[Bug 1827961] Re: Lenovo dock MAC Address pass through doesn't work in Ubuntu

2019-12-03 Thread Brainslug
I am traveling and won't be able to connect to my docking station for a
while. Should be back in the office mid January and will report back
then if nobody else is able to confirm that the fix is working.

Thank you!

[Bug 1838547] Re: firmware updates on Lenovo P1 (20ME) not working

2019-08-17 Thread Brainslug
o.k., problem is solved!

I poked around in the BIOS/UEFI settings some more and confirmed that my
system was indeed booted in UEFI mode. However, there is another BIOS
setting in the "Security" section of the BIOS, where "Windows UEFI
Firmware Update" can be enabled and disabled. This setting was set to
"Disabled" - I changed it to "Enabled" and now 'fwupdmgr get-devices'
shows a lot more devices, including my P1 itself:

20MES1WH00 System Firmware
  DeviceId: 71519311a643244a2eaf392fbf17c968ec135dd3
  Guid: a95d69e7-2fa0-4849-9159-75645bc6e153
  Plugin: uefi
  Flags:
internal|updatable|require-ac|supported|registered|needs-reboot
  Version: 0.1.23
  VersionLowest:0.1.23
  Icon: computer
  Created: 2019-08-17

fwupdmgr get-updates now finds the matching firmware packages as
expected.

This bug report can be closed, but maybe it will help other P1 owners to
get fwupd working on their machine.

[Bug 1838547] [NEW] firmware updates on Lenovo P1 (20ME) not working

2019-07-31 Thread Brainslug
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo P1 (20ME) which is supposedly supported by LVFS. There
are new firmware releases available in LVFS for this laptop (in
particular a BIOS update) but fwupd can not install them.

Hier is the link to all available firmware updates for my machine:

https://fwupd.org/lvfs/search?csrf_token=IjcxZjAzMDg3OGMzZTkyYTY2MDY2NDY0MjgwZDA2YzE1ZGY5MzFlYzci.XUG81A.kUfLQE50MUF7i_xHlmC6FqkqU7s=P1

and this is the one for the most recent BIOS update:

https://fwupd.org/lvfs/device/com.lenovo.ThinkPadN2EET.firmware

Here is what I've tried so far:

fwupd get-devices (--show-all-devices)
fwupd refresh
fwupd get-updates
fwupd

Outputs for all these commands are attached.

I've also downloaded the .cab files directly from the Lenovo support
site and tried to install them directly via the 'install' command:

fwupdmgr -v install N2EET41W.cab
fwupdmgr -v install N2EHT26W.cab

but fwupd tells me that no supported devices are found?! It appears that
fwupd does not recognize my laptop correctly? Also attaching smbios and
efibootmgr output.

Thanks much for any help, and please let me know if I can provide any further
details.

Cheers!

Installed and booted your kernel, dmesg attached.

The MAC address of the dock has not changed with the new kernel, still
using the dock's own MAC instead of the laptop's.

Thanks!

Here you go...
Please let me know if you need anything else.

I also talked to Lenovo about this as you suggested but the answer was
that they don't support Linux on that Laptop/Dock and that they can't be
of any help with this problem.

Thank you for your reply and for looking into this issue. I will contact
Lenovo but I won't get my hopes up. Operating the dock w/o MAC
passthrough is luckily not a big deal for me.

[Bug 1827961] [NEW] Lenovo dock MAC Address pass through doesn't work in Ubuntu

2019-05-06 Thread Brainslug
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1579984 the MAC
address pass through does not work with a Lenovo Thunderbolt 3
Workstation Dock.

The dock's network port is recognized and working but it has its own MAC
address even though MAC Address pass through is enabled in the BIOS.

This is the dock in question:

https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech
/Thunderbolt-WS-230W-dock-US/p/40AN0230US

and the laptop is a Lenovo P1. Debug files attached.

Please let me know if further info is required.

Thanks!
