[Bug 987650] [NEW] Audio Realtek ALC889, Green/Black/Yellow Line Out, Rear, no sound
Public bug reported: When playing RhythmBox or using the test sounds. No sound comes out of the rear panel for the speakers, however sound does come out of the headphones on the front panel. Audio did not worked after I fresh-installed Ubuntu 12.04RC2 until the second-to-last update. Then it worked. Then the last update perhaps made it not work again. In Sound Settings... I tried setting the Analog Audio to different types, i.e. Analog Stereo Outputs and Analog Surround 5.1 Outputs. Both worked through the headphones (e.g. the front left and right speaker tests), but nothing through the rear panel. If I use the Pulseaudio Manager and crank up the Audio to 400 %, I can hear a faint, distorted audio from the speakers (also turned up). This could simply be cross-leakage from the front panel circuits... uname -a: Linux name 3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:39:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-23.36-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-23-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Bug 987650] Re: Audio Realtek ALC889, Green/Black/Yellow Line Out, rear jacks: no sound when front jack plugged into headphones
The syslog. ** Attachment added: WifiSyslog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/987650/+attachment/3101382/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** Description changed: When playing RhythmBox or using the test sounds. [Bug 985429] [NEW] SATA 3 error on intense disk activity
Public bug reported: On Natty: Linux name 2.6.38-14-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 27 20:04:55 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Using two WD Caviar Black SATA3 (WD1002FAEX) drives raid 0 on a Marvell SATA RAID controller built into the Asus Rampage III. Both drives have Native Command Queuing. Drive is /dev/sdb1, formatted ext4. Controller from lspci: 01:00.0 SATA controller [0106]: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9123 PCIe SATA 6.0 Gb/s controller [1b4b:9123] (rev 11) (prog-if 01 [AHCI 1.0]) This issue may be related to or a duplicate of Bug #539467. Though it is a desktop machine, not a laptop. So not power state changes caused by power cable being plugged or unplugged. I have seen references to a problem with NCQ, but I don't know if that is relevant here. I have seen references to a problem with these drives in RAID configuration, but I don't know if that is relevant here. Symptoms: 1. Transferring 200 GB of data. 2. [Bug 495430] Re: Evince fails in printing pdf document
I am using Karmic 9.10. I confirmed that my libcairo2 is at 1.8.8-2ubuntu1.1 (it was automatically upgraded). I was able to successfully print a document with a Symbol, Type 1 font that was not embedded. The issue that I was having appears to be fixed. @madbiologist: You suggested that there might be more than one bug here. Captain Chaos, Christian Mondrop, and myself all seem to have had the issue fixed. Is there another issue that you can see? Does it still exist on non-Karmic OS's? @Christian (#9): For that second document that will not print: Is it specific to the Sibelius fonts? I can't see any Sibelius fonts in it through File | Properties | fonts and the first page of that document prints successfully for me. If the issue is indeed fixed, I can mark the bug as Fix released. I will wait a day or so for more comments/confirmation first. -- Evince fails in printing pdf document https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 477808] Re: package proftpd-basic 1.3.2-3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
***Warning: I detected insecure system behavior with this bug.*** Same thing happened to me. Installed gadmin-proftpd via Synaptic. Thought I was installing a client. Realized my mistake and clicked cancel when asked to choose between standalone and inetd. Install failed after box popped up again multiple times. Synaptic, however, reported it as installed. So, I uninstalled through Synaptic. Looked at the details during the uninstall and it turned out that instead of uninstalling, it finished the install and started the server! But Synaptic now shows package as uninstalled! I had to reinstall, and then uninstall again to actually uninstall it. Because the server was started potentially without user knowledge or permission, this is a definite system security issue. uname -a: Linux xxx 2.6.31-18-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 8 14:54:52 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Steps to reproduce: 1. In Synaptic, select gamin-proftpd for Complete Removal and hit apply. 5. In progress dialog, deselect checkbox Automatically close after the changes... 