[Bug 1970198] Re: Please update to fwupd 1.5.5 to fix Gnome bug #1117

2022-04-26 Thread Bruno Duyé
> Ubuntu 20.04 has 1.7.5-3, which should have those fixes now IIRC.

I'm sorry, I looked here to know the version:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/fwupd. As fat as I understand, it's said that
Ubuntu 20.04 uses fwupd 1.3.9-4ubuntu0.1
After closer look it seems that there's a difference between Ubuntu 20.04 and
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. In non-LTS version.

Anyway, I done the updates and fwupd is now 1.7.5-3

Sorry !

[Bug 1970198] [NEW] Please update to fwupd 1.5.5 to fix Gnome bug #1117

2022-04-25 Thread Bruno Duyé
Public bug reported:

Long story here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
software/-/issues/1117#note_1436723

Short story: fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install, using gnome-software for a while and
"suddenly" unusable, without any message in the UI. After long hours of
searching I finally found this workaround: launching gnome-software setting
GNOME_SOFTWARE_PLUGINS_BLOCKLIST=fwupd did the trick.
I don't know exactly what the user has done; but for sure no terminal, no
system file edition, only UI clics.

The fix in fwupd is here:
https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/pull/2739/commits and published in 1.5.5
release.

What prevents from updating to fwupd 1.5.5 ?

Thanks

[Bug 1878301] Re: Focal regression: poor discoverability for search in Ubuntu Software Center

2022-02-15 Thread Bruno Duyé
+1000

Just installed Ubuntu for my mother today, and I learned her yesterday
how to install a software. We were both confused (I'm a developer and
I'm very confused about this "feature" too) about the fact that the
search bar is hidden until we type some text on the keyboard.

Today she called me trying to install a software (not listed in the
featured softwares in the main page), and she didn't remember how to
search for a particular software by name.

Last month I installed Ubuntu for friends (30 years old, daly users of
Android phone so used to softwares) and same thing: they called me 2
times to ask how to search for a software ? "is it possible to install
another software than those that are listed in the main page ?"

I've seen in Gnome's issues that Gnome devs thinks that this is a
typical Gnome behavior; okay maybe; I hate Nautilus and most of Gnome
apps for their "simple designs". But this is definitively not a typical
Ubuntu design: when we display the "magical search bar" that appears
after pressing super key, we see the search bar, really well highlighted
in the center. I really think that software search bar should be obvious
to find.

[Bug 1956150] [NEW] System doesn't power off or restart after full upgrade

2022-01-01 Thread Raffaele Bruno
Public bug reported:

I did a clean install of Lubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on my system and I didn't
install any extra software after this install. Everything was working
just fine, my system would shutdown and restart normally. This morning,
after being prompted to do a full upgrade of the system, I did it. The
upgrade was successful and I was asked to restart my pc. After this
upgrade, when prompting my system to shutdown or restart, it just won't.
If I choose to shutdown, the screen goes blank but fans are still on and
so is the power led. To fully power off my system I have to perform a
hard reset by holding the power off button. The same thing happens when
trying to restart it.

[Bug 1953618] [NEW] External links in PDFs do not open correctly in Falkon

2021-12-08 Thread Bruno Pitrus
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch)
Release:22.04

falkon version 3.1.0+dfsg1-11
libqt5webengine5 version 5.15.7+dfsg-2

Steps to reproduce:
Open any PDF file with external links from the internet in Falkon browser.
Try to click on a link with left or middle click.

What should happen:
Clicking left navigates to target, changing the address bar.
Clicking middle opens the target in a new tab.

What happens:
Clicking left replaces the PDF with the target, but the address bar does not
change.
Clicking middle crashes the browser with a useless stack trace, suggesting
memory corruption.

Installing the package `phonon4qt5-backend-vlc` fixed the crash for me.
It should be in Elisa dependencies.

