[Bug 1063354] Re: Sudden Read-Only Filesystems
I thought I would say that I too am having the same problem, although am not using SSD. I am using a HDD drive. I am getting the problem on my Ubunto 12.10 partition and on my Mint14 partition. My problems are not happening every day, so it makes it more difficult to be of any help. However,I did get the impression that I would have the problem after using a terminal session and SU. It could be a coincidence, but I thought I would share the information. Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz × 2 OS 32-bit Not sue where to find the details for kernel version. [Bug 637845] Re: [maverick] CPU frequency does not scale up unless all cores are in use
After a bit more digging I discovered something interesting. When idling, the CPU has the full range of frequencies available to it, from min to max. But, when the load ramps up, the BIOS appears to step in and limit the frequency, then ACPI throttling steps in. I used a simple script (attached) to discover this. Starting from an idle, cool CPU the BIOS maximum frequency is at max. A few seconds later, the limit starts to drop. A few seconds after bottoming out, ACPI throttling begins to increase. The full output I get is appended to the (in comments, at the bottom). It is also interesting to note that the CPU fan is always at max, even when the CPU is idling. ** Attachment added: "a simple cpu test" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cpufreqd/+bug/637845/+attachment/1691921/+files/burn.bash -- [maverick] CPU frequency does not scale up unless all cores are in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637845 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Frederik Elwert wrote on 2008-06-19: Evolution is actually correct here: http://deflexion.com/2006/05/imap-way-of-deleting-message No, evolution is not correct. The correct behavior would be to not allow messages to be moved, since IMAP does not support moving messages. If the Evolution devs want to hold to the official IMAP standard, then they ought to hold to it and only provide the user with real IMAP commands. Or stop supporting IMAP altogether. Sadly, I think that is the direction Evolution, and the rest of the world, is headed. The devs must believe that IMAP is an old standard who's day is waining. [Bug 10550] Re: DVDs with restrictive permissions are unreadable for normal user
I see that his bug was originally posted in 2004. I has been almost 4 years and yet there is still not appropriate fix for this problem. It all boils down to this: the Ubuntu/Linux developers need to recognize that file permissions on udf discs are not worth protecting. A disc that is unreadable by Joe's linux box does little more than annoy Joe, and give him one more reason to switch to Windows or MacOS. The data is hardly protected. As we have seen here, even simply mounting the disc as iso9660 can allow some level of access to that "protected" data. The ideal solution to this problem is to, by default, mount this disc using udf and assuming that the owner of each file is the user that mounted the disc (which is probably the case, anyway). This is not a "random" change or disregard of the permissions; it is in fact "systematic." Those users who wish to protect the permissions, the obviously more knowledgeable ones who care about the integrity of the udf metadata, ought to be able to manually remount the disc using the current (more restrictive) udf file system. Of course this is probably not as simple as editing a line in fstab. Unfortunately, I lack the ability to make this happen. Perhaps someone can tell me how much work I am proposing? -- DVDs with restrictive permissions are unreadable for normal user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/10550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
