[Bug 561083] [NEW] Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 records corrupt m4a

2010-04-11 Thread Brett Berry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I am using Ubuntu 9.10.
Problem stems from package: gnome-media:
  Installed: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

On Thursday, I used the Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 to record audio from
a mixing board, via my laptop's microphone input. I recorded as CD
Quality .MP3. When I finished recording, the file played very nicely.

The next day I used the same Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 to record audio
from the same mixing board, via the same laptop's microphone input. I
recorded this time as CD Quality AAC, .m4a. When I finished
recording, I tried to play back the file. Unfortunately, I received a
This file contains no playable streams error from Exaile. I then
tried to make a simple recording using my laptop's built in microphone,
using the m4a setting. I received the same error when trying to play
back the file.

It seems that my Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 cannot record a valid m4a
file, when configured to use that setting.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Please let me know if there is any way to fix my seemingly corrupted
file, as it was the only recording from a sound board from this
particular performance.

I am attaching the smaller of the m4a files I tried to create.

Thank you,
-Brett Berry
