[Bug 1906601] Re: FBDEV in use with amdgpu and there is no /dev/dri/card0 (hardware is AMD/ATI Renoir [1002:1636])

2020-12-03 Thread Blaise Mariner
Thanks Daniel and Timo, your help is greatly appreciated.

I updated to 20.10 and things appear to be a lot different in my
display. The HDMI works, the night light works, and now xrandr shows an
extensive output for my display. I wish I knew it was this simple awhile
ago haha! Let me know if you would like me to attach any of the output
commands in my new system.

I did not need to update to the hwe kernal. I am just using the generic
kernal (I will paste the version of the kernal that I am running below).
I was going to do the hwe kernal update like you recommended, however, I
don't want to fix what is not broken. Unless you recommend that I update
to the linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge like recommended above. Let me know
if that is the case (if this is the case, please confirm that you would
recommend installing linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge opposed to installing
linux-generic-hwe-20.10-edge, if that is a thing).

Again, thank you both so much.

2020-12-02 Thread Blaise Mariner

lshw -c video gives same result of unclaimed video. Night light and HDMI

[Bug 1906525] [NEW] Display + HDMI not working properly. I suspect the automatically installed driver.

2020-12-02 Thread Blaise Mariner
Public bug reported:

My display is not working properly. Ryzen 7, Radeon graphics ASUS
Vivobook laptop. Display night light does not work and the HDMI port
does not work as evidence. Furthermore, the display commands seem to
signify that there is a driver that is not installed. But it was
installed automatically and there is not selection that I can make in
the additional drivers tab of the software update program.

I reinstalled ubuntu 20.04 LTS to uninstall the graphics driver that had been
freezing my computer non-stop in search of a way to get ubuntu bug support
(support is not provided when using the driver amd reccomends using).
(Screenfreeze bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu/+bug/1900777)

So, there appears to be a driver installed. However, the display is
unclaimed. (see below). I switched from gdm3 to lightdm, as that was
recommended in someone’s answer but did me no good. I have not switched
back.

blaise@blaise-VivoBook2:~$ sudo lshw -c video
[sudo] password for blaise:
  *-display UNCLAIMED
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: Renoir

   configuration: latency=0
   resources: memory:d000-dfff memory:e000-e01f
ioport:e000(size=256) memory:fe70-fe77

xrandr gives failed to get size of gamma for output default. This proves
further evidence to me that the incorrect driver is not being used.

Furthermore, the night light function and the HDMI functionality does
not work. I spent my whole work day googling for a solution and trying
various things yesterday, but the vast majority of solutions recommend
installing a driver that has previously given me freezes. I can include
all the sites that tI have visited to try and solve this problem upon
request (Warning this list exceeds 50). All the help is greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

I would also like to add that the night light function and HDMI external
monitors seem to work in windows if I select to boot into that OS.
Thanks.

[Bug 1900777] Re: [amdgpu] Screen freeze with AMD/ATI Renoir

2020-12-01 Thread Blaise Mariner
Hi Daniel, the driver that I have with ubuntu's support (the one that is
downloaded automatically) is giving me some problems. No freezes yet
(it's been around 6 hours).

The first problem is that the display does not seem to be claimed.

blaise@blaise-VivoBook2:~$ sudo lshw -c video
[sudo] password for blaise:
  *-display UNCLAIMED
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: Renoir
vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
   physical id: 0
   bus info: pci@:03:00.0
   version: c2
   width: 64 bits
   clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm pciexpress msi msix vga_controller bus_master cap_list
   configuration: latency=0
   resources: memory:d000-dfff memory:e000-e01f
ioport:e000(size=256) memory:fe70-fe77

This I believe leads to the following problems in which the night light
does not work. (when I had the driver installed from the amd website it
did work). And similarly, I cannot attach an HDMI external monitor to my
computer anymore, where previously with the other driver I could.

Please let me know what steps I can take to resolve these issues. I have
gone through the internet and many suggestions just tell me to install
the driver from the amd site. but I do not want something that Ubuntu
does not support or freezes on me. Thanks. Blaise

Ok. And when uninstalled, just wait to see if it will freeze up (and if
it does, save to prevboot)? Or? Thanks

[Bug 1900777] Re: [amdgpu] Screen freeze

2020-10-26 Thread Blaise Mariner
Thanks Daniel, and I will continue posting the prevboot files to see if
there is something that we can pinpoint. As for the amdgpu drivers,
those were not automatically detected when I installed ubuntu (that is,
if I go to the additional drivers, only the wifi chip is detected and
not the graphics displays that were needed to be installed). So I went
to the AMD site and downloaded them myself. This was needed, as without
them I could not attach external monitors, control the display, etc. I
imagine uninstalling these things would result in the same problem.
Thoughts? If not, I will continue to post the prevboot in the future.
Thanks for all the work you do!

freeze. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

[Bug 1887724] Re: [amdgpu] Xorg freeze

2020-07-20 Thread Blaise Mariner
Funny you say that there has been a problem with the Wifi on this
machine since it was solely running Windows 10. Best Buy could not fix
it and did not want to cheaply replace it. Sometimes (unable to
reproduce) the wifi loses the ability to detect networks and I would
have to reboot in order to reset the wifi connection. No freeze or
anything would occur. I have a USB-antennae that works well and works
around the problem, so most of the time now I am unaware if the internal
wifi connection stops. Thank you for the different kernel version link,
I will explore that.
