[Bug 1368392] [NEW] NV10, NV20 Bad / Missing Graphics and Icons
Public bug reported: I recently installed Lubuntu 14.04 LTS. I noticed that on some screens and in some applications, there were missing graphics and icons. For example in the Files application, some of the folder icons would be visible and others were not. I did a search for a related bug/issue and come across a bug filed here (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51477). Turning off anti- aliasing under Customize Look and FeelFont resolves the issue of the missing icons, but makes the text harder to read. For reference, I have an nVidia GeForce3 Ti 200 (NV20) graphics card. The bug was filed two years ago, but was just recently resolved. The change was incorporated into Nouveau 1.0.11 that was recently released. Is it possible to incorporate this patch/fix into the 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2 that is installed in 14.04 LTS Thanks in advance for any help or guidance you can provide. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368392 Title: NV10, NV20 Bad / Missing Graphics and Icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1368392/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1035590] Re: Kernel update on 10 Aug 2012 affects nm-applet signal strength
I can confirm that on my Thinkpad T42 (Intel 2200BG) I am also still able to connect to the wifi wireless network even with the signal strength applet showing dimmed out (zero strength). I noticed in the NM applet drop down, my wireless network does not show as connected, even when I am connected. The wireless network to which I am connected shows in the available networks list along with other networks to which I am not connected. Not sure if this is related to the zero signal strength issue, or a different issue. [Bug 931860] Re: Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing SSP Broken
The fix to this bug was included in the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS release. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was based on Ubuntu Kernel 3.2.0-23.36 which maps to Mainline Kernel v3.2.14. Officially the fix was included in Mainline Kernel v3.2.15, but the fix was backported to Ubuntu 3.2.0-23.36 prior to the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS release (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/981162 Bluetooth: Fix l2cap conn failures for ssp devices). The fix was officially included in Mainline Kernel v3.2.15 which maps to Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.38. For Ubuntu 11.10, the fix was included in Ubuntu Kernel 3.0.0-20.34 which maps to Mainline Kernel v3.0.30. The fix was officially included in Mainline Kernel v3.0.28, but this version was not specifically mapped to an Ubuntu Kernel version. I would expect, but have not verified, that the fix has also been backported to the kernels for other Ubuntu releases. [Bug 930447] Re: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel
Don't lose hope. I'm the one that filed the initial bug report. I was able to boot from a Live CD image on the hard drive using Grub 2 (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1549847highlight=boot+grub+iso) and the final pae flavor ISO saved to the hard drive. I have no idea why the pae version ISO boots from the hard drive using Grub, but doesn't boot from a USB stick. Anyone else like to explain that I'd be interested in knowing. Today I tried a clean install using the mini.iso method (http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot /non-pae/). Just downloaded and burned the mini.iso (non-pae flavor) to a CD, booted using the CD and clicked on Install from the menu. Just make sure you have the PC is connected to an internet connection so that the packages can be downloaded. There are quite a few questions to answer, but nothing that wasn't that straightforward. It took close to an hour by the time all the packages were downloaded and installed. But if you figure the time to download the CD image ISO, burn time to a disk, and install time from the disk, it's not that much different overall. I ended up with a fully functional 12.04 generic non-pae install on my Thinkpad T42. While it is interesting that there is a method to install a non-pae Precise distro (aka Lubuntu and Xubuntu), this bug was filed to report the fact that it is not possible to install Ubuntu 12.04. [Bug 930447] Re: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel
David, thanks for taking the initiative to build the Live CD. It proves the old adage, necessity is the mother of invention. I took a look at the LiveCD Customization page and it looked a little daunting to me. If you were able to follow it without prior experience and were able to get it to work, imagine what someone who had experience in building it could achieve. I guess it begs the question, how much of an inconvenience would it be for the Ubuntu team to build two versions of the i386 CD (pae and non- pae), and have both available for download from the Ubuntu daily build download page. Is it really that difficult, or does it really create that much of an extra burden to support? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930447 Title: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/930447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 930447] Re: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel
So I guess we have a definition of what support means for non-PAE kernel. It sounds like it means that you are on your own for completing a fresh install of 12.04 from the image file on the download page. New users will be totally lost as they'll likely never figure out that they have to somehow find the 11.10 image, install that, then perform an upgrade to 12.04. Or somehow find the non-PAE mini.iso and build a system from that. Just disappointing as it doesn't live up to the easy to install system of the people mission.