[Bug 1939160] Re: [HP Probook 450 G6] Laptop Monitor Turns off During Startup, but older kernel versions work (updated system log)

2021-08-09 Thread Bruno
I did stop gdm3 and created Xorg.log (via ssh and startx) for 5.8.0-55 (which
is fine) and 5.8.0-63 (where the internal display is black).
EDID & modelines do look the same, input/event are numbered differently,
SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (*-63) vs PS/2 Generic Mouse (*-55)

[Bug 1939160] Re: [HP Probook 450 G6] Laptop Monitor Turns off During Startup, but older kernel versions work (updated system log)

2021-08-09 Thread Bruno
It looks like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
hwe-5.8/+bug/1934647 is about the same. Here it's Intel UHD Graphics 620
- there it's about nvidia.

5.8.0-55 is fine
5.8.0-63 is affected
5.11.0-25 is affected

I did
  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot1.txt
  journalctl -b-2 > prevboot2.txt
  journalctl -b-3 > prevboot3.txt
  journalctl -b-4 > prevboot4.txt
  journalctl -b-5 > prevboot5.txt

Using 5.8.0-63 (or 5.11.0-25) the internal display is black - but the
system is running "normal" (ssh, HDMI display)

[Bug 1936821] [NEW] PDF viewer does not work on current ubuntu hirsute (grey screen)

2021-07-19 Thread Bruno Pitrus
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

Install current kubuntu hirsute amd64
Update using kubuntu backports

Install falkon browser

Try to open PDF in falkon

Expected: PDF opens
What happened: blank grey screen

I managed to fix it by updating package qml-module-qtwebengine and all
its dependencies to the version contained in the impish repository.

Please push Qtwebengine 5.15.5 to ubuntu hirsute, or at least backport
the PDF fix.

[Bug 1934888] [NEW] Resuming from sleep garbles display configuration

2021-07-07 Thread Bruno Hivert
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm using a thinkpad as a workstation, with a dual-display configuration: the
laptop screen and a big external screen.
The screen is directly connected to the laptop hdmi port, because using it
through the thunderbolt port is hit-and-miss, but this is another story.

When I wake my system on after a night sleep, more often than not - it's
not systematic -, my primary screen - the bigger external Dell monitor -
is activated alone, and the laptop screen stays completely black.

I have to go to system settings -> Display to activate it again.

thanks for your support

/Bruno Hivert

I noticed that when using mutt through some pseudo-terminal (like tmux),
the bug takes longer to happen.

[Bug 1923654] [NEW] gnome-terminal-server crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message_expr()

2021-04-13 Thread bruno dias da silva
Public bug reported:

When resizing a gnome-terminal window while mutt (email client) is open when

[Bug 1915579] Re: version 2.03.11-2ubuntu1 breaks initramfs

2021-03-02 Thread Bruno Redondi
The new version of lvm sets wrong file permissions to
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/lvm2
This file should have 755 permission but after the upgrade it has 644.
If you "sudo chmod 755 /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/lvm2 && sudo
update-initramfs -u" the system will boot correctly.

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-02-02 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
Installed the mainline kernel 5.11-rc5 and the "cannot verify signal
voltage" persists. Also now i have the new message "Deprecated parameter
'namecase'".

by dmesg i got

[ 102.774340] mmc1: card e624 removed
[ 151.977592] mmc1: cannot verify signal voltage switch
[ 152.103194] mmc1: new ultra high speed SDR104 SDXC card at address
[ 152.111605] mmcblk1: mmc1: SB128 119 GiB

[ 258.519565] mmc1: card removed
[ 321.168230] mmc1: cannot verify signal voltage switch

[ 321.306774] mmcblk1: p1
[ 327.189197] exfat: Deprecated parameter 'namecase'

Again, i can "use" the card but, as soon as large data or any data is
put inside some directories in the sdxc card the data get corrupted.

if i use a sdhc card (8GB) everything works fine and, by dmesg

[ 2041.881666] mmc1: new high speed SDHC card at address e624
[ 2041.887000] mmcblk1: mmc1:e624 SU08G 7.40 GiB
[ 2041.920884] mmcblk1: p1
[ 2048.181250] exfat: Deprecated parameter 'namecase'

should i use apport-collect with that kernel too?

thanks in advance

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-01-30 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
Sorry for taking so much time to answer. I did uninstall Ubuntu Budgie
20.04 and installed Xubuntu 20.04 so i do not even use the exact same
system anymore. Unfortunately i cannot test my 128GB sdxc card now, and
i do not know how to answer your question properly.

