[Bug 117133] FEISTY (final): remove usb disk : fail to eject

2007-05-27 Thread Bertrand
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I saw someone reported a similar bug in the beta 3 release (link :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/106283 ).
However, I wanted to make a different report because :
1) the bug is in the final 'stable' release
2) the error is different
3) some reports seems to be for different older releases

When you right-click the usb disk, you get a pop up message 'cannot
eject disk', and a yellow window appears on the bottom right corner of
the screen saying : "there is a data that needs to be writen to the
device HD..(device name) before it can be removed. Please do not remove
the media or disconnect the drive."

I do not have this problem under Ubuntu Edgy. And, I didn't write
anything on the drive, I was only reading/copying data FROM it.

After error appears, the drive reconnects itself (reappears as a
connected media).

If I want to remove it, I have to power the usb disk off.

[Bug 117133] Re: FEISTY (final): remove usb disk : fail to eject

2007-05-27 Thread Bertrand
Last comment : bug reported Sunday May 27, 2007
My system is up-to-date, all updates have been installed.
The bug does not occur when you type 'sudo eject /media/disk' in a shell.
It might help. :-)

2007-05-27 Thread Bertrand
I said final release, I meant the bug is in the stable release of Ubuntu
Feisty 7.04.

You will find a screenshot in attachment. (Again, the bug appears after
you right-click the icon of the usb disk and choose 'eject'.)

Thx.

[Bug 117133] Re: FEISTY (final): remove usb disk : fail to eject

2007-05-27 Thread Bertrand
I came to check for an aswer and noticed there might be confusion in my
first post.

When I typed "I was only reading/copying data FROM it", I meant :
BEFORE I tried to eject the drive, I only used it to read/copy data from the
disk. At the time I tried to eject the disk, all nautilus windows were closed,
and I had stopped all reading and copying processes.

Bonjour,

Cordialement.

[Bug 84530] Re: pdftk man page is out-of-date

seems like it is not the man page but the tool that is out of date.

pdftk in Dapper is 1.12, while feisty is 1.40... so rotate only works on
feisty.

as far as I know, a complete man page content can be found at:

[Bug 262253] [NEW] rt61: no connection established to a 802.11B WEP WLAN

2008-08-28 Thread Bertrand
Public bug reported:

My laptop had an internal neither compatible with my wireless network nor with
Linux.
So, I decided to buy a network card compatible with BOTH.

After a few searches on the Internet, I found:
http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk/products/wireless/#pid88169 (Edimax 54
Mbps Wireless PCMCIA card).

I first tried to run it from my windows xp already installed system. the
card works perfectly with my wireless network. So, now, I am sure the
network card is compatible with my WLAN 802.11b.

I install Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04) from the DVD. The card is plugged is
plugged the pcmcia slot. During the installation in text mode, it is not
recognized. At the first boot, network manager can see the ralink card
and offers to connect to wireless networks.

When I try to connect to my wireless network, it doesn't work. I type
the WEP key in gedit to make sure it is correct and then do a copy-
paste. It won't work at all. Used network manager.

lspci | grep -i "RALINK" returns -> 07:00.0 Network Controller: RaLink
RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

lshw says the module is rt61lpci

http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/rt61_serialmonkey won't solve my problem.

I tried to install the older 7.10 from my other dvd, but same problem.
rt61 won't work.

I tried manual configuration with /etc/network/interfaces (in both 8.04
and 7.10) and didn't have any more luck.

[Bug 420678] Re: [karmic] Intel WiFi Link 5300 sometimes not working on 5 GHz

2009-11-08 Thread bertrand
@Kwinz

Sorry, i should have been more precise: Both, 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections are
reliable if
the Netgear WNDR3700 settings are 54Mbps.

Mit current settings are :

Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) Up to 54 Mbps
Wireless Network (5GHz a/n) Up to 54 Mbps

Before i had both set to 300Mbps which did not work.
I did not try the 130Mbps setting though.

Confirmed:
2.4GHz works at all speeds (i had problems with 2.4G before, they are gone

[Bug 420678] Re: [karmic] Intel WiFi Link 5300 sometimes not working on 5 GHz

2009-11-07 Thread bertrand
I limited the maximum rate on my wlan accesspoint to 54M (it is a Netgear WNDR
3700).
Now i got a stable connection for over an hour.

Perhaps the driver has a problem negotiating rates higher than 54M ?

