[Bug 196991] [NEW] gvfsd-smb uses >1GB memory after file copy

2008-02-29 Thread Berdir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs-backends

Similar problem as in #5929

After copying some files from a smb:// share to my local disk, I noticed
that the gvfsd-smb process does use 1,1GB memory, the same amount as the
size of the copied files. It seems that all the copied files are in
memory now and *stay* there. The copy command has successfully finished.

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
11139 berdir20 0 1166m 1.1g 4148 S0 54.3 0:15.02
/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-smb --spawner :1.16 /org/gtk/gvfs/exec_spaw/4

Versions used:

ii gvfs 0.1.8svn200802 userspace virtual filesystem - server
ii gvfs-backends 0.1.8svn200802 userspace virtual filesystem - backends

I have added a screenshot of the "Speicherfelder" ( Don't know the
english name, probably something like memory fields, right click on the
process in the system overview and selected there "Speicherfelder")

At the moment, it isn't an actual problem, but the process will probably
crash if one tries to copy more data than memory + swap

If I can give you more information, please tell me how :)

[Bug 86103] Re: azureus-> java: xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed.

2008-02-26 Thread Berdir
Ok, that one is a bit complexer, because the installer does unpack its
own version.

Perhabs someone does know a better way, but I think, you need to fix the
libawt.so on the fly between "Unpacking the JRE..." and "Launching
installer.."

1. Prepare two shells, on for the installer, one for the sed command

2. Save the following lines to a bash script (for exampe fixJava.sh)

#!/bin/bash

for file in `find /tmp -name "*awt.so"`; do
 echo $file
 sudo sed -i 's/XINERAMA/FAKEEXTN/g' $file
done

3. make that file executable: chmod u+x

4. enter the name of the file, but don't start it.. ./fixJava.sh

5. in the other shell, start the Maple Installer

6. Wait for the Line "Extracting the installation resources from the
installer archive...", then start the fixJava.sh script

7. Install Maple ;)

PS: the script should work for the normal java installation too.. just
change /tmp to /usr/lib/jvm and call it with sudo

[Bug 86103] Re: azureus-> java: xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed.

2008-02-26 Thread Berdir
there are multiple libmawt.so files, and opera and this bgblitz tool are
using different ones...

sudo sed -i 's/XINERAMA/FAKEEXTN/g'
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.14/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so

bgblitz:
#3 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.04/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so [0xa833f8ce]

opera:
#3 /usr/lib/j2se/1.4/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so(XineramaIsActive+0xa5) [0xb7c6f7d5]

So, look for the last used libawt.so/libmawt.so and patch it with sed

sudo sed -i 's/XINERAMA/FAKEEXTN/g'

[Bug 192094] [NEW] eric4 /usr/share/eric/modules/eric4.py Segmentation Fault

2008-02-15 Thread Berdir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eric

Sometimes, eric4 crashes with the following backtrace. So far, I
couldn't reproduce the error, it happens from time to time when I am not
directly using eric4. (Perhabs when accessing an opened file, not sure
about that.. )

(I can't upload the crash file with apport, as it does not support https
proxies)

This is the output of apport-retrace of the generated crash file.

Core was generated by `/usr/bin/python /usr/share/eric/modules/eric4.py'.

[Bug 185441] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash()

2008-02-05 Thread Berdir
Exactly the same for me.

Some additional infos:

) The same does happen for smb (I haven't tested the others, instead of /, smb
goes to the root of the share, not to the configured folder)
) Sometimes, there are multiple nautilus windows opened
) especially smb is extremelly slow, it hangs sometimes for a minute or more,
before it does display the "root" folder

[Bug 56655] Re: No good proxy conf, for synaptic...

2008-01-04 Thread Berdir
Since my test upgrade to hardy, I have a similiar probem with gksudo
*and* normal sudo.

Every application (apt-get, apport, hwdb, ...) startet with (gk)sudo
does not use the proxy and the connection times out. For apt-get I
configured the proxy directly in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/, but this is not
possible for every program.

For example, I tried to "apport-retrace" a crash report, it begins to work
until it finds a file, which is not part of a package:
sudo apport-retrace -g _usr_bin_php5.1000.crash

I hope this does help to resolve the problem.

(the php problem has to do with a self compiled php extension, so I am
not reporting it as a bug, it is only an example)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: filezilla

According to http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/net/filezilla, filezilla
has proxy-Support. However, I can't find a possibility to configure it,

http://filezilla-project.org/wiki/index.php/FileZilla_FTP_Client says
that ftp support will come in a future version.. so, the package
description should be updated.

** Affects: filezilla (Ubuntu)

[Bug 140816] Re: compiz slows to a crawl on resize of a window

2007-09-29 Thread Berdir
Ok, I found the plugin which causes this problem. I does not make any
sense to me, but this problem occurs only when the image loading plugin
for PNG is enabled.

I reinstalled everything, from fgrlx over xgl to compiz... and the
problem was gone. After that, I played around with the options, enabled
and configured some things. After a restart, the resize-problem was back
again.. after disabling all the plugins one for one, i found out that
the PNG-Plugin causes this issues.

I hope this information helps to solve this problem.

I can confirm this error, using a ATI X800XL with fglrx, output from

I am not sure, where PCIe does come from, as it is an AGP based card...
The same thing (extreme slowing down) happens from time to time, without doing
a resize.. perhabs there is something else, which triggers this issue.

Attached is a image, which shows the blue overlay.

[Bug 105875] Re: open applications do not use aviable space in gnome-pannel

2007-04-13 Thread Berdir
Update:

The problem seems to be gone...

I played around a bit with the size values and did a reboot after that.
After that, i saw a red X between "application tabs" and the desktop
switcher. It was an without name or symbol but with type Application. I
removed it then from the panel and the full space is now used again.

I have no idea if I did something wrong or the panel-itself.. perhabs a
bit of both :)

[Bug 105875] Re: open applications do not use aviable space in gnome-pannel

2007-04-13 Thread Berdir
A new user does not have this problem.

size (same for my user and a new one):

min: 50
max 4096

If I change the min size to 1100, the full space is used, but of course
also when only one application is open. This is better, but not how it
should be :)

[Bug 105875] open applications do not use aviable space in gnome-pannel

2007-04-12 Thread Berdir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The application "tabs" do not use the full space aviable in the bottom
gnome-pannel, as shown in this image:
http://web6.radon.caraweb.ch/bilder/panel.png

The problem occured first after a dist-upgrade from edgy to feisty.

If I go to the Properties of the panel and change the Option
"Ausdehnung" (first of the 3 checkboxes, no idea how it is called in
english), the full space ise used but full panel gets move- and
resizeable and is also smaller when there are not enough applications
open.

[Bug 86971] Re: Segmentation Fault when using trac with mod_python in apache2

2007-03-13 Thread Berdir
Update:

Just upgraded to feisty. The errors seems to be gone with this version.

But a new problem was, that between 0.10.2 (edgy) and 0.10.3 (feisty),
the used sqlite version switched from 2.x to 3. So I had to upgrade my
trac.db as described in TracUpgrade. It was a bit special that the
change happened in a minor version change and actually, sqlite3 itself
was not installed on my system, only the libraries.

[Bug 67750] video mode not supported error on external monitor

2006-10-23 Thread Berdir
Public bug reported:

On my external computer monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 193T) I get only a
error message "video mode not supported" during startup and shutdown.

On the laptop monitor (Dell Latitude C840, Nvidia GForce4 440 Go)
everything works fine. The external monitor is connected with VGA.

After the startup I can start "/sbin/usplash" and the splash is
displayed correctly on both monitors.
