[Bug 1313446] Re: window disappears on toggle shade

2016-09-06 Thread Bob-El
I don't remember if I mentioned this before but I "solved" this annoying
problem last year because this issue was not getting fixed. I installed
Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. The shade works fine and the added bonus was
Mint doesn't use UNITY. Back to a comprehensive desktop. Mint is based
on Ubuntu so the transition was quite painless.

Oh. Okay. Thanks. So I guess there won't be a patch issued for 14.04, then.
That's okay by me as I prefer to follow the LTS issues anyway. Is Xenial
the name for 16.04?

I am extremely surprised and disappointed at how this bug continues to
persist for so long with no hope in sight for a fix. Window shading has
been a fundamental function present in X11 window managers for 20+
years. This feature has critically broken in Unity somewhere between
12.04 and 14.04 yet there has been no movement on fixing this bug.

Unfortunately in my office environment our computers are standardized on
Unity which makes this even more painful on a daily basis (I run KDE at
 home).

Is there any way this issue can be prioritized before more and more
releases of Ubuntu are made with this issue?

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2014-07-16 Thread Bob-El
It's not only Android devices having a problem mounting MTP devices in
Ubuntu 14.04. I have a Sansa View player that will not mount. The Icon
comes up on the vertical side panel (whatever the heck it's called I
can't remember) - the one with all the icons. If I try to open the
device, it won't open.

I have installed mtp-tools, mtpfs via the command line and, in
Synaptic, libmtpserver1, libmtp-runtime, libmtp9, libmtp-common,
jmtpfs and pythonpymtp were either already installed or installed by
me.

I tried running the command sudo mtpfs -o allow_other /media/SansaView and
the following was the result:
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.Listing raw device(s)
Device 0 (VID=0781 and PID=74b0) is a SanDisk Sansa View.
   Found 1 device(s):

no active configuration, trying to set configuration
libusb_get_active_config_descriptor(2) failed: No data available
LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to initialize device
Unable to open raw device 0

And, for the record, my Galaxy S4 mounts just fine. Go figure. Should I
submit a new bug regarding the SansaView since my phone's working okay?

[Bug 1313446] [NEW] window disappears on toggle shade

2014-04-27 Thread Bob-El
Public bug reported:

I used Unity Tweak Tool to enable Toggle Shade using middle click. When
I click to top of the window, it rolls up and disappears. A ghost
outline of the window appears and the only way to get the window back is
by using Alt-tab. Sometimes, when reselecting the window using Alt-tab,
Ubuntu freezes (crashes) and an internal error is generated. It seems to
be related to Compiz but I'm not sure. An error report was generated and
sent.

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit)
Release:14.04
unity-tweak-tool 0.0.6ubuntu1

I expected the window would roll up and I'd be left with the window's
top bar like with previous versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 684376] Re: Change 'Print to File' default to PDF

2011-09-27 Thread Bob-El
Firstly, I too, would like to mention that print to PDF should be the
default. I can't imagine for what purpose I'd want to print to
Postscript. Who uses Postscript anymore?

Secondly, I fail to understand how this script is useful. What do I do
with it? Print it to PDF??? Ha! Ha! Just kidding. But I'm not a
programmer so it's all gobbledigook to me.

I did a search for a file called nsDeviceContextSpecG.cpp on my
computer and it doesn't exist. At least, Search for Files didn't find
it. And having a look at the links provided is of no use either. Where
is this folder widget/src/gtk2/ located? Not in the filesystem root nor
in my home folder.

So after searching for a solution to this problem (bug if you will),
which, by the way, didn't originate with 11.04 (I've found it a source
of annoyance for at least 2 years), for a couple of hours I am still no
further than when I started.

[Bug 751175] Re: Time and Date Settings don't load (Natty Beta 1)

2011-05-02 Thread Bob-El
Feeling the need to add my 2 cents worth, I am also experiencing this
bug. I installed 11.04 a couple of days ago and this issue has been
bugging me. Finding and killing the indicator-datetime-preferences
process allowed me to access the settings.
