (backup to a remote computer)

For both connections the status bar schows:
"Protocol data rates (kbytes/s): 0,00 inXX,00 out   XX,00 total"

Same here with xfce and 14.04
nm-applet is shown as running process (ps ax), but no icon is shown.
Starting it with sudo (sudo nm-applet) make the icon appear.

INHO: Since it affects several distributions, the affected packed should
be changed to "nm-applet" and not "lxpanel", hence the same issu doesn't
need to have the same bug-report just with other distributions and
panel-packages

[Bug 939545] Re: Cannot locate xindy module for language

2013-09-12 Thread Benji
The problem is, that xindy looks for those files:
utf8-lang.xdy
utf8-test.xdy
utf8.xdy

A pretty easy (and in my opinion uncritical) fix is the following:
cd /usr/share/xindy/lang/spanish
sudo su
ln -s modern-utf8-lang.xdy utf8-lang.xdy
ln -s modern-utf8-test.xdy utf8-testg.xdy
ln -s modern-utf8.xdy utf8.xdy

(you can lso choose traditional or latin, whatever fits best).

[Bug 964705] Re: System policy prevents modification of network settings for all users

2013-01-29 Thread Benji
As this and related bugs show:
Non-Admin users can't even connect to wireless networks, not already created.
This is neither an opinion nor a "wish". Non-Admin users should at least be
able to connect to wireless networks.
The cause of all effects here: Unchecking the "available to all users" box. But
the intended functionally should be to click on a available network connection
in the network-manager-applet and just connect to the wireless network. This
doesn't work at all. Therefore I would consider it as a bug. Even if the
intention is, not to allow normal users to modify system wide connections
(which is pretty reasonable), the effects it causes are bugs, which lead (for
non admin users) to the inability to use the uses in an adequate way.

Furthermore, according to the status, Debian and OpenSuse got the issue
fixed.

[Bug 914437] Re: Second display not recognized anymore; "EDID checksum is invalid"

2012-11-17 Thread Benji
I have a laptop. As soon as I connect my external monitor via HDMI,
dmesg provides the following error:

[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 254
Raw EDID:
ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 1a b3 45 07 01 01 01 01

When I connect the external monitor via VGA, it works fine.
The external monitor also used to work fine via HDMI/DVI quite some time ago.

xrandr has the following output (the external monitor in connected by
VGA and also by HDMI/DVI):

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192

   720x40070.1
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

So I can't even active the monitor by HDMI (xrandr --output HDMI1 --auto
hs no effect).

As anyone found a workaround?

[Bug 1077332] [NEW] Evince Zoom

2012-11-10 Thread Benji
Public bug reported:

When the zoom in evince is set to 100% the page is really small. (see
attachment).
The page size is correctly set to a4-paper (as you also can see in the attached
screenshot).

For showing the page at about the size of a4-paper I have to zoom in to
about 1000% (hard to determine, because the zoom-value it is not shown
at the toolbar for values of more than 400%).

So, for me, it look like there is factor 10 wrong with the zoom (1000% =
100%).

I believe so. The above is a generalization of the workaround given in
the original report. At report time we were only having a problem with
a particular piece of software (graphviz) because of the way it searches
for plugins.

[Bug 1035067] Re: Shotwell doesn't use 24-hour clock

2012-08-10 Thread Benji
Thank you Adam.

@Lucas: I like to have my programs and messages in "English" but with
all units etc. should be in German, because I live there and like the
metric system way better. :-) Which should be no problem, because
that's what the different locales are for.

[Bug 1035067] [NEW] Shotwell doesn't use 24-hour clock

2012-08-09 Thread Benji
Public bug reported:

Here are my settings for "locale":
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

The time should be displayed in a 24-hour time format. Other programs
respect this issue. But shotwell only shows the am/pm time (12-hour
time) in the picture information.

According to Bug 689055
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/689055) this
bug should have been fixed in version 0.8. The current version in Ubuntu
is 0.12.3. For me, the bug remains.

** Affects: shotwell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 575985] Re: kernel: [...] i915 0000:00:02.0: LVDS-1: EDID invalid.

