As fat as I understand, it's said that Ubuntu 20.04 uses fwupd 1.3.9-4ubuntu0.1 After closer look it seems that there's a difference between Ubuntu 20.04 and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. In non-LTS version. [Bug 1970198] [NEW] Please update to fwupd 1.5.5 to fix Gnome bug #1117
Public bug reported: Long story here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- software/-/issues/1117#note_1436723 Short story: fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install, using gnome-software for a while and "suddenly" unusable, without any message in the UI. After long hours of searching I finally found this workaround: launching gnome-software setting GNOME_SOFTWARE_PLUGINS_BLOCKLIST=fwupd did the trick. I don't know exactly what the user has done; but for sure no terminal, no system file edition, only UI clics. The fix in fwupd is here: https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/pull/2739/commits and published in 1.5.5 release. What prevents from updating to fwupd 1.5.5 ? [Bug 1878301] Re: Focal regression: poor discoverability for search in Ubuntu Software Center
+1000 Just installed Ubuntu for my mother today, and I learned her yesterday how to install a software. We were both confused (I'm a developer and I'm very confused about this "feature" too) about the fact that the search bar is hidden until we type some text on the keyboard. Today she called me trying to install a software (not listed in the featured softwares in the main page), and she didn't remember how to search for a particular software by name. Last month I installed Ubuntu for friends (30 years old, daly users of Android phone so used to softwares) and same thing: they called me 2 times to ask how to search for a software ? "is it possible to install another software than those that are listed in the main page ?" I've seen in Gnome's issues that Gnome devs thinks that this is a typical Gnome behavior; okay maybe; I hate Nautilus and most of Gnome apps for their "simple designs". But this is definitively not a typical Ubuntu design: when we display the "magical search bar" that appears after pressing super key, we see the search bar, really well highlighted in the center. I really think that software search bar should be obvious to find. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878301 Title: Focal regression: poor discoverability for search in Ubuntu Software Center To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-software/+bug/1878301/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1956150] [NEW] System doesn't power off or restart after full upgrade
Public bug reported: I did a clean install of Lubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on my system and I didn't install any extra software after this install. Everything was working just fine, my system would shutdown and restart normally. This morning, after being prompted to do a full upgrade of the system, I did it. The upgrade was successful and I was asked to restart my pc. After this upgrade, when prompting my system to shutdown or restart, it just won't. If I choose to shutdown, the screen goes blank but fans are still on and so is the power led. To fully power off my system I have to perform a hard reset by holding the power off button. The same thing happens when trying to restart it. Also now i have the new message "Deprecated parameter 'namecase'". by dmesg i got [ 102.774340] mmc1: card e624 removed [ 151.977592] mmc1: cannot verify signal voltage switch [ 152.103194] mmc1: new ultra high speed SDR104 SDXC card at address [ 152.111605] mmcblk1: mmc1: SB128 119 GiB [ 152.131962] mmcblk1: p1 [ 157.293946] exfat: Deprecated parameter 'namecase' [ 258.519565] mmc1: card removed [ 321.168230] mmc1: cannot verify signal voltage switch [ 321.293643] mmc1: new ultra high speed SDR104 SDXC card at address [ 321.302028] mmcblk1: mmc1: SB128 119 GiB [ 321.306774] mmcblk1: p1 [ 327.189197] exfat: Deprecated parameter 'namecase' Again, i can "use" the card but, as soon as large data or any data is put inside some directories in the sdxc card the data get corrupted. if i use a sdhc card (8GB) everything works fine and, by dmesg [ 2041.881666] mmc1: new high speed SDHC card at address e624 [ 2041.887000] mmcblk1: mmc1:e624 SU08G 7.40 GiB [ 2041.920884] mmcblk1: p1 [ 2048.181250] exfat: Deprecated parameter 'namecase' should i use apport-collect with that kernel too? thanks in advance -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909840 Title: SDXC card reader not working properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1909840/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly
