[Bug 1241589] Re: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs)

2014-01-13 Thread Berk Akinci
This bug affected me as well; it wasted about 5 hours...
Is it possible to work around this bug by blacklisting any modules? It is
appearing to me like the liveCD initramfs doesn't take the blacklists I
attempted.

[Bug 1798162] Re: VLC failed after attempt to open a video file

2018-11-18 Thread Berk Akinci
I disagree with nVidia driver assessment. I am running this under VirtualBox
with no 3D hardware acceleration.
Also, a segfault is not an appropriate outcome in any case.

[Bug 1798162] Re: VLC failed after attempt to open a video file

2018-10-31 Thread Berk Akinci
I found this bug report because I'm having what I think is the same problem.
Open video file -> segfault.
Note: this is using Ubuntu 18.10 as a guest in a VirtualBox VM.

I've uploaded the crash file. I didn't get a "newly created bug," but the file
is at:

[Bug 652641] [NEW] debian-installer doesn't allow removing encrypted partition

2010-09-30 Thread Berk Akinci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Encrypted partitions can be created, but can't be removed.

To reproduce:
1) Use Ubuntu 10.10 (Beta) AMD64 Server CD
1.5) My storage devices: /dev/sda 40GB HDD; /dev/sdb 64MB USB stick.
2) Boot CD and get to partitioning screen.
3) Use option for Guided partitioning*, using entire disk (/dev/sda), with LVM
and Encryption.
4) At the final prompt for writing the information to disk, select "No" to fall
back to manual partioning.
5) At this point, you'll have /dev/sda partitioned w/ an encrypted partition on
it; the encrypted partition will contain LVM volumes on it.
6) Try to remove the /dev/sda1 (encrypted) partition. You'll get a warning
that it's in use; but that's expected since a lot depends on it.
7) Remove the LVM logical volumes, and remove the volume group etc to remove
all dependencies on the encrypted volume.
8) Go into "configure encrypted volumes" hoping to remove yours... No luck.
The only options are "Create" and "Finish". There is no "Remove"
9) Pressing "Enter" on the encrypted volume flashes the screen, but gives no
dialog box for manipulation.
10) Reboot to start over with manual partitioning; there is no recovery.

* Purely Manual partitioning also reproduces this bug.

Expected behavior: encrypted partitions should be removable within the
installer.

Why did it happen to me? I needed to manually partition to put /boot on
a USB stick. I wanted to let guided partitioning make the size choices
and use it as an example. However, I found I couldn't undo the
encrypted partition. It happened again when I wanted to back-track in
completely manual partitioning as well.

If any of this needs clarification, I can walk through the install again
and rewrite. Unfortunately, I'm writing this from memory.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Public bug reported:

I have modified versions of the conf file. I wanted to diff it when
prompted by do-release-upgrade. That failed with "sh: 1: pager: not

Snippet:

Setting up smartmontools (7.1-1build1) ...

Configuration file '/etc/default/smartmontools'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