[Bug 931860] [NEW] Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing SSP Broken
Public bug reported: Since installing Ubuntu 11.10 (with Linux 3.0), Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) is broken and will not allow my SSP headset (Samsung HM1000, EDR + 2.1) to reconnect after initial pairing and disconnect. I am able to pair and connect at first. Before I diconnect, everything works as expected. But after disconnecting, I am no longer able to re-connect the headset. I have to un-pair then re-pair the device to connect again to get it working. After re-pairing the headset it stays connected until I disconnect. Then again after disconnecting, I am again not able to connect. I have been using the same BT usb dongle and BT headset in Ubuntu 10.10, 11.04, and 11.10. Everything worked fine in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04, which I think were based on Linux Kernel 2.6.35 and 2.6.38 respectively. In those versions, I was able to pair and connect / disconnect / connect without issue. I posted an email on the Bluez developer mailing list and it seems that there is a known issue in the way SSP pairing is working (http://marc.info/?l=linux-bluetoothm=132914064106062w=2) in Ubuntu 11.10. It seems there is a patch that has been released to correct the issue: (http://marc.info/?l=linux-bluetoothm=131292182215271w=2), and a recommendation to incorporate the fix in stable releases (http://marc.info/?l=linux-bluetoothm=132817560218886w=2). I am able to work around the issue by running the command: sudo hciconfig hci0 sspmode 0 to disable sspmode to default back to legacy connection. However, after rebooting, I again have to disable sspmode in order to connect the headset. Seems like this is a very basic use case that left uncorrected can result in very poor user experience. ** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/931860 Title: Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing SSP Broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/931860/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 930447] Re: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel
I thought I would add some additional context to the issue. In my day job, I work for a US company with near $8B in annual revenue. We probably still have hundreds of Thinkpads still in the field. While they may be close to end of life for us, they are likely to become beginning of life for others. Not everyone can afford to replace hardware that still has plenty of useful life. The main reason I switched to Ubuntu in the first place was to improve the performance (compared to WinXP Pro) on the same hardware. I have not been disappointed, until now. If one of the goals of 12.04 is to establish a long-term stable platform for large corporations to adopt Ubuntu, it would seem like a smart idea not to alienate those organizations with large numbers of Pentium M laptops still in the field.
[Bug 897786] Re: Kernel is dropping non-PAE flavour
I just posted another comment on the Pentium M specific topic. Rather than repeat it, here is the link: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux- meta/+question/187166. If PAE runs on PII 335mhz hardware, it's just a shame that it won't run on Pentium M 1700Mhz 2GB ram hardware. Isn't there anyway to just have two options for i386 users at time of release: the main primary PAE flavor which can be the default on the Ubuntu download page, and a secondary non-PAE image flavor in the cd image directory? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/897786 Title: Kernel is dropping non-PAE flavour To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/897786/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 930447] [NEW] Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop
Public bug reported: I recently downloaded and built a live usb of the latest 12.04 daily build iso for i386 hardware using the following link address: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/precise-desktop-i386.iso. I was not able to boot from the live usb due to the incompatibility of the linux kernel on the 12.04 iso and my Pentium M laptop hardware. The error message I received is as follows: This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU: pae. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for you CPU. I expected that I would be able to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my IBM Thinkpad T42 laptop that has a Pentium M processor, 1700Mhz processor. The root cause of the issue appears to be that the default kernel bundled in the current daily build i386 iso is the generic-pae kernel. It's my understanding that the generic-pae kernel cannot be installed on cpu hardware that does not support pae. I have been using Ubuntu since 10.10. I have been able to install 10.10, 11.04, and 11.10 on my Thinkpad without issue. My understanding of the December Tech Board kernel meeting is that the non-pae kernel will be supported until 12.10. If that's the case, there should be a version of the Ubuntu 12.04 iso available for download that can be loaded on non- pae hardware. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930447 Title: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/930447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 897786] Re: Kernel is dropping non-PAE flavour
Ok, I guess I must just be a simple person, but would it be too difficult to build two separate image files, one with PAE and one with non-PAE kernel? All of the forum posts and developer notes from the recent tech board are confusing. From what I understand, in the December meeting the tech board reversed their recommendation and agreed to support the non-PAE kernel until 12.10. I guess I must just be slow to grasp what's going on. If the decision was to support non-PAE, then why is there currently no way to install a non-PAE version of 12.04. Seems like someone should be able to clear up the confusion. Why say that there is support if you can't do a fresh install of a 12.04 image with a non-PAE kernel? I'm coming from the user side, who is somewhat technical. If I'm confused, then you can bet that the casual user will be more confused. Enough probably to pursue other alternatives. Never having used the mini.iso route to build a system, it sounds like it could be used to build a non-PAE kernel system, but is not the same user experience as installing from a full iso image. Is that correct? The same exact issue happens with me. I am not very technical so I don't know how to troubleshoot the root cause.