Sorry for taking so much time to answer. I did uninstall Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 and installed Xubuntu 20.04 so i do not even use the exact same system anymore. Unfortunately i cannot test my 128GB sdxc card now, and i do not know how to answer your question properly. All i can say for now is that i do not see anything with fuse in the name when i run lsmod. I think the module that is working now (with 8gb card exFAT) is rtsx_pci or sdhci, but i am not sure anyway. I can send any new info after getting my sdxc. again, i do not even know how to answer your question properly, any help would be appreciated. by lsmod Module Size Used by ccm20480 3 rfcomm 81920 16 cmac 16384 2 algif_hash 16384 1 algif_skcipher 16384 1 af_alg 24576 6 algif_hash,algif_skcipher bnep 24576 2 nls_iso8859_1 16384 1 snd_sof_pci20480 0 snd_sof_intel_hda_common69632 1 snd_sof_pci snd_soc_hdac_hda 24576 1 snd_sof_intel_hda_common snd_sof_intel_hda 20480 1 snd_sof_intel_hda_common snd_sof_intel_byt 20480 1 snd_sof_pci snd_sof_intel_ipc 20480 1 snd_sof_intel_byt snd_sof 106496 4 snd_sof_pci,snd_sof_intel_hda_common,snd_sof_intel_byt,snd_sof_intel_ipc snd_sof_xtensa_dsp 16384 1 snd_sof_pci snd_hda_ext_core 28672 3 snd_sof_intel_hda_common,snd_soc_hdac_hda,snd_sof_intel_hda snd_soc_acpi_intel_match32768 2 snd_sof_pci,snd_sof_intel_hda_common snd_soc_acpi 16384 2 snd_sof_pci,snd_soc_acpi_intel_match snd_soc_core 245760 3 snd_sof,snd_sof_intel_hda_common,snd_soc_hdac_hda snd_compress 24576 1 snd_soc_core ac97_bus 16384 1 snd_soc_core snd_pcm_dmaengine 16384 1 snd_soc_core snd_hda_codec_hdmi 61440 1 snd_hda_codec_realtek 126976 1 snd_hda_codec_generic81920 1 snd_hda_codec_realtek ledtrig_audio 16384 3 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_sof snd_hda_intel 53248 3 snd_intel_dspcfg 24576 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_sof_pci,snd_sof_intel_hda_common snd_hda_codec 135168 5 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_soc_hdac_hda snd_hda_core 90112 9 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_ext_core,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_sof_intel_hda_common,snd_soc_hdac_hda,snd_sof_intel_hda snd_hwdep 20480 1 snd_hda_codec mei_hdcp 24576 0 intel_rapl_msr 20480 0 snd_pcm 106496 8 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_sof,snd_sof_intel_hda_common,snd_soc_core,snd_hda_core,snd_pcm_dmaengine intel_telemetry_pltdrv20480 0 intel_punit_ipc16384 1 intel_telemetry_pltdrv intel_telemetry_core16384 1 intel_telemetry_pltdrv intel_pmc_ipc 20480 1 intel_telemetry_pltdrv x86_pkg_temp_thermal20480 0 intel_powerclamp 20480 0 snd_seq_midi 20480 0 coretemp 20480 0 kvm_intel 282624 0 snd_seq_midi_event 16384 1 snd_seq_midi kvm 663552 1 kvm_intel crct10dif_pclmul 16384 1 ghash_clmulni_intel16384 0 snd_rawmidi36864 1 snd_seq_midi aesni_intel 372736 5 uvcvideo 98304 0 crypto_simd16384 1 aesni_intel cryptd 24576 3 crypto_simd,ghash_clmulni_intel videobuf2_vmalloc 20480 1 uvcvideo videobuf2_memops 20480 1 videobuf2_vmalloc videobuf2_v4l2 24576 1 uvcvideo glue_helper16384 1 aesni_intel rapl 20480 0 videobuf2_common 49152 2 videobuf2_v4l2,uvcvideo intel_cstate 20480 0 snd_seq69632 2 snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event videodev 225280 3 videobuf2_v4l2,uvcvideo,videobuf2_common mc 53248 4 videodev,videobuf2_v4l2,uvcvideo,videobuf2_common joydev 24576 0 input_leds 16384 0 snd_seq_device 16384 3 snd_seq,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi btusb 57344 0 btrtl 24576 1 btusb snd_timer 36864 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm iwlmvm380928 0 serio_raw 20480 0 btbcm 16384 1 btusb mac80211 843776 1 iwlmvm libarc416384 1 mac80211 btintel24576 1 btusb i915 1990656 5 bluetooth 548864 41 btrtl,btintel,btbcm,bnep,btusb,rfcomm ecdh_generic 16384 1 bluetooth ecc28672 1 ecdh_generic iwlwifi 331776 1 iwlmvm snd90112 19 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_timer,snd_compress,snd_soc_core,snd_pcm,snd_rawmidi hid_multitouch 28672 0 rtsx_pci_ms24576 0 drm_kms_helper184