All i can say for now is that i do not see anything with fuse in the
name when i run lsmod. I think the module that is working now (with 8gb
card exFAT) is rtsx_pci or sdhci, but i am not sure anyway.

I can send any new info after getting my sdxc. again, i do not even know
how to answer your question properly, any help would be appreciated.

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-01-22 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
Tested my 8GB Micro SDHC recently formatted with exFAT. All files
transfered flawlessly, even with the Partition Type NTFS/exFAT/HPFS and
exFAT content description in gnome-disks, and, most important (at least
i think so), no "cannot verify signal voltage switch" in dmesg. By dmesg
i got:

[ 101.565119] mmc1: new high speed SDHC card at address e624
[ 101.570865] mmcblk1: mmc1:e624 SU08G 7.40 GiB
[ 101.587376] mmcblk1: p1

but the problem persists with the SDXC card reader.

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-01-22 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
it uses exFAT and in gnome-disks the Partition Type is NTFS/exFAT/HPFS
and the contents are exFAT. i found weird that partition type shows
NTFS/exFAT/HPFS and the contents exFAT. But who knows? (i am not very
proficient in computing).

obs: i did format it as exFAT in windows 10 in another machine with
default setting in allocation unit size. I was able to use it normally
with any windows machine i tested.

[Bug 1911050] Re: AttributeError: 'array.array' object has no attribute 'tostring'

2021-01-15 Thread Bruno Redondi
See https://docs.python.org/3.9/whatsnew/3.9.html#removed

"array.array: tostring() and fromstring() methods have been removed.
They were aliases to tobytes() and frombytes(), deprecated since Python
3.2."

editing /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/landscape/lib/network.py and replacing
"res = status_cmd.tostring()" with "res = status_cmd.tobytes()" solves the
problem

[Bug 1909840] Re: SDXC card reader not working properly

2021-01-03 Thread Bruno Luis dos Santos Costa
the information given above was obtained without the sdxc in the card
reader, the next ones were obtained with the sdxc in the card reader.

** Description changed:

I have tried to use a 8GB flash and it works without any flaw in ubuntu
  20.04, kernel 5.4.0-58-generic (machine: Ideapad 130s-11IGM), but i need
to use my 128GB SDXC card and it only works in my windows system in the
same machine. I am "able" to copy files to it in ubuntu (to the 128GB
SDXC card) but most of the copies appear as corrupted files, which does
not happen in windows. The 8GB card had been tested by f3 in ubuntu and
h2testw in windows, and the SDXC had been tested by h2testw in windows
(testing the SDXC with f3 in ubuntu causes input/output error), so i
assume there are no problems in the sd cards.

I think that this problem is related to (or almost the same as)

  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202473

[Bug 1895473] Re: svg wallpaper doesn't get stretched

Hi,

thank you for your reply, I am using xubuntu.

This happened:

...should be opening in your browser. Use your browser to authorize
this program to access Launchpad on your behalf.

And apt can't find such a package either. So I'm assuming that didn't
help.

Anything else I can try?

[Bug 1895473] [NEW] svg wallpaper doesn't get stretched

2020-09-13 Thread Bruno Maximilian Voss
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I just upgraded from 19.10 to 20.04 and my svg wallpaper doesn't stretch
to fill the screen anymore. Other options like tiling still work.
(Obviously it did work before the upgrade.)

I don't know exactly where the bug is, but I suppose it has to be in the
ubuntu or xubuntu -desktop or -settings packages. It's the right click
context menu "Desktop Settings" option.

If this is the wrong package I apologize, please redirect it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1886843] Re: unattended upgrade deleted my custom locales

Thanks for the hint. That should work for next time.
Although I would have found it nicer if the distro had not created an
additional layer on top of 'localedef'.

