I can confirm that this is still an issue in current Intrepid. I misconfigured a CalDAV calendar, and now every time I try to delete it, evolution hangs, showing futex_wait in the System Monitor. It will allow you to subscribe by going through the tree graphically, but not by specifying the newsgroup directly.