[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly
Tested my 8GB Micro SDHC recently formatted with exFAT. All files transfered flawlessly, even with the Partition Type NTFS/exFAT/HPFS and exFAT content description in gnome-disks, and, most important (at least i think so), no "cannot verify signal voltage switch" in dmesg. By dmesg i got: [ 101.565119] mmc1: new high speed SDHC card at address e624 [ 101.570865] mmcblk1: mmc1:e624 SU08G 7.40 GiB [ 101.587376] mmcblk1: p1 but the problem persists with the SDXC card reader. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909840 Title: SDXC card reader not working properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1909840/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly
it uses exFAT and in gnome-disks the Partition Type is NTFS/exFAT/HPFS and the contents are exFAT. i found weird that partition type shows NTFS/exFAT/HPFS and the contents exFAT. But who knows? (i am not very proficient in computing). obs: i did format it as exFAT in windows 10 in another machine with default setting in allocation unit size. [Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly
the information given above was obtained without the sdxc in the card reader, the next ones were obtained with the sdxc in the card reader. ** Description changed: I have tried to use a 8GB flash and it works without any flaw in ubuntu 20.04, kernel 5.4.0-58-generic (machine: Ideapad 130s-11IGM), but i need to use my 128GB SDXC card and it only works in my windows system in the same machine. I am "able" to copy files to it in ubuntu (to the 128GB SDXC card) but most of the copies appear as corrupted files, which does not happen in windows. The 8GB card had been tested by f3 in ubuntu and h2testw in windows, and the SDXC had been tested by h2testw in windows (testing the SDXC with f3 in ubuntu causes input/output error), so i assume there are no problems in the sd cards. [Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have tried to use a 8GB flash and it works without any flaw in ubuntu 20.04, kernel 5.4.0-58-generic (machine: Ideapad 130s-11IGM), but i need to use my 128GB SDXC card and it only works in my windows system in the same machine. I generated them many months ago, using these commands: sudo localedef -i fa_IR -f UTF-8 fa_IR sudo localedef -i fr_FR -f ISO-8859-1 fr_FR.ISO-8859-1 sudo localedef -i fr_FR -f UTF-8 fr_FR.UTF-8 sudo localedef -i ja_JP -f EUC-JP ja_JP.EUC-JP sudo localedef -i tr_TR -f UTF-8 tr_TR.UTF-8 sudo localedef -i zh_CN -f GB18030 zh_CN.GB18030 Today, I found that these locales are missing. $ ls -l /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4570528 Jul 7 06:57 /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive The file /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive was modified yesterday, outside of office hours. Apparently it has replaced the /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive file with a new copy, that contains only the default locales (English and German locales, since German is my preferred language). It would be better if the 'locales' package, during an upgrade, would 1. take the list of installed locales (command 'locale -a'), 2. after deleting the /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive file, regenerate each such locale, using a command 'localedef -i LOCNAME -f ENCODING LOCNAME.ENCODING'. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886843 Title: unattended upgrade deleted my custom locales To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1886843/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders
I did some testing with these new packages : I have activated focal-proposed repository on two new virtual machines. One is Ubuntu 20.04 and the other LUbuntu 20.04. On both VM, I upgraded all packages and now samba-common, samba-libs, libwbclient0:amd64 and libsmbclient:amd64 have version 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2 I added "client min protocol = NT1" to /etc/samba/smb.conf in [global] section to access my NAS which ONLY support SMB v1. Now files are correctly displayed as files when I browse this NAS with Nautilus on Ubuntu 20.04 and they are also correctly displayed as files with Dolphin and PCManFM-Qt on LUbuntu 20.04. And now I can watch the video files stored on this NAS with VLC.
