[Bug 1196795] Re: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [inotifywait:21818]

2013-07-02 Thread Blair Zajac
I've been running CrashPlan since January 2012 and given that I've been
on raring April 12, 2013 and this bug hit on July 1st, it appears that
moving to the latest upstream kernel wouldn't indicate if its been fixed
there or not unless I run it for many months, given it took 1.5 months
for it to crop up one time. This is also a production box, running
public email and web servers. So I'm inclined not to test the latest
kernel, unless you think it's going to be pretty risk free and worth the
effort.

Let me know your thoughts.

Blair

[Bug 1073626] Re: Constant false gpu hang system alerts

2013-04-11 Thread Blair Zajac
I'm running quantal and just started getting GPU hangs on 3.5.0-26 and
3.5.0-27, the last good kernel is 3.5.0-25 which doesn't cause GPU
hangs.

Aside from the bug in apport itself, doesn't ubuntu want to know when
there are GPU hangs with newer kernels on stable releases?

[Bug 1134592] [NEW] isc-dhcp 4.2.4-5's DHCPREQUEST messages no longer match ignore regex

2013-02-27 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

After upgrading my raring VMs to the latest isc-dhcp:

isc-dhcp (4.2.4-5ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low
isc-dhcp (4.2.4-5) unstable; urgency=medium

logcheck's email now includes DHCPREQUEST messages. This is very
annoying when deployed in a OpenStack since the client does a DHCP
request every minute or so ;)

Here are some messages that are correctly filtered out:

And here are messages now appearing in the email:

such mail, you can either deinstall the logcheck package or modify

[Bug 1107400] [NEW] Request upgrade to 3.4.5

2013-01-27 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

Hello,

The latest Zookeeper is now 3.4.5 [1] which adds Kerberos authentication of
clients [2], multi-updates, an improved REST API and improved operational
support [3]. Cloudera considers 3.4.4 the first stable release in the 3.4.x
line and as such are including it in their CDH4.2 release [4].

It would be great if the Ubuntu package was updated. I've opened a bug
in Debian to request the update, which could be pulled into Ubuntu [5].

Thank you,
Blair

[Bug 1099199] [NEW] [PATCH] support resizing btrfs filesystems

2013-01-13 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

I converted a cloud image from ext4 to btrfs and this warning appears
when booting the image:

2013-01-13 20:03:05,057 - cc_resizefs.py[WARNING]: Could not determine
filesystem type of /

I put a patch to support resizing btrfs volumes up at
https://code.launchpad.net/~blair/cloud-init/cloud-init

It's a little tricker than I initially thought it would be, please
review the commit to see details on this. The patch hasn't been tested
with ext* and xfs filesystems, only btrfs filesystems.

[Bug 1096531] Re: After touch /forcefsck and reboot: Assertion failed in log_clear_unflushed

2013-01-06 Thread Blair Zajac
The one issue with the KVM image is that it'll hang for 2 minutes upon
boot and not tell you its 'ubuntu' user password.

I can reproduce this using the daily server ISO:

- Download
rsync://cdimages.ubuntu.com/cdimage/ubuntu-server/daily/current/raring-server-amd64.iso
- Start VirtualBox
- Make a new VM with the raring-server-amd64.iso
- Do a minimal install
- Reboot into the new OS
- sudo touch /forcefsck
- sudo /sbin/shutdown -r now

I never put http_proxy in my environment. So apt-get was able to download the

[Bug 975676] [NEW] README.debug refers to nonexistent gdbinit (unless -dev is installed)

2012-04-06 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

The top of /usr/share/doc/python2.7-dbg/README.debug reads:

Contents of the python2.7-dbg package
-

For debugging python and extension modules, you may want to add the contents
of /usr/share/doc/python2.7/gdbinit to your ~/.gdbinit file.

The gdbinit file is installed with the python2.7-dev package, which
isn't clear from the above text, especially that it says Contents of
the python2.7-dbg package. I would assume that installing the -dbg
package would be sufficient. Maybe add a note here or have -dbg depend
upon -dev?

[Bug 957727] [NEW] apr: update to 1.4.6 to fix svn fsfs repository corruption

2012-03-17 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

APR releases before 1.4.6 have a faulty truncate() implementation that
can cause svn fsfs repository corruption. The next release of svn 1.6.x
has a workaround for the issue, see:

http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revisionrevision=1240892

But since svn added the workaround, APR released 1.4.6 which has the fix
in it:

http://www.apache.org/dist/apr/CHANGES-APR-1.4

So updating to 1.4.6 will resolve any corruption issues in svn (due to
this issue).