[Bug 420678] Re: [karmic] Intel WiFi Link 5300 sometimes not working on 5 GHz

2009-11-08 Thread bertrand
Tried linux-backports-modules-2.6.31-14-generic
and linux-backports-modules-2.6.31-14-karmic
with exactly the same result: Unstable connections above 54Mb/s on 2.4GHz and
5GHz.

With all driver versions the connection is rock solid if the
accesspoints (Netgear WNDR 3700) maximum rate is limited to 54Mb/s.

Did anybody see iwconfig show a bit rate higher than 54Mb/s ?

IMO the driver appears to have a problem with higher bitrates.

This bug still happens in ubuntu feisty.
I tested it with a flash key which makes udev creates the /dev/sda device node.
I used the user interface not the command line in order to reproduce the bug.
If you want some information (I will use the LiveCD) please states which files
you need and/or the command lines you need their outputs.

[Bug 105958] Intelligent planning of the scan of partitions

2007-04-12 Thread Sébastien Bertrand
Public bug reported:

The idea is to provide an intelligent planning instead of a scan every
month or 30 mounting... It's very annoying when my laptop starts without
being plugged and it scans partitions loosing a lot of power on that...

In fact this idea comes from Bonager
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=295262).

A more intelligent method for scheduling the scans could be :
- If my laptop is not plugged, the scans are postponed for 1,2 or 3 times...
- I can cancel a scan 1,2 or 3 times even if my laptop (or desktop ;) !) is
plugged.

I think it could be convenient to be able to avoid a scan sometimes, but
I understand that for security reason it should be permitted only a few
times...

[Bug 106219] Re: can't start system afer update kernel to 2.6.20-14.23

2007-04-13 Thread Bertrand LERICHE
I have the same problem and message with my computer.
It seems that module ata-piix fails to setup the IDE chipset though it worked
perfectly before latest kernel update.
Using a break=mount option on startup, I can see that the /dev/sda* files are
absent, while ata-piix is listed in /proc/modules.
I solve this by loading the old module piix: "modprobe piix" . It gives access
to my disk via /dev/hda* , so that root's UUID is correctly found when I let
the boot process resume with an exit command.

As a fix, while ata-piix is broken for my computer, I've put piix in my
/etc/initramfs-tools/modules file, before recreating the initrd.img
file.

For reference, result of "lspci -nn | grep IDE":

I'm sorry but I just received a new Dell laptop with Ubuntu preinstalled
that I instantly upgraded to Hardy and view-source works perfectly.
Since I don't have the other system anymore, I won't be able to try to
reproduce the bug.

[Bug 78068] Re: Aptitude segfaults when trying to install a package with negative priority

2008-09-19 Thread Bertrand LERICHE
Yes, aptitude doesn't segfault anymore in this case, so I guess the bug
is gone. As for apt, I don't think it's worth it since there is the
aptitude "forbid version" package option which gives more easily the
same functionality.

[Bug 78068] Re: Aptitude segfaults when trying to install a package with negative priority

2008-09-15 Thread Bertrand LERICHE
I am now using intrepid.
Using for example a test preferences file like this:
Package: alien
Pin: release v=8.10
Pin-Priority: -1

the command "sudo aptitude install alien" worked without crashing. I
tried different combination of preferences and packages. It never
crashed. When using a priority of zero (but not for less than zero) a
warning is issued.

The only remaining complaint is that according to the apt_preferences
manpage,a negative priority "prevents the version from being installed"
while, actually, it still gets installed. But as I understand it, it is
a bug from libapt and not aptitude ...

Confirmed in ubuntu 13.04 (x86 and x86-64). In claws or sylpheed which
are gtk2 applications, some modal boxes can become unresponsive with
scrollbar overlay installed (add a proper filter in claws to reproduce).
Everything works back to normal when the scrollbar ovrelay is removed.

Re: [Bug 859017] Re: PlayOnLinux 3.8 no longer supported

2011-09-26 Thread Bertrand Marc
Hi,

First of all I want to say how ridiculous and short minded it is to
deliberately break all previous versions of PlayOnLinux, without
thinking at least a sec about consequences in distributions. I mean,
guys, you are not in beta anymore, what would you say if all firefox
versions below 6 couldn't browse anymore ? All you'll earn is poor
downstream reputation and probably a fork from a user who decided he had
enough of this centralized architecture.

I am currently the Debian maintainer of the playonlinux package, so I
prepared a package for 4.0.12 (trying to follow the 12 new versions
published without notice). It is waiting for a sponsor to enter Debian.
You are welcome to use it if you want to upload it to Ubuntu directly:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/p/playonlinux/playonlinux_4.0.12-1.dsc

That said, I am not sure I'll keep being the Debian maintainer of
playonlinux for long.

