[Bug 648283] Re: Brasero creating incomplete image (.ISO) files

2011-01-15 Thread BlackSir
I confirm it's fixed in brasero 2.32.1.

Temporary workaround (until brasero 2.32.1 will be released in
maverick-updates):
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/b/brasero/brasero_2.32.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/b/brasero/libbrasero-media1_2.32.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
wget

sudo dpkg -i brasero_2.32.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libbrasero-media1_2.32.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
brasero-cdrkit_2.32.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

P.S. This bug have two effects:
1. When you trying to create an iso image brasero creates an image with length
of exactly 2097152 bytes (2Mb)
2. When you trying to burn the same project to dvd (without creating an image)
brasero burns dvd with error 27 Some files may be corrupted on the disc. The
resulting disk is actually have files, but most of them just filled with zeroes
(0x00)

[Bug 513921] Re: hotkeys adjust display brightness non-monotonically on new Asus pinetrail netbooks (1001P, 1005P, 1005PE)

2010-05-11 Thread BlackSir
I'm always prefer solutions to ugly workarounds, but in the meanwhile
acpi_osi=linux acpi_backlight=vendor looks better than nothing.
Anyway, Ubuntu is the Linux for human beings. I don't think an average
human being care of who's responsible for the bug - Asus or Linux. It
just works or not (and if it just works in Windows and just don't work
in Linux, in user's perspective it's Linux's fault).

[Bug 512567] Re: hotkeys adjust brightness non-monotonically on EEEPC 1005PE

2010-03-11 Thread BlackSir
I think I found a little bit better solution: instead of disabling
features of gnome-power-manager (step #3 in comment #17) just add
acpi_backlight=vendor to the same line of grub config (and don't
forget to do sudo update-grub2 after that). Works for my Asus Eee PC
1005PE (even the panel with brightness slider appears while pressing
Fn+F5/F6 after that).

P.S. I found solution (originally for Gateway netbook) here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1331709
P.P.S. Original solution suggest adding nomodeset too, but in my case that
severely crippled video performance, so I've just removed it and everything
works fine

I've just updated BIOS of my Asus P5GD1 from 1013 to 1014 and my PC was
able to power off as expected. Damn it! It was the first thing I've
thought a year ago, when I've discovered this bug. At the time I've seen
BIOS update 1014 at support.asus.com that only Support new CPUs. I've
had (and now have) P4-630, that according to Asus was supported from
1007 BIOS revision. And Windows XP was able to power off my PC even with
1013 BIOS. I don't think my next motherboard will be Asus...

I have this problem too. Clean Edgy install with all updates. Right
after system start screensaver (GLMatix) works fine. But after first
occurrence of 'monitor sleep mode' screensaver never shows - screen just
fades (as usual) and goes completely black (bug). No screensaver
appears.

Temporary fix that works for me - kill gnome-screensaver and run it
again.