Thanks,
Blair (svn committer)

[Bug 957727] Re: apr: update to 1.4.6 to fix svn fsfs repository corruption

2012-03-17 Thread Blair Zajac
Also affects oneiric and lucid. For oneiric and precise, it would be
great just to update to 1.4.6 since it's ABI compatible.

For lucid, one could take these two commits from apr's trunk and apply
them to the 1.3.x branch. I haven't done this myself, but my hunch says
it should work without much effort:

Re: [Bug 920284] Re: Sync maven 3.0.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-01-28 Thread Blair Zajac
Hi James,

That was my sense too that a merge wasn't required to satisfy maven
itself, but given I'm new to Ubuntu packaging I took on the request.

BTW, since I have your attention, what is your take on the one MIR
request in the maven sync request: libcommons-logging-java: synced, but
will require MIR of libcommons-parent-java?

Regards,
Blair

 Hi Blair

 Thanks for raising the two bug reports for packages that require merges;
As the last uploader for these packages I'll pick those up.

Looking at the changelogs I don't think that they are required to
support the sync of maven; apologies but I already requested the sync
before noticing this ticket (my bad) so hopefully it will be accepted
from the NEW queue in the next few days.

[Bug 920284] Re: Sync maven 3.0.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-01-26 Thread Blair Zajac
Since I opened this libaether-java is now in Ubuntu, the same version as
Debian, so that issue is resolved.

Here's what I did to see about dependencies, I took a fresh VM install,
apt-get install libaether-java and then dpkg -i maven from Debian. Then
used a hacked version of requestsync to compare Ubuntu's and Debian's
package versions.

--- Upstream source is newer in Debian

ca-certificates-java - 20111223 compared to 20110912ubuntu4
java-common - 0.46 compared to 0.43ubuntu2
libhttpcore-java - 4.1.4-1 compared to 4.1-1

My guess is that libhttpcore-java is the only really important one.

--- Upstream source is the same but Debian packaging is newer

antlr - 2.7.7+dfsg-4 compared to 2.7.7+dfsg-3
aspectj - 1.6.12+dfsg-3 compared to 1.6.12+dfsg-2
fop - 1:1.0.dfsg2-6 compared to 1:1.0.dfsg2-4
libaopalliance-java - 20070526-5 compared to 20070526-4
libbsf-java - 1:2.4.0-5 compared to 1:2.4.0-4ubuntu1
libcommons-jexl-java - 1.1-3 compared to 1.1-2
libcommons-logging-java - 1.1.1-9 compared to 1.1.1-8
libcommons-validator-java - 1:1.3.1-8 compared to 1:1.3.1-7
jaxme - 0.5.2+dfsg-6 compared to 0.5.2+dfsg-5
apache-log4j1.2 - 1.2.16-3 compared to 1.2.16-2ubuntu2
libsaxon-java - 1:6.5.5-8 compared to 1:6.5.5-7ubuntu1
sisu-ioc - 2.3.0-2 compared to 2.3.0-1
werken.xpath - 0.9.4-14 compared to 0.9.4-13
xmlgraphics-commons - 1.4.dfsg-4 compared to 1.4.dfsg-3ubuntu1
libexcalibur-logkit-java - 2.0-9 compared to 2.0-8ubuntu1
wagon - 1.0.0-2 compared to 1.0.0-1ubuntu1

--- Completely different versions:

batik - 1.7-8 compared to 1.7.ubuntu-6ubuntu1

--- C packages that probably don't matter:

libxcb1-dev - 1.8-1 compared to 1.7-4

[Bug 920284] Re: Sync maven 3.0.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-01-26 Thread Blair Zajac
For testing, I built Maven from its own source code in the fresh VM
using the Debian package and it worked fine.

Do you want them all listed in this ticket or separate tickets for each

[Bug 920284] Re: Sync maven 3.0.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-01-23 Thread Blair Zajac
Actually, it wasn't bad, the only additional package I needed to install
directly from Debian was libaether-java from the aether package.

