2017-04-05 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

Here is browser log when launching:

[Bug 1677258] [NEW] keyboard navigation from url search should populate field

2017-03-29 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

when searching from the url field, we should populate the url field with
the search results when using arrow key to navigate the result list.

For example:
1) type pastebin.ub
2) results show me
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/43434343434
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23232323232
3) use the arrow keys to navigate

Expected results:
the url field should be populated with the entry that has been navigated to.
The enter button should not be executed so user can modify the url that is in
the field

Actual results:
nothing is populated in the url field until a search result is selected, and
this executes the search giving user no opportunity to edit the url string

Public bug reported:

running terminal app deb on unity8 deb session, on relaunch the height

Re: [Bug 1668596] Re: Closing the lid does not suspend the device

2017-03-22 Thread Bill Filler
There will be a setting in the power settings for the user to choose
whether to suspend on lid closed or not. We should honor that setting
and always spend if the user has chosen that option regardless of what
software is running or who has what lock.

[Bug 1673563] Re: Cannot start mediaplayer-app to play videos on Unity8 session

2017-03-16 Thread Bill Filler
@renato
looks like two problems:
1) get rid of OnlyShowIn=Old
2) after doing so and launching in u8 shows an error dialog. I believe we have
code to show the file picker to choose the file and we should make sure to show
that so that app is functional on the desktop.

[Bug 1673550] [NEW] settings not remembering previous size on unity8

2017-03-16 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

running u8 desktop session

Steps to reproduce:
- open u-s-s
- resize the window to 2 column mode
- close the app with X from window control
- restart the app

Expected results:
- u-s-s should open at the size it was last closed at

Actutual results:
- u-s-s window is smaller only showing one column

This may be related to limiting the max size which we used to have? I
think we should remove all max sizing restrictions on the app, and bring
back the maximize button which is not displayed either.

[Bug 1665724] [NEW] Child window leaving fullscreen when move mouse to bottom right corner of screen

2017-02-17 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

running unity8 desktop deb session on xenial + overlay

- Launcher set to always show
1) open youtube.com in webbrowser-app
2) maximize browser
3) play a video
4) click the fullscreen button on bottom right, video now playing in fullscreen
mode
5) move mouse cursor to bottom right of screen,
6) Expected result: no change in window.

Actual result:
window leaves fullscreen mode, shows window controls and black border where
launcher usually is, bottom of window is cutoff. Stuck in this state until you
press esc, which then causes parent browser window to be obscured by launcher
again (see lp:1665723)

2017-02-17 Thread Bill Filler
Same problem occurs, after exiting child window fullscreen:
- Launcher set to always show
1) open youtube.com
2) maximize browser window
3) play a video, and press the fullscreen button
4) press esc, F11 or click the fullscreen button in bottom right to exit
fullscreen
5) Expected result: parent window is still maximized and not obscured by
launcher. Actual result: parent window maximized but obscured by launcher

[Bug 1645372] Re: support display scaling slider in unity8

Just re-tested this with latest Mir 0.26 and silo 2140

settings to add the scaling slider (uses mir api)

All of the app windows correctly scale. But the shell does not scale at
all. Obviously we'd want windows and the shell to scale together.

[Bug 1661675] [NEW] too hard to tell which window will be selected in alt-tab window switcher

2017-02-03 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

I find it really difficult to tell which window will be selected when
alt-tabbing through my window list on Unity8. The highlighting of the
selection is very subtle and there is not change to the window preview
or the icon. I thought it would get easier after using unity8 a lot but
it really hasn't.

I think the following tweaks would make it much more clear which window is
selected:
1) The app icon at the bottom should get bigger or some effect applied to it
when the app window is selected. My eyes tend to look there as it's less
cluttered than the window preview list
2) Make the border around the selected window preview thicker/darker to make it
stand out more as currently the border highlighting is very subtle
And/Or
3) Make the actual window preview larger (or some other effect to make it move
forward) for the selected window so that it's super clear which window is
selected.

[Bug 1661668] [NEW] multi-windows titles not being displayed in launcher popup menu

2017-02-03 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

Expectation is for the launcher icon popup menus to be on parity with
unity7 popup menus. Currently it is missing the window titles for multi
window apps.

Steps to repro:

Open the webbrowser-app
Via the menu, create a new window

Expected Results:
- browser icon in launcher should show 2 dots on left of icon
- right clicking on browser icon should display popup menu listing the window
titles of all browser windows that are open, selecting the title from the menu
should bring that window to the foreground

Actual Results:
- browser icon in launcher shows 2 dots
- popup menu does not show window titles

[Bug 1659435] Re: browser stops rendering all pages instead shows new tab page

2017-02-02 Thread Bill Filler
Hit this again, looks like oxide-render processes are running
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23912354/

Here is log from browser:
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23912358/

The problem occurred clicking on a link in a gmail message which attempted to
open a new tab.
Note that I can long press on a tab and open in a new window and it renders
correctly. I can also create a new private window and that works correctly, so
seems to be an issue only with the main window and not oxide rendering per se

[Bug 1659435] [NEW] browser stops rendering all pages instead shows new tab page

2017-01-25 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

running unity8 deb session on my laptop, with latest xenial + overlay

Browsing as normal, with 5 or 6 tabs open. All pages are rendering fine.
Then when I click on a link in a page that opens a new tab, I get the
new tab but the page is not displayed. It just displays the Top Sites,
Bookmarks placeholder page. The url field has the correct url and the
tab title is correct but the contents of the page never renders. Even
when I press reload.

What is worse, every tab then has this problem. None will show the page
content, all show the Top Sites, Bookmark page.

Attached is browser log, here are the relevant packages installed.

[Bug 1642977] Re: Media Hub doesn't have video backend for desktop

2016-11-29 Thread Bill Filler
the short term fix for this is to not use media-hub. Video plays well on
desktop if qtubuntu-media is not installed and gstreamer1.0-libav is
installed. I believe unity8 snap has already made these changes and
mediaplayer-app works
