This bug have two effects: 1. When you trying to create an iso image brasero creates an image with length of exactly 2097152 bytes (2Mb) 2. I'm always prefer solutions to ugly workarounds, but in the meanwhile acpi_osi=linux acpi_backlight=vendor looks better than nothing. Anyway, Ubuntu is the Linux for human beings. I don't think an average human being care of who's responsible for the bug - Asus or Linux. I think I found a little bit better solution: instead of disabling features of gnome-power-manager (step #3 in comment #17) just add acpi_backlight=vendor to the same line of grub config (and don't forget to do sudo update-grub2 after that). Works for my Asus Eee PC 1005PE (even the panel with brightness slider appears while pressing Fn+F5/F6 after that). P.S. I found solution (originally for Gateway netbook) here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1331709 P.P.S. I've just updated BIOS of my Asus P5GD1 from 1013 to 1014 and my PC was able to power off as expected. Damn it! It was the first thing I've thought a year ago, when I've discovered this bug. At the time I've seen BIOS update 1014 at support.asus.com that only Support new CPUs. I've had (and now have) P4-630, that according to Asus was supported from 1007 BIOS revision. And Windows XP was able to power off my PC even with 1013 BIOS. I have this problem too. Clean Edgy install with all updates. Right after system start screensaver (GLMatix) works fine. But after first occurrence of 'monitor sleep mode' screensaver never shows - screen just fades (as usual) and goes completely black (bug). No screensaver appears.