Here's what works:

$ apt-get install maven2
$ apt-get purge maven2
$ apt-get install libasync-http-client-java \
  libguava-java \
  libplexus-classworlds2-java \
  libplexus-containers1.5-java \
  libplexus-utils2-java \
  libsisu-guice-java \
  libsisu-ioc-java
$ wget
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/a/aether/libaether-java_1.13.1-2_all.deb
$ dpkg -i libaether-java_1.13.1-2_all.deb
$ wget http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/maven/maven_3.0.4-1_all.deb
$ dpkg -i maven_3.0.4-1_all.deb

Doing this works with no complaints from dpkg, i.e. I didn't need to
run 'apt-get -f install'.

Another issue is if Ubuntu's dependencies are up to date to provide what
Maven 3 needs, it's not easily to tell if something in Maven will break.
Should we take a precise system with no maven dependencies installed,
install maven and see what is installed, then sync those all from
Debian?

Public bug reported:

Please sync maven 3.0.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

All changelog entries:

maven (3.0.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream final release (same as RC5).

  * Remove Michael, Ludovic and Torsten from Uploaders: I've added them by cut

[Bug 920284] Re: Sync maven 3.0.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-01-22 Thread Blair Zajac
Currently precise only has maven2 while maven 3.0.x is the current major
release. It aims to be compatible with Maven 2 [1].

[1] http://maven.apache.org/docs/3.0.4/release-notes.html

However, there appear to be a number of dependencies that need to be
synced over. If there's a chance that this could make it into 12.04, I
could get a list of dependency packages that would also need to be
synced.

[Bug 885842] [NEW] KeyError: 'method_choices' when configuring btrfs partitions

2011-11-03 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

Doing a fresh kubuntu precise install with the following setup:

VirtualBox 4.0.14
/dev/sda 32 GB
  /dev/sda1 384 MB btrfs
  /dev/sda2 2 GB swap
  /dev/sda3 max btrfs
/dev/sdb 32 GB
  /dev/sda1 384 MB btrfs
  /dev/sda2 2 GB swap
  /dev/sda3 max btrfs

I would jump into a shell, run fdisk and then create the partitions then
format them:

mkfs.btrfs -d raid1 -m raid1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1
mkfs.btrfs -d raid1 -m raid1 /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb3

Then launching the installer and trying to configure the installer to
use /dev/sda1 for /boot and /dev/sda3 for / gets the following error. I
leave /dev/sdb* alone but btrfs will mirror the data there.

Traceback (most recent call last):

[Bug 797049] [NEW] Oneiric alpha-1 cannot manually partition with too small btrfs partition

2011-06-14 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Using the alpha-1 oneiric-desktop-amd64.iso on VirtualBox on a 10.6 Mac,
partitioning the system as follows:

/boot 128 MB btrfs
swap 512 MB
/ 16 GB btrfs

The /boot partition fails to be formatted. It appears the error is:

Jun 14 01:21:30 ubuntu partman: device /dev/sda1 is too small (must be
at least 256 MB)

I believe the installer should warn about this.

This is with ubiquity 2.7.4.

Even besides this, at this point, the installer's dialog cannot be
closed and it basically becomes useless. The easy way to recover is to
reboot off the CD.

[Bug 450290] Re: empathy crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance()

2009-10-15 Thread Blair Zajac
I just updated to empathy 2.28.0.1-1ubuntu6 and the core dump still
happens.

Should we reopen this ticket?

[Bug 450290] Re: empathy crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance()

2009-10-14 Thread Blair Zajac
Answering Ken's question for my case.

I upgraded to empathy from pidgin roughly a week ago and I've been
using it daily since then and it's been working great.

However, this morning, immediately upon launching it, it core dumps
just after the gnome key chain password window appears.

I just did a

apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade

and I still get the crash. Should I see the fix yet?

Blair

[Bug 450290] Re: empathy crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance()

2009-10-14 Thread Blair Zajac
I am running Gnome.

Is this the first time you have no empathy?

No. I upgraded to empathy from pidgin roughly a week ago and I've been
using it daily since then and it's been working great.

Is there already accounts setup for use in empathy?

Yes, I've been successfully logging into Yahoo for the last week.

Had you been using pidgin before on this same install (or using the same
home directory)?

Yes, I was using pidgin before empathy but successfully used empathy
up to today.

If so, did you get prompted to import you account settings

Yes, I did get prompted.

Regards,
Blair
