I get:

This happened to the previous linux-headers-generic as well.

True, sorry for the mistake. However I've had this error for half a year
now, through two distributions and several [edgers] drivers.

[Bug 1430276] [NEW] Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration

2015-03-10 Thread Bontius
Public bug reported:

Problem 1. if miniDVI (connected to NVIDIA card) is connected upon boot,
the desktop resolution is detected incorrectly.

Problem 2. lightdm won't start from scratch, needs to be restarted as service
on every boot, and then ctrl+alt+f7 has to be pressed repeatedly until the
login window appears, and then again repeatedly, until the desktop appears
(after which, the miniDVI can be inserted). If you skip the first repeated
pressing, you end up with a console window saying
/org/FreeDesktop/Accounts/User1000 has been changed. If you skip the second
repeated pressing, you revert to login window.
Yes, I've tried the following:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
sudo chown -R username .
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop unity unity-greeter
including setting HEED_DEFAULT_DESKTOP_MANAGER=false in /etc/init.d/lightdm

Problem 3. right now (as of yesterday), unity decorator and dash does
not apper after login, and dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ setsid unity
has to be run from lightdm, provided that you somehow manage to get a
terminal up (ctrl+alt+T does not work, neither does Alt+f2)

The result of this:

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
is:

A14
09/24/2014

Sorry for the mess, I'd be happy to provide further information, since this
laptop seems to be an outlier to all your fixes.
P.S. /etc/modprobe.d is not a file still persists...

[Bug 1382055] [NEW] optimus stopped working when gpu-manager was introduced?

2014-10-16 Thread Bontius
Public bug reported:

I had a working system a month ago, with a lucky xorg.conf that allowed the
unity desktop to use gdm as window manager, and the mini-displayport to work
(wired to the nvidia card).
I hadn't updated for a month (mid-August 2014), because it was a production
system, and then on 21 Sep 2014, after a full update and restart, gdm only
worked on the built-in screen again, only with the intel card. Nvidia-settings
suddenly is much smaller, and has a switch option, that does not work (gives an
empty warning box as response, if I try to switch to nvidia from intel).

- The result of prime-switch nvidia is Segmentation fault,
- The gpu manager log says Has nvidia? no,
- Xorg.0.log says Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0)

- sudo modprobe nvidia finishes without error, only, because I added the
line

alias nvidia nvidia-331
to
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-331_hybrid.conf

- The command: sudo prime-select nvidia
Error: alternatives are not set up properly
Error: nvidia mode can't be enabled

lspci output:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106M [GeForce GTX 770M]
(rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

- the xorg.conf is constantly deleted, which is annoying, I had a nice working
version earlier
- the best kernel option, that used to work was nvidia.modeset=1, I tried
nomodeset and nothing, but none of them help

I'd appreciate some help here, even if it's a revert, I just need to
continue work as quickly as possible.

Thanks,
Best,
Aron