6. Open the Details sub-window. [Bug 495430] Re: Evince fails in printing pdf document
Same symptoms: CUPS log files show that the document printed correctly. Printer receive light flashes then stops. Nothing comes out of printer. Printer is HP2840 on ethernet interface. I have successfully printed documents with Evince that have all fonts embedded. The documents that will not print for me have at least one font that is not embedded. They will not print from Evince, however they will print successfully from xpdf. I encountered three documents with the issue today (they contain personal information so I can not attach them here). Case 1: The culprit font that is not embedded in one of my documents is Symbol, Type 1. That document was generated with OpenOffice Writer locally on my system. Case 2,3: The non-embedded fonts are Helvetica, Helvetica-Bold, and Helvetica-Oblique. All Type 1. The document was generated by a government agency and e-mailed to me. All other embedded fonts in document are TrueType fonts. Going through log files, I can not find an example of a non-embedded font document that I printed with Evince before today. So I am not sure how long I have had this issue but never encountered it. However, today I encountered it three separate times on two separate computers before hunting for the bug on launchpad. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: evince Ubuntu version 9.10 evince 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2 Printer: Hewlett-Packard HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Document to print: http://icking-music-archive.org/scores/banchieri/BanchieriI-Recorders-Score.pdf When I activate printing (Ctr-P) and selects printing options the file is apparently successfully sent to the printing queue. [Bug 316165] Re: [intrepid] MicBoost with Intel HDA / Realtek ALC882 introduces DC-bias
Moving into the alsa-driver package, which is probably where I should have posted originally. No solution yet. I changed to Ubuntu AMD64 from Ubuntu x86 and still the same problem, so not likely kernel related. Also, I have managed to find and look at some of the ALSA driver code but haven't been able to figure out where the mic boost translates into ALC882 instructions. I think that might be where the problem is occuring. Just a hunch really. I think this bug needs to go into alsa-drivers and not linux, so I am doing that with this post. ** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: linux = alsa-driver -- [intrepid] MicBoost with Intel HDA / Realtek ALC882 introduces DC-bias https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 316165] Re: MicBoost with HDA-Intel introduces DC-bias
** Description changed: Running Ubuntu Intrepid with Intel-HDA (ALC882) sound: MicBoost does not seem to work properly. Background: == Prior to seeing symptoms (below), have never been able to get microphone to work well for Skype: - mic audio very low with 0 MicBoost (0 setting in alsamixer and gnomealsamixer). - mic audio completely distorted and nearly inaudible with full MicBoost. - intermediate MicBoost caused distortion but audible. - Skype setting let Skype adjust audio... caused mic audio to be distorted and inaudible (so did not use). Always assumed problem with Skype was some problem with pulseaudio until I tried recording from Audacity and noticed that adjusting MicBoost while recording from microphone shows four steps of DC-Offset (0 - 3). (see attached screenshot). Problem: == - According to the screenshot, MicBoost seems to be amplifying the microphone (good), but also creating an extreme negative DC-bias (bad), i.e. shifting the signal into the negative until only the largest positive peaks are not clipped. Each step corresponds to one of the four steps of the MicBoost control. + According to the screenshot, MicBoost seems to be amplifying the microphone (good), but also creating an extreme negative DC-bias (bad), i.e. shifting the signal into the negative until only the largest positive peaks are not clipped. Each step in the audio signal in the audacity screenshot corresponds to one of the four steps of the MicBoost control. Audacity has same result with Recording Device ID 0 (OSS: /dev/dsp) and Device ID 2 (ALSA: HDA Intel: ALC882 Analog (hw:0,0)). (will attach the Audacity Device Info output next) Examining the output of the alsa-info.sh script: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=386a234a728c1b20f88f717d7839651e6938f7aa shows control.17 of the AlsaCtl section: control.17 { comment.access 'read write' comment.type INTEGER comment.count 2 comment.range '0 - 3' comment.dbmin 0 comment.dbmax 3000 iface MIXER name 'Mic Boost' value.0 2 value.1 2 } This is a total SWAG, but one possibility comes to mind: Could the type INTEGER be wrong? Perhaps it should be a FLOAT and we are seeing the results of an aliased setting? If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be willing to look at the source to try and track it down. I know C/C++/Java, but I have no idea where it might be in the source (i.e. kernel?, module?, driver?).