[Bug 1886843] [NEW] unattended upgrade deleted my custom locales

2020-07-08 Thread Bruno Haible
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial).
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

On my system, I need a couple of locales that are not installed by
default: fa_IR, fr_FR.ISO-8859-1, fr_FR.UTF-8, ja_JP.EUC-JP,
tr_TR.UTF-8, zh_CN.GB18030. I generated them many months ago, using
these commands:

sudo localedef -i fa_IR -f UTF-8 fa_IR
sudo localedef -i fr_FR -f ISO-8859-1 fr_FR.ISO-8859-1
sudo localedef -i fr_FR -f UTF-8 fr_FR.UTF-8
sudo localedef -i ja_JP -f EUC-JP ja_JP.EUC-JP
sudo localedef -i tr_TR -f UTF-8 tr_TR.UTF-8
sudo localedef -i zh_CN -f GB18030 zh_CN.GB18030

Today, I found that these locales are missing.

$ ls -l /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4570528 Jul 7 06:57 /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive

The file /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive was modified yesterday, outside
of office hours.

The file /var/log/apt/history.log shows that there was an unattended
upgrade of the locale database at this time:

Start-Date: 2020-07-07 06:57:13
Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade
Upgrade: libc6-dev-x32:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu11, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2),
libnss3-nssdb:amd64 (2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.11, 2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.12),
libc6-dev-i386:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu11, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libc6-dbg:amd64
(2.23-0ubuntu11, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libc6-dev:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu11,

libc6:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu11, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libc6:i386 (2.23-0ubuntu11,
2.23-0ubuntu11.2), linux-base:amd64 (4.5ubuntu1.1~16.04.1,
4.5ubuntu1.2~16.04.1), locales:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu10, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2),
libc-bin:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu10, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libc6-x32:amd64
(2.23-0ubuntu11, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libc6-i386:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu11,
2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libopenexr22:amd64 (2.2.0-10ubuntu2.2, 2.2.0-10ubuntu2.3),
libc-dev-bin:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu11, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), multiarch-support:amd64
(2.23-0ubuntu10, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2), libnss3:amd64 (2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.11,
2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.12), glibc-doc:amd64 (2.23-0ubuntu10, 2.23-0ubuntu11.2)
End-Date: 2020-07-07 06:57:58

As you can see, the 'locales' packages was upgraded.

Apparently it has replaced the /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive file with
a new copy, that contains only the default locales (English and German
locales, since German is my preferred language).

It would be better if the 'locales' package, during an upgrade, would
1. take the list of installed locales (command 'locale -a'),
2. after deleting the /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive file, regenerate each such
locale, using a command 'localedef -i LOCNAME -f ENCODING LOCNAME.ENCODING'.

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders

2020-05-13 Thread Bruno F
I did some testing with these new packages : I have activated focal-proposed
repository on two new virtual machines. One is Ubuntu 20.04 and the other
LUbuntu 20.04.
On both VM, I upgraded all packages and now samba-common, samba-libs,
libwbclient0:amd64 and libsmbclient:amd64 have version 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2

I added "client min protocol = NT1" to /etc/samba/smb.conf in [global]
section to access my NAS which ONLY support SMB v1.

Now files are correctly displayed as files when I browse this NAS with Nautilus
on Ubuntu 20.04
and they are also correctly displayed as files with Dolphin and PCManFM-Qt on
LUbuntu 20.04.
And now I can watch the video files stored on this NAS with VLC.

With the old package version 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1, files were
displayed as folder, see my comment #2

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders

2020-05-01 Thread Bruno F
Sergio,

Thank for your fix !

After adding your ppa, I did the same test as the one I described in comment #2.
Now files are correctly displayed as files when I browse my SMBv1 NAS with
Dolphin or PCManFM-Qt.

[Bug 1872476] Re: Shared files are shown as folders

2020-04-27 Thread Bruno F
Jose Manuel,
I tried with the samba 4.11.7 package from your PPA and the bug still occurs
with "Files"

Andreas,
I have no shell access on the NAS so I am unable to check smbstatus. However I
can confirm you that it always uses SMB1. This NAS does not support SMB2/3.

I could capture SMB traffic with Wireshark. Would it help you ?