2012-08-05 Thread Benji
I have an Jujitsu Siemens external monitor connected to my Samsung
laptop. Bevore I upgraded Ubuntu, the monitor worked fine. Now I'm stuck
to my laptop monitor and can't use the external monitor. Got the same
error:

[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 254
i915 :00:02.0: HDMI-A-1: EDID block 0 invalid.

This is a pretty annoying bug...

2012-04-29 Thread Benji
I got the same issue with a Lenovo S10: After suspend the display remains black
and I can't get it waked up. Also SSH connections fails.
I tried kernel 3.4 RC4, which doesn't help. Also the proposted workarround with
intel_idle.max_cstate=0 isn't working on my 32-bit machine.

If I got it right, the key listed in /usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-archive-

Bus seems to affect a bunch of people:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1965895

The same error appears for

skype and skype-bin

installed.

Workarround: Uninstall Skype, Adobe Flash and Acroread. Update works and
packages can  be reinstalled.

This bug should be fixed asap, because Ubuntu also aimes to non skilled

[Bug 959352] Re: Ephemeral containers have "/rootfs" prefix in /proc/self/maps entries

2012-03-28 Thread Benji York
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise staging

** Description changed:

  Ephemeral containers (but not non-ephemeral ones) have all of their
  /proc/*/maps entries prefixed with "/rootfs". One problem this causes
  is that graphviz uses /proc/self/maps to locate its plugins. That means
  that some of the plugins can not be loaded.

  To reproduce the problem with dot, run this command:

  dot -Tcmapx < /dev/null

  No output is expected, however because of the bug this output is
  produced:

  Format: "cmapx" not recognized. Use one of: dia hpgl mif mp pcl pic
  vtx

  A workaround for the problem with graphviz is to make the plugins
  available at the path it is expecting:

  mkdir -p /rootfs/usr/lib
  ln -s /usr/lib/graphviz /rootfs/usr/lib/graphviz

[Bug 874434] Re: Can no longer tab between file/app results in Dash

2012-03-21 Thread Benji York
I will claim that this is a regression, since 1) it is a change in
behavior and 2) the previous behavior is widespread in other interfaces.

The Firefox address bar behavior has made tab completion the expected
behavior even for people not otherwise exposed to tab completion (e.g.,
in shells).

True, this is a work-arround. But you have to enter the SSID. Most Ubuntu users
would not expect the aboved described behavior, which is especially anouing,
when there is a "cyrpical" network-name like "Net-343-St-12".

[Bug 951464] Re: Wireless connections in network-manager-applet not editable

2012-03-12 Thread Benji
Simmilar for me: It only appers with Ubuntu 12.04 Beta. But it would be
really announing if this bug would ship out with 12.04 LTS.

The bug does not apply on all wireless connections.

For me the connection was a "eduroam" network (roaming network in the
education and research area in whole Germany). In order to connect to
the network, you need to configure a "WPA & WPA2 Enterprise Security"
with a "Protected EAP". In order to do so, it schould be possible to
edit the connection, which is currently not possible.

[Bug 949956] Re: lxc-start-ephemeral keeps same MAC address, and so same IP address, as base instance

2012-03-08 Thread Benji York
I've submitted an MP
(https://code.launchpad.net/~benji/ubuntu/precise/lxc/bug-949956/+merge/96601)
to fix this.

The hostname and /etc/hosts munging is already done in lxc-start-
ephemeral (and arguably in a superior way), so I left that part alone.

[Bug 940604] [NEW] lxc-start-ephemeral ignores command

2012-02-24 Thread Benji York
Public bug reported:

When using the facility of passing a command to lxc-start-ephemeral
I can't get even the simplest command to work (i.e., touch).

This is on an EC2 instance running oneiric. LXC version
0.7.5-0ubuntu8.4.

Here's the exact command line:

lxc-start-ephemeral -o lptests -b /var/lib/buildbot/ -- /bin/touch
/tmp/hi

When I then lxc-console into the container and look in /tmp, the file
isn't there.

** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 83587] Re: HP ScanJet 5300C doesn't work

2011-12-17 Thread Benji
I'm trying to find out, which commit caused this issu.

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=sane/sane-
backends.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/tags/RELEASE_1_0_22

My first guess is a change at the avision backend.
