[Bug 241039] Re: [new-upstream] opera 9.6

2008-10-26 Thread Bernhard Koenig
Sorry, silly question: how do I get opera from the repos? I can't find
it even if I add the partner repos.

As to this issue, I would really support this request. Opera is
currently much more stable than Firefox, especially for flash
applications.

[Bug 286243] [NEW] intrepid: screensaver comes up ... but then doesn't

2008-10-20 Thread Bernhard Koenig
Public bug reported:

I have made the following observation in intrepid: after 10 minutes of
idle time, the screen saver comes up, the screen goes slowly blank ...
but then it goes back to the previous screen, so the screensaver fails

back to old screen).

[Bug 258185] Re: Cannot add a vpn connection through Network Manager

2008-10-20 Thread Bernhard Koenig
Don't have time right now but I will try to install some VPN software

Add button is not active.

Let me ask again: am I supposed to have extra packages installed or am I
supposed to have extra packages NOT installed? If that GUI requires
extra packages, it would be good if it simply suggests to install them
(like extra codes in totem for example).

[Bug 236046] Re: checkgmail tray background colour cannot be changed

2008-10-06 Thread Bernhard Koenig
I think a related problem in checkgmail is that in Preferences --
System Tray all buttons can be checked or unchecked, it doesn't make any
difference. I thought the idea of the system tray checkboxes (new, no
new, error) was that you might want the system tray to NOT show up in
certain cases (e.g. when there is no new mail). But this is not possible
with this dialog.

[Bug 279206] [NEW] intrepid: normal visual effects cannot be checkmarked permanently

2008-10-06 Thread Bernhard Koenig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I go to Appearance -- Visual effects then I usually have
Normal effects checkmarked. But the checkmark does not stay! When I go
out of the menu and back later, none of the items is checkmarked. (Even
though I think the system is using Normal but the checkmark is simply
gone.)

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2008-08-19 Thread Bernhard Koenig
OK, I gave this another thought and I came to the conclusion that
we should all switch back to Windows and I'll tell you why.

If we all go to our local computer store, buy the latest Windows
edition and install it on our computers then this will bring lots of
cash into Microsoft's money bags. But as we all know, this money will
not be used for research or the development of new bloatware. No! All
the money will go directly to the Bill Melinda Gates Foundation and
they will use it to help Africa. Let these guys save the world, I have
enough problems in my own life. Hence, if Bill Melinda can do
all these good deeds and raise the level of income in Africa then this
will prevent South African entrepreneurs from flooding global markets
with unbeatably cheap (or even free) products.

OK, I think you have to open the file with gedit, for example

gedit UbuntuCodeofConduct-1.0.1.txt.asc

and then paste this into the box in
https://launchpad.net/codeofconduct/1.0.1/+sign

Don't double-click the file or something like that, you have to open it
with a text editor.

[Bug 259267] [NEW] gnome-terminal is RAM excessive

2008-08-18 Thread Bernhard Koenig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Don't know if this is the right forum for that but here's a shocking
fact (Core 2 Duo machine):

gnome-terminal uses 13.5 MB RAM while
konsole only uses 4.1 MB and
xterm uses 3.4 MB.

gnome-terminal is quite a monster compared to the other two. Even the
powerful konsole is only slightly bigger than xterm.

[Bug 258579] [NEW] terminal screenlet does not appear on all Desktops at startup

Added: the teminal only showing up on one Desktop seems to happen only

1) Quit all terminals and launch a completely new one.

[Bug 258675] [NEW] awn processes pile up whenever awn is invoked

I haven't really found any pattern for this behaviour atm. But I wanted
to know if other people experienced the same.

As the version, I just installed awn yesterday and I had 0.2.? first

Don't remember, but I think this problem occurred in both versions. As I
said, I'm just using awn for less than a day and had this problem twice.

Can confirm this bug and I think it's really a bug, not just an
interesting mouse gesture function. For example, you can move the
pointer down to make the dock come up and then (quickly) move the
pointer up just while the dock comes up. If you try a little you will be
able to get something similar: the dock stays up and does not hide.