[Bug 995645] Re: udevd: timeout: killing 'watershed sh -c '/sbin/lvm vgscan; /sbin/lvm vgchange -a y''

2013-10-26 Thread Bertrand Mathieu
as of lvm2 2.02.98-6ubuntu1 the bug is still here. It may appear only if
you have snapshots LVs.

It seems to be caused by this udev rule: /lib/udev/rules.d/85-lvm2.rules

It should be noted that this file is not present in Debian's lvm2
2.02.98-6.

This persons says that commenting this rule removed the problem:
http://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/wiki/HA_Cluster_with_Linux_Containers_based_on_Heartbeat,_Pacemaker,_DRBD_and_LXC#Device_Mapper_error_when_activating_LVM_volume_group_with_snapshots

And here is an interesting discussion that talks about "Snapshot cow pairing
for exception table handover failed " at boot, lvm2 and Debian udev rules (that
have changed since, I guess):

Ok. Great!

Is the UPNP supporting gateway discovered at runtime? Namely it's
the default for IPv4 with private addresses (NAT), and if no UPNP
gateway is discovered, it falls back on a bare NATed LAN.

BTW, is the port number supported in SIP address
(sip:user@IP:port) ? (that to enable several SIP clients on the
same LAN which go on internet through a NAT).

best regards,

[Bug 1028532] Re: ecryptfs-recover-private mounts in /tmp but does not decrypt

2014-07-07 Thread Bertrand Mathieu
I have exactly the same problem as described in original bug report, and
I am using 14.04 with ecryptfs-utils - 104-0ubuntu1.

Setup information: my home folder is fully encrypted.

I am attemping to mount from a btrfs read-only snapshot. My home folder
is mounted (using normal OS, not a live CD; I just want to retrieve an
old version of a file).

I run command from /path/to/home/snapshot/.ecryptfs/me, since symlinks
in /path/to/home/me are targeted at "/home/.ecryptfs/me".

I know the valid passphrase, given by ecryptfs-unwrap-passphrase.

I can type anything when asked by ecrypt-recover-private, it will
pretend it is a success, the mount is listed by "mount" command, but the
mounted folder has nothing decrypted, it's like it is a simple link to
original ecrypt folder.

[Bug 1172989] [NEW] Default sound driver crashes on 64 bit

2013-04-25 Thread Derrek Bertrand
Public bug reported:

The default ALSA (and other) sound drivers crash, resulting in no sound
on 64 bit systems. There's SDL, but SDL is resource intensive.

Errors read in part:
ALSA lib conf.c:3314:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library
libasound_module_conf_pulse.so

Problem being, that this app is 32 bit, and there is no 32 bit pulse
plugin installed.

Installing package: libasound2-plugins:i386 fixes the issue completely.
Perhaps, it should be marked as recommended.

[Bug 795991] Re: python-nids import error from python (undefnied symbol: nids_errbuf)

2011-09-07 Thread Bertrand Blackburn
I confirm this problem. If you cannot wait for a fix, you can rebuild
the package yourself :

  aptitude update
  # these packages are only needed for the build :
  aptitude install build-essential debhelper dpatch libglib2.0-dev libnet1-dev
libnids-dev libpcap0.8-dev python-all-dev
  apt-get source python-nids
  cd python-nids-0.6.1
  dpkg-buildpackage -b
  # these are the dependencies of python-nids :
  aptitude install libnet1 libnids1.21
  dpkg -i ../python-nids_0.6.1-1build1_amd64.deb
  aptitude markauto libnet1 libnids1.21
  # be careful with the hold as you will prevent any upgrade of the package
  aptitude hold python-nids

[Bug 815796] Re: make fails on Open SUSE enterprise server 11.1 (AWS ec2)

2011-09-02 Thread Bertrand Fan
I'm not sure if this helps but this does not compile for me on Ubuntu
11.04 on a small 32-bit EC2 instance, AMI ami-06ad526f, but it DOES
compile for me on Ubuntu 11.04 on a micro 64-bit EC2 instance, AMI ami-
06ad526f. 0.23 compiles on the small 32-bit.

[Bug 465675] Re: gdm not recognizing MinimalUID

2009-10-30 Thread Bertrand Anares
Same problem here. I've always created two users with UID 501 and 502,
because these are the first UID created on MacOSX. And I need to
exchange some data between users on ubuntu and osX (double boot).
